Started this as we’ve veered off topic on the AG thread.

The same year that Suzy Lamplugh disappeared (1986), a similar case happeened in Bournemouth.

Sandra Court (26) was sadly found just out of town deceased by Scouts.

John Cannan was in Bournemouth on that day and Sandra's case is no longer being investigated.

Trevaline Evans, Steven Clark,
another two very odd cases. I've went down a rabbit hole now.

BangingOn · 30/01/2022 17:45

I’d never heard of the Ruth Wilson case, although she’s a similar age to me and I grew up nearby. I was away at boarding school when she disappeared, which I guess is why I didn’t hear about it. I really want to watch the documentary now.

@OnaBegonia thank you, that is my evening sorted.

As awful as it sounds, I believe the truth as to what happened to Ruth Wilson starts and ends at her home.

Probably. Her Dad, I suspect, knows more than he's letting on. (If her Dad hadn't have lied to Ruth about how her mother died, would all this have happened ?)

There was a retired Irish detective that did a You Tube presentation about her disappearance. He was surprised/disappointed that Ruth's Dad wasn't that interested in taking part.

OK, respect the family's privacy. However, it makes me wonder what her Dad's knows and would rather not say.

I do wonder with the Penny Bell case if the cash withdrawal was completely irrelevant and caused the investigation to go down a wrong track. In the early 90s paying by cash was far more common than it is today. They were having building work done so possibly one of the trades was paid in cash and kept quiet about it as it was 'off the books'.

Opeika Jane Doe is a really disturbing case.
A child found murdered, she was blind in one eye from abuse.
They even have a photo of her,yet no one's claimed her
It's really heartbreaking.

Billie - Jo Jenkins case to get a forensic review 25 years on from the unsolved murder. Hope they can solve it with advances in forensic technology. Very sad case, and think her mum passed away without ever knowing? Sad

Hadn't heard anything of this, how sad. Always find it so tragic and hard to believe how people can seemingly vanish, even more so at 3pm in the afternoon Sad I hope they find her.
dottydodah · 01/02/2022 16:06

I have read a lot about Penny Bell .She and her husband were seemingly happily married ,but he had been living with a guy for 10 years before he married Penny .The police thought it may have been something to do with his past .However the chap had come to their wedding, and was fine about it . There was also talk of her former neighbour John Richmond ,who claimed they had had a relationship being involved. He has denied this . Really sad case ,her daughter believes her Mum knew her killer .Tragically her father threw her out at 20 saying that seeing her every day reminded him of Penny too much!

movingschmooving · 01/02/2022 21:42

I just read the Penny Bell story… just devastating not to know how your mother was killed.

Thatbliddywoman · 02/02/2022 01:51

Ive watched the thing about Ruth :( so sad. Don't think it mentioned the notes the police found though.

Currently watching "looking for Mike'. So fascinating.

Not super recent, mid seventies, but the one I can't get my head around is Peter Gibbs - the Mull pilot who did a test flight from a hotel on the Isle of Mull at night, didn't return, and whose uninjured but definitely dead body was found up a hill four months later with no trace of water / immersion. The plane has never been found. There's a radio 4 podcast about it somewhere which is how I first came across it.

Oh yes! I listened to this podcast too. It's so weird!

MrsBobBlackadder · 02/02/2022 08:38

I first read about the Delphi murders on MN and that is one massive rabbit hole to fall down. It's so super creepy - they have video and audio of the supposed killer, yet they've never arrested anyone for it. Such an odd (and terribly sad) case...

Seriously odd. Albeit, much was made of the proximity to the road to where his body was found.

Also, an odd time to take off in a light aircraft. After dark on New Years Eve. The runway lit by lanterns provided by his girlfriend. Was there another person on the runway at that time ?

There was a murder of a Scottish factory worker. He had recently left his employment citing workplace bullying.

He had gone for a walk and had been stabbed to death.

He lived with his mum in small town Scotland. The hint is that he might have seen or known something (at work ?) that meant he had to be eliminated.

The village where the workplace is has a very small population yet nobody knows anything about it.

dayswithaY · 05/02/2022 08:00

There may be a break in the Delphi case soon. I don't have a link but it seems to be something to do with catfishing and a man has been arrested for trying to groom underage girls over Snapchat. They believe one of the girls may have been in contact with him, the other sadly was just collateral damage. Obviously, police have the girls' phones, and none of this has been proven yet.

The man who was arrested, to me looks like the artists drawing of Bridge Guy, the original suspect.

MrsBobBlackadder · 05/02/2022 08:12

@dayswithaY Thank you - I will have a read online. It's a shocking case and I really hope there are answers soon for the poor families of those two girls.

@BorderlineHappy

Philip Cairns a 13 year old schoolboy disappeared in 1986.

I remember it well as I was the age, also just started Secondary school.

He basically disappeared in to thin air.
And his schoolbag was found in the lane he walked through a couple of weeks later.

That is a sad case.
LadyEloise1 · 05/02/2022 19:32

@Pootle40
I met someone that grew up in the area and knew the family.
She said the really weird thing was that a close neighbour of Philip's had disappeared 10 years prior to Philip's disappearance.
I had never heard that before.
I don't know if it's true.

I apologise. His name was Sandy Drummond. He had been strangled in what the coroner described as a, 'perfect execution of a Japanese stranglehold' or words to that effect.

All very strange.
