How does it feel tone in here?

I'm just pooling around on my iPad, wasting time, when I realized that Dadsnet is in the club section of mn and wondered how people felt about that?

Would it be more relevant to be in the parenting section, or does there even need to be a separate section?

Just curious, really, but it sort of feels like being a Dad is some kind of hobby group you might sign up to on a Thursday evening, when I suspect that really it's part of everyday life.

The same is the case with the SN posters and disablism, btw, as I understand it - they report an offensive poster and are told their responses are good eduation or a good argument against what that poster says, so MNHQ won't delete or ban.

It is understandable, but when there's an influx of trolls/stirrers, it makes it much harded because people know they can report and report, and it may take days to get a ban on a genuine troll.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 18/08/2012 00:03

maryz - exactly.

That is the issue.

I saw enough of a certain poster recently to know s/he was not genuine, and s/he was twisting the words of real posters to stir - but I'd not have known that if I'd not seen all the threads. This is why I think it's impossible really to judge situations unless you've seen the threads in question - otherwise it becomes a case of Chinese whispers.

kickassangel · 18/08/2012 00:12

I'm using my iPad and really cba to trawl through the bits I missed. Can't believe tha t a thread in Dadsnet has caused all this, although I once started some controversy over in arts and crafts, still don't know what the problem was and I didn't even think it was possible to get their yarns in a twist.

Pan, I knew which Kick thingy you meant but other posters seemed to be getting confused. Can't believe that Mr Gin didn't seem to remember me as I 'spoke' to him fairly recently. Not sure it's a banning offense though.

Talking of spelling, this whole moving to North America thing has completely messed up my spelling. Which is a shame as I teach it.

So, what's for dinner? We just had ice cream at the Rainforest Cafe. Google it, then reflect that it is positively upmarket for where we are staying.

yes Lemarch - it isn't a blanket rule that we can say what we like in D/N as if it has no consequence anywhere else. But usually...we stick to good stuff and make the odd tangential ref to other sections and that's about it. I do see why HQ chose to come down heavy today..BUT...the scythe was unforgiving today, imo, but HQ look at other stuff as well, I think.

Afternoon kickass! Phew!

Yes this is a wildly odd thread. Dinner was tuna and pasta (in between posting here!) - breakfast will be two fried eggs on toast and a coffee.

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/08/2012 00:21

What an absolutely bizare thread.

usualsuspect · 18/08/2012 00:23

It's got it all. this thread.

Lemarch - yes we agree, largely.

Thumbwitch · 18/08/2012 00:47

Very sad to see MrGin has been banned and I really hope it's only a temp suspension - and that he comes back again afterwards (which he may well decide not to :( )

kickassangel · 18/08/2012 00:57

Dear god I wish I was married to a man who could/would cook.

I still remember Pan making carbonara. Do you have a fondness for pasta by any chance?

All I want is for FWR and Dadsnet to get on because really they have so much common ground but just don't see it. It's like West Side Story all over again. Did Tony and Maria teach us nothing?!

Thumbwitch · 18/08/2012 01:01

Altogether now:
"I'd like to teach the world to sing
in perfect harmony
I'd like to hold it in my hand
and keep it company..."

LePan · 18/08/2012 01:02

kick - you remember that??!! Cuisine wise, last effort was defusing a difficult poster with offers of making chicken cacciatora, which defused the situation. Some good food, the well-placed compliment and you're like putty....Grin

Thumbwitch · 18/08/2012 01:03

I thought risotto was the plat du jour on here, not pasta; although how you thought a cacciatore would do anything other than inflame, Pan (non-chilli fan here) Wink

LePan · 18/08/2012 01:06

risotto or curry. We still discuss it by PM.

NewStartSameStory · 18/08/2012 01:09

has it calmed down again now and gone back to food? thank. fuck. big fry up for breakfast tomo. it's sat so why not.

BelfastBloke · 18/08/2012 01:34

Curry, surely?

Risotto can fuck right off.

Inneedofbrandy · 18/08/2012 01:40

I'd love a full english tomorrow, might have to go to the cafe on trading estate, get a gert lush lorry drivers breakie.

Thumbwitch · 18/08/2012 01:52

Risotto is bloody lovely, BB. If it's done properly. Kedgeree, which was mentioned further up by Gin, is also bloody lovely but needs more planning (and hardboiled eggs)

LePan · 18/08/2012 10:23

and calm.......this doesn't look any better in the morning does it? I hope there is a good resolution to MrGingate and there is at least some communication. MrG, if you are reading, take the best of care and maybe have a chat with HQ IF you so desire?

LePan · 18/08/2012 10:29

Getting back to the OP, if I may kickass..having a separate section may seem a bit of an anachronism re parenting as you say. But it seems to work pretty well ime at least. We don't see parenting as a hobby etc, and are probably pretty much confident enough to know this and so not get unduly annoyed or dispirited. Women come and go in this section, and dads feel free to post anywhere else on MN as parents tho' with a differing perspective and all, sometimes.
