How does it feel tone in here?

I'm just pooling around on my iPad, wasting time, when I realized that Dadsnet is in the club section of mn and wondered how people felt about that?

Would it be more relevant to be in the parenting section, or does there even need to be a separate section?

Just curious, really, but it sort of feels like being a Dad is some kind of hobby group you might sign up to on a Thursday evening, when I suspect that really it's part of everyday life.

Af/foosa in hindsight with respect to kicktheguru reviewing and reading carefully rather then skimming the posts before they went poof the likeliest reason for banning was not sockpuppeting but goading. It seems the definition of goading is actually incredibly narrow. In some respect this can be good in others it could stifle debate.

TheDreadedFoosa · 17/08/2012 18:22

Newstart - i never mentioned sockpuppeting, think that was mainly MrGins and changelingz theory?

I have said i believe ktg's inention was to shit-stir.

TheDreadedFoosa · 17/08/2012 18:23

And ididnt skim the posts Confused
Iwas reading the thread last night.

NewStartSameStory · 17/08/2012 18:25

You might not but perhaps other skim read? I know i did. I was acknowledging that in hindsight that banning should not be so surprising necessarily.

NewStartSameStory · 17/08/2012 18:26

Af suggested sockpuppeting it was a combined response sorry if i confused.

TheDreadedFoosa · 17/08/2012 18:29

Ah right, got ya

LePan · 17/08/2012 18:31

Well this is going to take a bit of digesting, isn't it? Would be really interested in which amoeba took the bother to live on the report button.

TheDreadedFoosa · 17/08/2012 18:37

I dont do much reporting myself, and didnt report anything on this thread but i dont think the reporting was the problem, there was no need for this thread have dig after dig about a group of MNers who were not even part of the discussion.
Was all a bit weird really

NewStartSameStory · 17/08/2012 18:38

Tbh Pan it is entirely possible that mnhq have just been following a poster they have a hunch about, but needed more evidence. It is unlikely we will ever know.

MrsRhettButler · 17/08/2012 18:39

Oh fucksache I've missed it all again

Who knew it could kick off like this on dadsnet!

NewStartSameStory · 17/08/2012 18:40

"there was no need for this thread have dig after dig about a group of MNers who were not even part of the discussion." Same could be said about a lot of threads still happens. but it was deliberately on the most part kept fairly general however it is a touchy subject and time is needed for healing on some parts.

TheDreadedFoosa · 17/08/2012 18:40

YeaH, very possible the thread only got flagged up due to a fairly obvious troll trolling on it.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 17/08/2012 18:41

I rarely report anything myself but then again, I tend to stay away from AIBU or other controversial topics, so no need

The final few posts deleted seemed innocuous enough to me and I did read the whole thread. Clearly I'm easily confused and the nuances of goading are lost on me.

TheDreadedFoosa · 17/08/2012 18:43

Also true, newstart. But freds about freds and the like are almost always squashed wherever they are on the boatd ( if they ome to hq's attention, of course)

LePan · 17/08/2012 18:45

TheDread - yes, I never report unless it's very vitriolic or offense to whole groups of people. But this issue seems to be about the history of one poster in particular who insulted and undermined anyone who disagreed with them, but who doesn't seem to be around anymore. I'd referred to that poster a few times as did A LOT of people. But to do it in this quiet, sleepy backwater appears to attract much more attention. Totally out of proportion.

There is a massive inconsistency in deleting and banning practices. Perhaps an apology to those banned, or threats to ban, posters on this thread may be in order. MN have apologised before.

NewStartSameStory · 17/08/2012 18:48

Hey, I am not disagreeing that the situation needed dealing with, and that the fall out is/can be extreme in these situations but it seemed a little over harsh reaction when HQ came on to deal specifically with the issue with deletions and policy clarification.

LePan · 17/08/2012 18:50

NewStart - you mean kickthingy? Have never heard of him/her, so I don't have anything to say or offer. But banning/threats to ban on this thread's evidence to MrG, Unimaginative etc seems really excessive, and makes the 'enforcement' policy look fairly comic and ridiculous.

LePan · 17/08/2012 18:55

just checked emails - no threat issued.

NewStartSameStory · 17/08/2012 18:55

erm... reading too many threads the clarification about poster thread which was linked to this is about to go poof.

Not sure which bit you are referring to Pan. I have too many meds in my system and my brain is mush as a result. can you clarify which bit of my posting you were refering to?

LePan · 17/08/2012 18:57

18:38, NewStart. I thought you were speculating on one poster here i.e kickthingy. Apols if not so.

NewStartSameStory · 17/08/2012 19:05

It was meant as a generalisation but its wording could be seen as a specific hint.
The poster initially banned mentioned goading and if she had been reported on another thread but there was insufficient evidence then I am pretty certain monitoring wouldn't be inconceivable.
I am certain that troll monitoring/etc will require a certain amount of evidence gathering at some stage so for there to be posters being followed around the boards during quieter periods is not inconceivable to me. alternatively there really is a bright red flashing lights going off in hq for certain key words. Although the fact that they might be keeping an eye on possible troublesome posters is slightly more reassuring, and might hint that policy isn't as completely random as it might sometime be perceived.

LePan · 17/08/2012 19:08

Well it's worth asking MN to reconsider. I don't know how much MrG could be bothered with it, but I'll mail HQ to think again. He is nrp with a small dd and could use the other more worthwhile sections of MN, imho. I've been there!

NewStartSameStory · 17/08/2012 19:13

I think is probably a fair assessment. Although I really don't know what good it will do. HQ are swayed little by the interference of outsiders. I am hoping that some of the other mnners might be able to support from outside the mn environment in the meantime.

LePan · 17/08/2012 19:15

maybe. mailed HQ in any event.

BelfastBloke · 17/08/2012 19:16

LePan: "UQD. I evoke your name. You make yourself manifest."

Yeah, Pan, how do you manage that? It's like a strange mystical power you have.
