Has anyone experienced leg cramps with night time hypos, or on waking from them?

SpottyTeacakes · 12/07/2015 11:38

Can't say I have. Do you get them at other times too?

Hexiegone · 12/07/2015 14:28

Not really, occasionally if I bend my foot the wrong way or kneel down but this is different. Very sore and tight. The first time it lasted for half the day but I've been more aware the last couple of times so I've been able to move the right way to avoid it, or I've maybe just been lucky. I think I'll ask the DSN next time I'm in touch with her.

SpottyTeacakes · 16/07/2015 17:44

If I'm having a hypo 3 hours after lunch is it my basal rather than bolus?

Edenviolet · 16/07/2015 17:48

I'd have thought so. We would blame the bolus dose if it was within an hour and a half after eating.
Three hours after I think it's probably the basal

SpottyTeacakes · 16/07/2015 17:51

I usually go up to two hours but then I'm wondering if it's because of what I ate Confused I need to do some fasting readings. How is dd hedgehog?

Edenviolet · 16/07/2015 18:06

She's ok thank you, school are being wonderful and they've guaranteed 1:1 in year 1 and 2 and agreed to have glucagon in school. I feel a lot better knowing she's well looked after

Still no hypo awareness though. But hba1c down again and now 7.5%

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/07/2015 19:16

Evening! Have any of you taken part in the Diabetes trialnet study? Myself and my 2 dc's who don't have type one had our blood tests a couple of months ago.

Today got the results for my DD and myself which are both negative however my other child's results weren't included. I've phoned and they're looking into it but I am seriously stressing that it is going to be bad news.

DH thinks it is just a clerical error but I'm not so sure.

Rainymellowjanuary · 17/07/2015 19:27

I'm Type 1. I've found that one of the best remedies for hypos is oatcakes, much better for you than Lucozade or jelly beans. Two - four oatcakes usually sort one out.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/07/2015 19:32

Oatcakes would take forever to get my levels up!

Mrscb I don't know what that is Blush

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/07/2015 19:57

It is this. The theory is that it tests family members for auto-antibodies and if they are present they then go into a study which may help delay the onset of diabetes.

Children have to be tested each year even if negative.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/07/2015 20:03

MrsCB that's really interesting. My dc are too young to put through the tests, I feel, but otherwise I would love for them to take park. My mum has type1 too and my sister has lupus so I do worry about the dc.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/07/2015 20:08

How old are your dc? Mine are 5 and 7 and were fine having the initial blood test as they'd given me the 'magic' cream. The nurses also gave them toys to keep!

SpottyTeacakes · 17/07/2015 20:11

2 and 5. They don't do it anywhere near us though which is weird.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/07/2015 20:45

Also dd isn't allowed magic cream because of her eczema Sad

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/07/2015 11:24

Oh that is a shame Spotty.

They just called me, my 7 year old is also negative - somehow his letter just didn't make it into the envelope.

Am so relieved although they will continue to be tested every year.

SpottyTeacakes · 20/07/2015 19:19

How are people's dc getting on?

I have to say (sorry paddy) my pump has changed my life. I can give myself 0.3u for my milky coffee and 0.2 for a cheddar. The past couple of days my levels (bar a misjudged dinner) have been perfect, I've never had levels like it. I'm hoping it carries on like this and if so I'll be looking forward to my next hba1c!

paddyclampo · 21/07/2015 18:44

My nephews have that antibodies test every year as one of my DB's sons has type 1 despite my bro being fine.

I have had a good week - levels have hardly gone above 8 all week :) :)

I'm putting it down to the CGM - I just love the way the graph has given me the bigger picture. The sensor annoys me though, my skin gets itchy.

The only thing was that the first sensor I had, I put on my arm and people kept asking me what it was - I have to be in the mood for questions, and that week I wasn't!

I'm still in two minds about the pump, I go through phases of wanting it and times where I think, actually I don't want to be attatched to something.

We're trying to persuade my nephew to use the pump but he isn't interested right now.

Watch my levels all go wrong now I've spoken too soon!!

paddyclampo · 21/07/2015 18:47

Going back to the trials MrsCAmpbell - don't you have to have a sibling with type 1 to be able to have the test? I'd love my DS and DD to be tested but I don't think they would qualify with only having a type 1 parent?

samk15 · 22/07/2015 09:34

Good morning,

Are there any pregnant type 2's around? I'd love to have someone to discuss it with Smile

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/07/2015 11:53

I had the test paddy because ds1 has type one. Am pretty sure your dc's could have it with a parent for type one.

How paranoid are you all with your dc's and symptom spotting - everytime my other two go to the loo slightly often I'm on what my eldest calls 'diabetes watch' Wink

SpottyTeacakes · 22/07/2015 12:04

Im concerned for my dc's future especially with my newly added diagnosis of lupus Hmm

Sorry not type 2 but happy to answer any questions as best I can Smile

paddyclampo · 22/07/2015 21:28

My kids have had so many finger pricks cos I've been paranoid!! If either of them asks for a drink I get jittery!! I have relaxed slightly now that they are bother older than I was at diagnosis - the next thing is for them to get past the age my nephew was!

Samk I'm type 1, not type 2, but I'd imagine type 2s would face similar issues to us when pregnant?

Thanks MrsCampbell I will look into it!

gingerroots · 22/07/2015 22:14

Hi paddy other criteria for pump I think is despite good control the number of hypos affects your quality of life-does this fit your situation?i got a pump on this basis. t1 30+ yrs good control....

hoxty · 23/07/2015 18:58

Hello samk15. Not a pg type 2 now, my kids are 13 and 10, but diabetic pregnancies are hard to forget, so happy to talk about it all Smile.
