There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

  1. Which team you support.
  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  1. A thought on the season so far (Premiership/Championship/Champions? League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/World Cup bids.

I've never booed the team.

I can't actually remember if I booed Wenger's decision to take off Oxlade-Chamberlain and sub him for Arshavin. I doubt I did, but I certainly shared the frustration of the many who did, because the Ox was the only one being positive at the time.

I seem to recall back in the dark days of Dave Sexton (remember him anyone?) we played some tragic football and I may have been known to boo in the course of a defeat. But I was young and impressionable!
I do think that you are supposed to 'support' (it's sort of implied..)and booing and generally taking the micky whilst your team is on the pitch has you identified as an 'underminer', n'est-ce pas?

Pan · 08/05/2012 15:05

yes, if something happens you don't like it's best to grumble to your mate next door, or compose a sharply-worded letter to the chairman........

BelfastBloke · 08/05/2012 15:05

There have been fights amongst the Arsenal fans around me between the 'booers' and the 'supporters'.

They're known in the fanzines as:
AMG's (Arsene Must Go) and AKB's (Arsene Knows Best)

OP posts:
Pan · 08/05/2012 15:08

and which is you, BB?

I am stabbing at leaning towards AKB, but falling short of the infallibility thing?

BelfastBloke · 08/05/2012 15:15

Well. A year ago I was AMG for the first time ever. The summer was a nightmare.

This month, however, we've signed Podolski (who could play WITH RVP better than Gervinho), and Wenger has finally shaken up his team. Pat Rice, God bless 'im, will leave and Stevie Bould will be promoted to No2 (interestingly, over Tony Adams). So signs are encouraging.

My ideal scenario, of course, is one more year of Wenger, and then Pep Guardiola comes back from his sabbatical to turn 'Arselona' - lite - into Barcelona.

But I suppose that's your ideal one-year scenario with regards ManUre? Or would you prefer Mourinho?

Pan · 08/05/2012 15:31

Trying to not think past The Wizard being cast into the Pit of Doom as yet, tbh. Pep? Not proven beyond his own school yard, where he grew up and is loved, and had a squad of ball-players waiting for him. (The finances of RM and Barca are also curious which Pepe might struggle without.

Jose? Probably. Or St Martin O'Neil. There is only a step down from SAF.

CurrySpice · 08/05/2012 16:15

Can non-gooners post here? Wink

KenDoddsDadsDog · 08/05/2012 18:02

St Martin - don't you dare! We need to party with Marty for a bit longer.
Do you think that Blackburn will be relegated tonight?

BelfastBloke · 08/05/2012 18:23

Curry, I believe I'm the only Gooner here.

I wonder if you have assumed Pan was also a Gooner, given his civilized discourse, but he's actually a representative of the Evil Empire.

BelfastBloke · 08/05/2012 20:22

Scousers 1-0 up against the Chavs. Anyone interested? I'm not. BBC drama instead.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 08/05/2012 21:20

Oooooh wish it had been that way in the FA cup. 4-1 now.

Pan · 09/05/2012 09:10

"assumed Pan was also a Gooner, given his civilized discourse".. talk about wrong-footing someone.Smile

KDDDD - I'm not that taken with MO on a long term basis, but you pretty well know that given SAF will be upstairs somewhere at O.T. he'll have a massive say in who takes over.

CurrySpice · 09/05/2012 12:26

Pan - it was a bit of a shit sandwich kinda comment wasn't it Grin

I am very happy to have made it onto the list

All the Spurs fans I know thought they might get The Special One at WHL when 'Arry went for the England job

Oblomov · 09/05/2012 22:43

'Arry says we've played well. 'Ave ya? really? when woz that then? Kaboul said they'd a good season. Err not from where I was watching.
Has been so painful to watch.
Spurs don't derserve CL. Dh says I am not a true fan!! I think I am realistic. But to lose it to thug JT lifting the CL trophy, is just tooooooo much.

Loved the chicken.
Thought Alex showed his true colours, stress when Mancini 'riled' him.
You have to admit that its an exciting last day of the season.

ElBurroSinNombre · 10/05/2012 10:47

As predicted, the Seasiders prevail in another epic encounter. Hard luck Birmingham, really admire Hughton

If we do win on May 19th will big Sam's beetroot head explode?

Pan · 10/05/2012 20:17

Mucho grande ElBurro Hmm. fwiw I'd be favouring Blackpool, if only for your manager and for having another NW club in the PL!

Alex never doesn't show his true colours. Gawd you gotta love him.

Yep. The Final Coutdown. Under Pressure (Queen and Bowie). The Handbags and the Glad Rags ( The Faces). The Winner Takes It All Abba). We Are The Champions! (Queen) Two out of Three Ain't Bad (Meatloaf). So You Win Again (Hot Chocolate). The Kick Inside ( Kate Bush) . It's Just Another Day (Beatles).

Pan · 10/05/2012 21:20

The Cwown - Gary Byrd and Stevie Wonder ()

Pan · 10/05/2012 21:41

Other footie song at the last Auld Firm game:

Rangers : "We'll be Rangers til we die.."

Celtic: "You'll be Rangers til July..".

BelfastBloke · 11/05/2012 11:49

"You'll be Rangers til July..". Excellent.

Rooney, Welbeck, Defoe, Crouch, Carroll, Sturridge, Zamora. He's likely to take Zamora because he knows him.

If taking five strikers Woy would have to decide between Carroll and Crouchie, to play a similar role.

I would take Crouch, even though I believe Carroll is the future for England. But right now you can't rely on him.

OP posts:
Pan · 11/05/2012 12:59

"Rooney, Welbeck, Defoe, Crouch, Carroll, Sturridge, Zamora" Crumbs, is that the English striking talent pool?

BelfastBloke · 11/05/2012 13:09

Woy will turn that base metal into gold...
