There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

Relegation Sunday: it's been a twisty turny thing!

And Citeh have beaten Arsenal to the third Champs Lg spot: we may have to beat some club like Bayern Munich in the playoff leg - which I certainly wouldn't bet on.

Man U vs Barcelona.

Thoughts? Due in the pub in about 4 hrs.

United will drown Barca in the first 30 mins. Put them under pressure and see how they respond, other than rolling around on the floor.

AwesomePan · 28/05/2011 16:39

What? Not even Belfast 'TheVoice of Reason' Bloke with an opinion?

AwesomePan · 28/05/2011 18:58

ok - off to pub with my Coventry City mate. Tells me barca is just like watching Coventry....Hmm

foxinsocks · 28/05/2011 19:04

is that the real Pan?

even though I am cfc to the core, I am hoping Man U win tonight. Nothing I'd like more than to see those smug barca lot be done over.

Thenextstage · 28/05/2011 20:51

Why are the ITV commentators supporting Barcelona?

BelfastBloke · 28/05/2011 21:58

Sorry, Pan, I wasn't able to check into MN until right now.

Have just watched the game; glad Barca won. I was fairly sure they would, even though it made a better narrative if Man U won. But this Man U side hasn't been spectacular this season at all, even if congrats are in order for them winning the Prem.

And Barca HAVE been brilliant this season, and were again tonight.

Hello, BB!

yes fox, hello you. done lots in rl, but wished to say hi on this momentous evening...

Well, that was close wasn't it?

to be honest am still in shock. My local red pub holds about 250. You could have heard a shiny pin drop for the 2 hrs of torture.

MavisEnderby · 28/05/2011 22:39

Close????I think Manchester United were totally outclassed, sorry!

(Bitter my-team-couldn't-even-make-the-Premiership-footy-fan here) :o

Seriously,Barcelona are an awesome team and don't see many teams surpassing them.

Theres always next year:)

AwesomePan · 28/05/2011 22:43

mavis, I was being horribly sarcastic, and of course you are right. Can't remember a more one-sided ECL final. Other than 2 years ago.......

I remember the Brazil team ( just) of 1970 World Cup. And these Catalans could have outplayed even them.

shock hasn't lifted yet. Nice cup of tea.

MavisEnderby · 28/05/2011 22:48

It could be worse,Pan.My son is a Hull City fan and despite supporting another team in the same division I have just paid out £400+ for a Tigers season ticket for us both so we can go watch them next season. Now THAT is what devoted parenting is all about, lol!

Nice cup of tea several beers definitely in order.

Rooneys goal was good though!

AwesomePan · 28/05/2011 22:57

you're not wrong about the devoted parenting thing! I do hope he appreciates your sacrifice.Smile

we had 4 beers in total, and are solidly sober.

Rooney's goal - yes, well taken even though Giggs was off-side for the assist.

It all looked so hopeful at 7.45pm, and for a few minutes afterwards. Even when we equalised Barca were totally unfazed.

AwesomePan · 28/05/2011 22:59

BB- Arsenal imploded rather spectacularly, n'est-ce pas? That Carling Cup final was poison to you both.

BelfastBloke · 28/05/2011 23:03

Oh yeah, implosion for sure. But we knew it was going to happen as soon as he didn't buy anyone at Christmas, because the exact same thing has happened the last few years.

Things will change this summer, because lots will leave. Denilson says he's leaving because he's 'a winner' and Arsenal aren't winning things. We're not winning because HE was in the Squad!

Now look, Pan, you've got me all worked up on a nice evening.

AwesomePan · 28/05/2011 23:12

sorry BB.

You missed Vermailen A LOT, though few people seem to mention this. Cesc will no doubt be on his way. Nani has been sold to Juventus, Iam informed, and the Neville game last week was part of the deal. Giggs and Scholes are now def. past it. New goalie, Evra is on his way. Apparently. Going to be a v. busy summer for all.

eeore · 29/05/2011 18:44

Swansea or Reading?

Difficult to choose, both very good teams.

DanFmDorking · 06/06/2011 20:42

Apparently when they buried Bin Laden at sea they put him in a West Ham shirt so that he would stay on the bottom !

Just bought a Premiership tool box, although there are no hammers in it!!

BelfastBloke · 27/06/2011 16:57

So is anyone watching the Women's World Cup?

England v Mexico is just kicking off now.

The Guardian has had quite a lot of articles about this, but when you look at 'Today's Fixtures' on their website, it says 'no matches today'.

OP posts:
BelfastBloke · 27/06/2011 17:08

England getting better after a nervy start.

Lots of Arsenal players on this England team.

OP posts:
BelfastBloke · 27/06/2011 18:49

Mexico 1-1 England. Very poor.

That was just like watching England.

OP posts:
BelfastBloke · 09/07/2011 19:01

England 1-1 France. Quarter finals. End of full time, 30 mins of extra time to come - followed by pens?

France is on top, dominating the play and with a late equaliser.

  1. Man City
  2. Man Utd (scum), Spurs
  3. Regular beatings (Unbridled enthusiasm from me about City really)
  4. Looking forward to the new season. Think we will be in the top three, probably second but it will be a close run thing.
eeore · 15/08/2011 21:06

League 1 to top 6 in 2 seasons... ;-)

  4. LFC looking good, best transfer window in a long time with good signings & losing the dross.
Pan · 10/09/2011 13:49

Recap:
1.Manchester United

  1. Chelsea, Millwall.
  2. dd knows nothing about football, so likes Arsenal.
  3. Looking good so far. Infact pretty good. Normally we are slow out of the blocks and pick up with winning gallop about Feb. And the CL draw is a kind one.....
