How does it feel tone in here?

I'm just pooling around on my iPad, wasting time, when I realized that Dadsnet is in the club section of mn and wondered how people felt about that?

Would it be more relevant to be in the parenting section, or does there even need to be a separate section?

Just curious, really, but it sort of feels like being a Dad is some kind of hobby group you might sign up to on a Thursday evening, when I suspect that really it's part of everyday life.

:) .

Well I'm sure you'll sleep well AF after cow pudding and chips ;)

Which is what intend to do now.

Night

AnyFucker · 15/08/2012 22:59

good night

I shall heave my cow-filled carcass around my sofa for a little while longer

AnyFucker · 15/08/2012 23:00

I might even have a small glass of red

for medicinal purposes, you understand

LePan · 15/08/2012 23:21

yes, there was a big bang and the earth cooled.... and after a while (missing out the boring bits), MN created Dadsnet just for me. Smile

AnyFucker · 15/08/2012 23:35

heh

kickassangel · 16/08/2012 00:36

Jeez, I spend a day doing stuff with the family, log back in the moment I can get some wi-fi and all hell broke loose, then neatly resolved by a bit of chatter about food.

Pan, all hail, the origin of Dadsnet. I'm impressed.

Btw, just had a v late lunch at hard rock cafe, followed by a walk by Niagara Falls and a visit to Hershey's store. Dh had a couple of pints and is now snoring like a trooper. Dd is hungry and I have no food for her.

Bollocks. Missed the action again!

Don't see why an extremely slow meta-discussion about the Feminism folder between me and MrGin means a telling-off, but there you go.

Anyway, I am intrigued by how others make smoked haddock risotto, as I once thought I'd invented it. I break it up and poach it in the rice towards the end with peas. But I know my dear old mum thinks you should poach an entire fillet and balance it on the top when serving up, which I think is bonkers and making unnecessary washing up.

UnimaginitiveDadThemedUsername · 16/08/2012 12:28

Also, kickassangel:

If you're in Niagara, did you know that Capt. Webb (he of the swimming the Channel and matches fame) is buried in the US side of Niagara? He tried to swim under the Falls and came a cropper.

KickTheGuru · 16/08/2012 12:37

Today, I am DEFINITELY cooking a rack of ribs.

Getting my Pink Floyd / David Gilmour fix and wondering if it's too early for a whiskey (kidding a bit)

Start my nooo job on Monday.

kickassangel · 16/08/2012 20:09

In imaginative, we have been reading up on all the mad people who have gone over the top and been telling dd that we'll be sending her down. She says we won't do it cos in jail you don't get coffee.

I'd love to know how Pan feels being the master of the universe Dadsnet

I stop posting on MN for a few years, and something interesting happens in Dadsnet while I'm gone... what are the chances?

LePan · 16/08/2012 22:03

A few of the good things about the 'tone' in Dadsnet:

  • we all treat each other respectfully
  • non-one tries to 'own' it.
  • less is more (see curry/rissoto thread - class)
  • we don't do trolls
  • some are single parents, soley, some nrps, one or two sans children, one or two SAHD, some support Arsenal - but there's no competition.
- misoginistic women- reviling posts get ignored, or the posters are quietly shown the door.

You know, all the sort of things the rest of MN could learn from.Grin

Changlingz · 16/08/2012 22:07

I reckon men are less judgemental than women.

Sweeping generalisation.

LePan · 16/08/2012 22:14

proportionally, posters in D/N work full time, I think, than the rest of MN, so there is less time to post, as well as having family stuff.
Yes, we're more likely to shrug when judgement is being invited, rather than launching into a judgey-pants rant. We're just cool.

LePan · 16/08/2012 22:20

Just seen the 'women aren't sometimes welcome' thing - really?? - tbh I've not really seen that happen generally.

o, and I haven't been here since Noah was a lad! Off and on since 2006, when did a search for Highly Sensitive Children. I think UQD was here already.

KickTheGuru · 16/08/2012 22:36

Men are tons less judgmental. You also tend to be able to largely use your brain for thought while women use so many levels of emotion, a spaceship couldn't get through

MrGin · 16/08/2012 22:38

Isn't Smoked haddock risotto more of a kedgery ( sp sorry ) ?

My mum used to make it . tWas yummy.

Pan. < bows and makes elaborate arm gestures >

That's a pretty good summery of your domain life in dadsnet. I would hope that we could actually make it more active here. It kind of seems a bit more lively recently.

I also really like the idea of calling it radDads more for humour than anything else. More in the vein of skateboarding than politics.

And from there..... we can take over MN with our evil plans of domination ! Mwahahahaha ! Who's with me ?!

Sorry . Been to a works leaving do. I may have had some beer. Possibly a single malt...

LePan · 16/08/2012 22:49

Works leaving do you say MrG! I did a 5 mile run after work. Have 4 years to impress the selectors. #preparingforRio Grin

MrGin · 16/08/2012 22:54

LePan · 16/08/2012 22:56

MrGin · 16/08/2012 22:58

One more stop. Come on team GB!

MrGin · 16/08/2012 22:59
