Hi Scone, good to hear how well your DS is coping. DD did really well with the injections for the first couple of weeks but then started to find them extremely painful, which was the main reason she wanted a pump.

I have to say that, as great as the pump and sensor are for managing her diabetes, it also means there are so many more things to go wrong (her last sensor failed after only a couple of days and we've just had to change the infusion set for her pump for the second time in two days as the tube was blocked for some reason).

Our consultant said that lots of children with diabetes are misdiagnosed by GPs and that it often takes a long time for the correct diagnosis to be made. We were lucky in that our paediatrician did a blood test straight away, detected high blood sugar levels and sent us to hospital there and then - although we'd had to wait a whole week for an appointment (sick children are normally seen on the same day, but the receptionist didn't seem to take it particularly seriously despite obviously suspecting diabetes).

Hi everyone I haven't checked in here for a while. Pump is going well never had a tube blockage though? I haven't git sensors as not available on nhs. Need an up to date hba1c keep waking up high and I know the only way to fix it is to do some overnight two hourly testing Sad

paddyclampitt · 15/11/2015 23:43

Hi how is everyone doing?

Guess what I might be getting, Spotty? :) :) :)

SpottyTeacakes · 16/11/2015 06:20

Really?? How exciting!! Is this since you moved hospitals?

paddyclampitt · 17/11/2015 19:16

Yes! What kind of pump is it you have, Spotty ?

SpottyTeacakes · 17/11/2015 19:18

Yay!!! I'm so pleased for you! How long until you get it? I've got an accu-check insight and it's awesome Smile

I will tell you now for the first week I felt so out of control and was worried that I had made the wrong decision but I soon calmed down Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 24/11/2015 05:51

I'm ill with a chest and ear infection. Have upped my basal by 50% which seems to be doing the trick.

paddyclampitt · 25/11/2015 22:46

I've got an ingrowing toenail which is making me a bit high!!! Who would have believed it?!?

SpottyTeacakes · 26/11/2015 06:49

It's ridiculous what effects it. My basal has been up by 50% now for ages but I woke up at 9. Wish I would just get better had such an awful night too!

Hello, I've just been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes, Lost 44lbs in 5 months and have gone off food in general, was Blood tested after recurrent thrush and the GP noted the weight loss and extreme thirst.

I am 5+5 weeks pregnant, I had GD with my son 8 years ago but was able to control it with my diet and it went away after he was born, but the advice seems to be different now, although it is a different type of diabetes, it seems that you have to keep an eye on your carb count from what I've read over the last 24 hours?

I'm off to pick up my testing kit today but any other advice for a pregnant diabetic would be great, I feel so guilty knowing I've caused more complications for this baby, I'm more than willing to listen to good advice.

TA

SpottyTeacakes · 06/12/2015 08:05

I don't know much about type 2 I'm afraid.

My bms are so high and I don't know why Sad

paddyclampitt · 06/12/2015 23:50

Mine are rubbish today too. I'm blaming Storm Desmond and also AF

SpottyTeacakes · 07/12/2015 06:43

They've settled now don't know what it was so frustrating. I've got my hba1c weds and I'm not looking forward to it

MrsCampbellBlack · 08/12/2015 20:44

Hi everyone! DS continues to manage his levels well. But his school have been pretty crap (transferred to senior in September) - he had his worst ever hypo in October where he collapsed at school and the 'cover' teacher thought he was messing around as wasn't aware he had diabetes.

I was very calm in my dealings with the school as they clearly knew they had messed up especially as he was in their prep school.

Main issues at the moment are other mean children calling him 'diabetic freak' or 'fat and that why he has type 2'. I mean in some ways - well at least they recognise there are two types but honestly he is like a skinny rake.

Just makes me sad that he has so much crap to deal with in terms of diabetes let alone horrid children at school.

Our DSN emailed me today to say she feels she hardly ever sees us - that's a good thing though surely Wink

SpottyTeacakes · 08/12/2015 21:02

Oh that's horrible that people are calling him names Sad I can't remember does he have a pump?

paddyclampitt · 10/12/2015 23:29

That happened to me when I was at school once when we had a substitute teacher!! They didn't believe that I needed to eat!!

How was your a1c, Spotty ?

SpottyTeacakes · 15/12/2015 14:42

It was 7.1!! I usually sit at 7.8/7.9 and considering I still haven't got my pump levels sorted and I had been struggling with a chest and ear infection I'm really pleased. It definitely gives me encouragement to keep at it Smile

paddyclampitt · 15/12/2015 23:33

That's great *Spotty" - well done :)

RueDeWakening · 15/12/2015 23:39

I got put in detention once, for treating a hypo. School never acknowledged my T1 at all - you'd think having at least one teacher also T1 and both parents teaching there, they'd have a clue. But no...

I've just found you lot again :o off to RTFT (again) now!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2015 07:37

Welcome back rue!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/12/2015 18:44

Oops 1.9!

paddyclampitt · 16/12/2015 22:18

Did you feel it?

RueDeWakening · 16/12/2015 22:40

I've just had a 2.2 and eaten a bag of wine gums in a foggy haze, whoops!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/12/2015 06:05

I felt it was low but not to that extent. I only had yellow and green wine gums left Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 17/12/2015 07:14

My screen has gone funny on my pump Confused I'm so paranoid about it breaking.
