Bike Yes it's July almost, which means only one thing. The biggest, craziest, Frenchiest push bike race in the world. Three weeks of riding round France in multi-coloured lycra, sweating, swearing, playing poker on 380 wheels, tears of joy and frustration, in the saddle for about 5 hours per day, up and down massive hills, throwing the odd tantrum. Then going to bed, and getting up in the morning and doing it all again! Questions: Why? Well we just don't know.Grin When? Starts on Saturday 2nd July with a flat bit from the beautiful Mont Saint- Michel on the Normandy coast to Utah Beach, and ends with the sprint finish on the Champs Elysee, Paris on Sunday 24th July. Where do they go? Essentially they ride for 2,200 miles around the edge of France, and wandering a bit into Spain, Andorre, and Switzerland. This is for the sake of going up and down the Pyrenees and the Alps. Which we know as the 'lumpy bits'. There's a route map coming up. There's always a route map. Is it tiring? Evidence suggests it might be. In the 3 weeks the riders consume the calorific equivalent of eating 252 McD's double cheeseburgers. Some of us are both proud and ashamed of the fact we could eat all of that in the 3 weeks without riding anywhere..... So who wins? It's the person who covers that distance in the shortest time. BUT..it's a team game and the winner cannot do it without all 9 team mates. The prize is 500,000 Euros, which the winner will partly hand out to his buddies. Is it on UK tv? Yes, ITV and Eurosport carry a lot of live action and both do a highlights package for an hour or so each evening. Is there a 'virtual' competition where you can 'buy' a team of riders within a budget and see how they do? I'm glad you asked that. here is a link to everything you will need to show off your directeur skills and have a bit of added interest for the race Do I have to know loads about pro-cycling to understand what's going on? Nope. Have a watch, have a read, ask anything on this thread and your layered knowledge will build and you will get so much more out of it. When are you going to shut up and show the route map? Now. David Millar is very informative, but utterly charisma less

As opposed to JAF Wink

MrSlant · 03/07/2016 14:54

I need to know what cougar bait means? How old is he? OMG he is actually a bit younger than me. All that riding is NOT good for the skin. I agree is was very poor seeing the chaos in the background whilst he did a set piece.

Love watching Cav in yellow with his team around him. Handy they had a matching helmet to hand eh?

AtiaoftheJulii · 03/07/2016 16:34

Contador crashed again today??? Is he drunk?

AtiaoftheJulii · 03/07/2016 16:36

Also Juan Antonio is definitely not young enough to be cougar bait!

ThisPanCanCan · 03/07/2016 16:57

Good win for the Green Devil but surely he knew by race radio that he was in the final bunch. Maybe they assumed he knew.

Doesn't matter about JAF's actual age now. Cougar Bait he is. Grin

MrSlant · 03/07/2016 17:07

I couldn't listen to Sagan being interviewed, after he dismissed yesterday's stage as 'boring' my current attempt at liking him has been set back somewhat. Also would someone please cut his hair.

Was a bit annoyed with the on screen timings not giving a clue that the peloton were actually only 25 meters away from the man at the front not 1 minute which with 1K to go is quite a significant difference.

Well if JAF is going to be declared young enough to be cougar bait I'm happy for that to stand Grin

MrSlant · 03/07/2016 17:07

Atia have you heard back from DD? DS1 have been doing Welsh flag spotting, saw quite a few today.

AtiaoftheJulii · 03/07/2016 17:53

Saw them yesterday and today they were on La Glacerie but didn't spot them.

Youngest dd loves Sagan, so he has become a bit of a family favourite - I'm happy to see him in yellow for the first time!

JAF - I was saying to dh during the Giro that he should be really good looking, but that there's something weird about his face when he talks, like the top and bottom aren't quite connected?

Feel sorry for Stuyvens, always nice for the breakaway to spoil a sprint finish.
Yeah, was confusing as timings were between him & Cavendish, who'd dropped off.
Sagan is a beast, but I agree he needs a haircut. Has Aru cut his hair, looked a bit wild in the Giro.
Serious time lost by some of the major players. Not an AC fan, but not nice for crashes to affect his chances. Not upset about Poodle Porte, should hopefully mean Tejay becomes their lead man now.
Let me clarify re JAF, maybe not classic cougar bait age but I can imagine older biddies swooning around him...as opposed to the opposite

Callmecordelia · 03/07/2016 19:08

I love David Millar.

I just checked velogames. I know it's a three week race, but.... Grin

SaffaQueen · 03/07/2016 19:24

LMAO, how about Sagan, Mrs Sagan & that Grease singalong!
What a charachter!

Callmecordelia · 03/07/2016 19:34

Don't like Daniel Freibe's delivery though - Ned would have made that much funnier.

hazelnutlatte · 03/07/2016 20:51

Was Sagan joking when he said he didn't realise he had won? He is such a strange character it's hard to tell!

FelixFelix · 03/07/2016 21:04

I love Sagan. He's off his rocker. Did anyone ever see his wedding photos? Classic.

Anyway I've just caught up and thoroughly enjoyed it. Can you imagine doing a climb right at the end of a very long race? Eughhhh.

ThisPanCanCan · 03/07/2016 21:36

Congrats on being the virtual maillot jaune in the virtual race. Virtually.Grin Cordelia Bike Looking good.

DramaAlpaca · 03/07/2016 23:36

Did anyone else see the team presentation on Eurosport?

Sagan was asked to introduce his team mates - he hesitated for a minute then said he couldn't remember all their names Grin

FelixFelix · 04/07/2016 08:53

Alpaca I watch on Eurosport but turned off before the presentation! Wish I'd carried on watching now.

MrSlant · 04/07/2016 11:44

Everything about him makes me cringe, I haven no idea why, I think it's from watching his weird dance with his wife to be. Or the themed wedding. Actually having a google I don't think it's him actually, when he has less hair I can cope. Couldn't find one with less hair and also a top. I must have hair issues.

MrSlant · 04/07/2016 11:45

Chapeau Callmecordelia. If my gang added all ours up we might do as well as you Grin Bike Grin.

Callmecordelia · 04/07/2016 12:26

[twirls] I'm going to enjoy my day in yellow while it lasts.

I have Richie Porte on my team....

maamalady · 04/07/2016 12:35

Sagan is a strange but entertaining man. Apparently he might be riding the cross country mountain bike event in the Olympics rather than the road race.

ThisPanCanCan · 04/07/2016 12:39

Now Cav has had his day in yellow, I'm looking to The Gorrila With Decent Hair to get some points on the board.

I don't have Richie Porte.

Callmecordelia · 04/07/2016 12:41

Poor old Richie. All those years of slogging up mountains for Chris Froome, he leaves Sky to be a leader, finally, and loses 1:45 waiting for a wheel.

msrisotto · 04/07/2016 12:41

Fair enough Mr. Slant. His hair always looks scraggy IMO.

DramaAlpaca · 04/07/2016 12:44

I'm very fond of little Richie, but I don't have him on my team either.

Would be great if Cav can get another stage today, then he'll be level with Hinault on 28 stage wins. The finish suits him better than yesterday.

In terms of my team, I need Kittel to win, but I'd love to see Cav do it.
