I want to do a Cat Stevens song, but I am worrying that they might sound a bit tuneless when anyone other than Cat Stevens sings them

I need something nice and low and lovely to sing

dp needs not too hard guitar accompaniment for which we can find the chords online

DP guitar maestro (:O) has suggested "Knocking on Heavens Door" by Bob Dylan.

Chords are g major,d major and a minor, all the way through, apparently.

HTH.

Enid · 10/06/2007 21:15

here it is in Bridge to Terabithia

FrannyandZooey · 10/06/2007 21:16

good gracious it is a bit depressing isn't it?

There ain't a lot that you can do in this town
You drive down to the lake and then you turn back around
You go to school and you learn to read and write
So you can walk into the county bank and sign away your life
I work at the fillin' station on the interstate
Pumpin' gasoline and countin' out of state plates
They ask me how far into Memphis son, and where's the nearest beer
And they don't even know that there's a town around here

Someday I'm finally gonna let go
'Cause I know there's a better way
And I wanna know what's over that rainbow
I'm gonna get out of here someday

Now my brother went to college cause he played football
I'm still hangin' round cause I'm a little bit small
I got me a 67 Chevy, she's low and sleek and black
Someday I'll put her on that interstate and never look back

Sorry. He said it was just easiest thing he could think of playing wise but may not totally fit folk remit!!!!

zizou · 10/06/2007 21:23

Sandy Denny who knows where the time goes. A right old weepy.

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2007 21:25

How about something by 10,000 maniacs? my friend plays them all the time, or indigo girls?
Or Jack Johnson - not sure how easy that is though, it sounds v complicated to me!
He also plays a lot of Billy Bragg - that would be good at a folk festival and it should not be in tune so you would be fine if you mess it up a bit! Lots of people sing along to a bit of Billy so it would hide any hiccups!
BTW - what folk festival is it?

zizou another one I don't know, YouTube here I come

ooooh Jack Johnson is mine and DPs song. My friend, the one mentioned below, is currently learning it on the guitar to play at our wedding I might put it on in a minute!

I agree that Jack Johnson would be great if you can do chords...

FrannyandZooey · 10/06/2007 21:28

Ooh loads of stuff to trawl through now

thanks all

This is the song I wouldn't mind trying (the video is a cover but not too bad)

Pavlov I am a weeny bit shy of saying just a friend of ours does a singaround at one and we thought we would have a go this year

American Pie is quite easy to strum - the chorus is basically G C G D G C G D G C G D Em A Em D.

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2007 21:29

NIN - oh you could do Hurt - like the cover that Johnny Cash Did, I really liked that

I could be here all night helping you!

wrinklytum · 10/06/2007 21:29

Jack Johnson album fab,but according to dp would be a little more tricky to play

grunjle · 10/06/2007 21:30

is it cambridge?

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2007 21:31

Franny - you will love it! You might even get the bug!
