Spotty, which is it? Isn't it under warranty? I've had my pump replaced when it broke before, Medtronic just couriered a new one to me and I sent them the broken one once I'd got all set up.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/12/2015 13:55

It's Roche I thought about calling them but it's working ok so I'll see if it gets any worse. It's an accu-chek insight. I love it.

RueDeWakening · 17/12/2015 20:01

Give them a call - IME they send out a replacement pretty quickly, and you don't want to be left over Christmas with a bust pump, do you?

In fact, do Roche do the spare pump for holidays? You could always call and claim you're going away for a couple of weeks and could you have a replacement to take with you in case? Might be a Medtronic-specific thing, I'm not sure, but it's really handy! Can't find the UK info about it, but the US version is here.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/12/2015 20:07

I don't think they do. Tbh it would be usable without the screen but I will email them a photo of it and see what they say. Hypoing all day today. Meh.

paddyclampitt · 17/12/2015 23:31

I've been a bit up and down today too!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/12/2015 16:35

Rue does your pump have a temporary basal rate and do you use it?

RueDeWakening · 19/12/2015 20:46

Yes, it's fab.

I use it:
If I'm ill - run a higher rate for 24 hours (the max I can set), rinse and repeat.
If I'm exercising never happens - run it lower for 2 hours post-exercise.
If I'm slightly hypo - an alternative to munching wine gums :o I run a 10% basal for an hour or so.
If I'm on - for some reason this buggers up my sugars, so I have run temp basals for days at a time while I figure out an alternative - my old pump had Basal A which I could just switch to for the 2WW, then flip back if/when I came on. I'm on the pill these days so don't use this one any more.

When I had steroids after my treatment for TTTS with DS1 I ran a temp basal at 250% for about a week Shock, sugars were still running high so I hate to think what it would've been without it!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/12/2015 20:55

Thanks. I am still playing with but so far I've been doing 120% when I'm at work (otherwise I have to give bolus for each of the five coffees I have) and have upped it when I've been ill. I should have reduced it yesterday as I walked a good ten miles around London but I wasn't sure how much to reduce it by. It's very clever though I'm so pleased with it.

RueDeWakening · 21/12/2015 08:27

Ha, I'd give that a like if I could Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 21/12/2015 11:39

I emailed that photo to Roche and they said they want to send me a new one asap! I assume they'll fix this one and reuse? Seems such a waste otherwise.

SpottyTeacakes · 24/12/2015 07:49

Got my new pump Smile

paddyclampitt · 30/12/2015 00:10

I'm getting the tubeless one :)

MrsCampbellBlack · 31/12/2015 19:00

Hi everyone and happy new year albeit slightly early!

Have so loved this break from school/work. Also realised that I just don't trust school at all with regards to DS1 - had another incident at end of term when a teacher refused to let DS have any of the sweets she was handing out even though he said he would inject. Honestly - it is so frustrating - one more thing and I will be seeing the headmaster. You wouldn't think there are 2 other/older children at the school with type one too.

On another point - have noticed that DS' levels are rising through the day despite careful carb counting - am guessing his ratios need re-doing as he has grown a lot in the last 10 months. Thankfully we have clinic soon.

Hope you're all doing well and thank you for your advice/support in 2015.

RueDeWakening · 31/12/2015 23:45

Happy New Year all.

I have one resolution for 2016: do more blood tests. I've been slacking too much and need to get back on the wagon. Please feel free to nag me about this!

How's everyone managed over Christmas? I thought I was having a nightmare, seemed to be continually having to correct, but assumed I was just miscalculating the excessive number of mince pies etc I'd been eating. Not so, my cannula was kinked. D'oh!

paddyclampitt · 02/01/2016 00:52

MrsCampbell that is awful. I didn't have teachers doing that to me back in the 80s / 90s when sweets really were banned!!!!! I'd be having words as that's neither normal nor right!

Rue despite all the wine I've been drinking and the festivities, my levels have been better than when I'm at work - I think it must be the lack of stress!

SpottyTeacakes · 07/01/2016 20:47

MrsCB I would be really annoyed too! Your ds is old enough to sort it himself too isn't it?

Rue I've been a bit rubbish at testing too, have been doing before meals but not checking after. Have also eaten lots of chocolate mmm

My cholesterol is high anyone else have problems? It's 4.4 but I'm only 28. I don't think I eat that badly.

RueDeWakening · 12/01/2016 18:35

Argh, just realised I have pump clinic on Friday and haven't had my bloods done. Will do them first thing tomorrow, any idea how long HbA1c results take to ping through? Will be in the same hospital so it's just till the result goes on the system.

SpottyTeacakes · 12/01/2016 18:38

Tricky rue. At hour hospital normal bloods would be in same day but for some reason they don't do hba1c's every day. If you go tomorrow morning you should be fine though.

I've got consultant appt tomorrow and have got to write out all my readings as I still haven't worked out how to upload them to my computer Confused

RueDeWakening · 12/01/2016 22:03

No, I haven't got my connect thingy to work either (not that I've tried very hard). Perhaps that could be tomorrow's other project. I could even email it to the DSN, she'd keel over in shock if I did :o

Has anyone else been offered this new contour link upgrade meter (assuming you use a contour link at the mo)? Filled the form in before Christmas, but no sign of it yet - just wondering how long to wait before I query non-appearance.

SpottyTeacakes · 13/01/2016 09:55

Having a day of hypos apparently. Definitely related to my period.

jennykay · 13/01/2016 11:49

I have Diabetes I. What do you think about such diabetick socks like those from www.brightlifedirect.com/BRAND-Jobst.asp website? They say that such things help a lot with the problem, and I really wonder if they will help me

RueDeWakening · 13/01/2016 13:20

What on earth are diabetic socks? What problem are they meant to help with? Pretty sure they won't kick my pancreas into working again, no matter how hard I try :o

Sorry, I don't know anything about them! I would ask your HCP whether they are likely to help you.

SpottyTeacakes · 13/01/2016 13:32

they help circulation don't they?

Well I have put on a stone in six months Blush my bp was 90/60 though and he's happy to go another six months before seeing me

SpottyTeacakes · 14/01/2016 18:44

My gp kept saying she couldn't understand how I got a pump and was amazed that I got one but that it was obviously a good thing but still didn't get how I managed it.
