Started this as we’ve veered off topic on the AG thread.

@HPLikecraft

Yes, that was Brandon Swanson *@ENoeuf*, listened to a podcast about him 😞
Oh that's right, I confused it with Bryce Lapisa. Bryce is another one that's so mysterious, he clearly wasn't in a good headspace
ENoeuf · 24/01/2022 23:42

I don’t know the Bryce Lapisa one I don’t think. It’s so weird that the planet is really populated and built on and yet people vanish.
The only one I ever think may have escaped for a second chance at life is Lucan.

@AdoptedBumpkin

This thread has reminded me of a documentary I saw a few years ago. It was about a man found dead on a beach in Cornwall, I think he'd been seen on a bus travelling away from the beach town but had ended up back there (deceased) somehow.
Alan Jeal was his name, after Googling.

I was wondering what podcasts people listen to. I listen to True Crime Brewery - a husband and wife team. They're really knowledgeable. That Chapter is good but not listened to him much recently. Oh, Missing Persons ( I'll get the full title) ; brilliant. The narrator's voice is amazing. I always end up falling asleep. Recently I've been listening to The Behaviour Panel - They're good too.

Lemonweightloss · 25/01/2022 07:38

Missing Persons Mysteries.

GnomeDePlume · 25/01/2022 08:01

@AdoptedBumpkin I have had an interest in Genette Tate's disappearance since it first happened. She was a couple of years older than me and I remember the Missing posters being up for a long time.

Robert Black feels a convenient suspect on the grounds that snatching children off the street was what he did. But Genette Tate at 13 was significantly older than his confirmed victims.

Blaming Robert Black makes everyone feel safer. The monster was caught, in prison and is now dead. If it wasnt him then it was somebody else who isnt necessarily in prison and may still be alive. That feels a lot less safe.

I listen to quite a few
  • True Crime Obsessed
  • Obsessed with Disappeared
  • Missing Maura Murray
  • True Crime Garage
  • The Last Call/Missing and Murdered/Someone Knows Something (CBC podcasts, there are several series of each focussing on Canadian cases)
  • Accused

Kevin Hicks went missing fairly local to us - popped out to buy eggs in 1986 and was never seen again.

my friend knows his sister - all very sad

Lemonweightloss · 25/01/2022 13:00

@BangingOn, thanks. I'll check them out.

BangingOn · 25/01/2022 13:57

The first two are comedy podcasts, Gogglebox style, as the watch documentaries and discuss them. It’s always supportive of the victims though and not in bad taste.

AdoptedBumpkin · 25/01/2022 16:34

You may be right there @GnomeDePlume.

Scottishnewbie2022 · 25/01/2022 16:43

@EllaMinnowPee there’s a podcast on BBC Sounds about that one if you’ve not heard it already.

ENoeuf · 25/01/2022 20:43

Thank you for adding podcast recommendations. I’m also replay interested in what happened to Phoebe Handsjuk (‘fell down an internal shute’) and the strange deaths of Rebecca Zahau and her boyfriends son.

Another one that is very strange is the murder of Penny Bell. She was stabbed to death in her car in a swimming pool car park in broad daylight.

The film of those twins was the weirdest thing I've ever seen, it was as if they were not human, or possessed. It played on my mind for a long time afterwards
OnaBegonia · 26/01/2022 10:39

Just read up on these twins, shocking she murdered that poor man and was out in a few years, astounding she was released form hospital just hours after the motorway incident.

ChrissyPlummer · 26/01/2022 11:15

@LastChristmasIGaveYouMyHeart If you search that one on Reddit, a lot of people think they know who it was, but there is no concrete evidence.

dayswithaY · 26/01/2022 11:38

I'll have a look on Reddit for Penny Bell, the saddest thing is that Penny's daughter became estranged from her Dad as he couldn't deal with seeing her after the murder.

GoofyIsACow · 26/01/2022 22:01

I have started listening to The Missing podcast, it’s fascinating and so sad 😞
The Bernadette Cooper one is really strange, we used to go on holiday to Benalmadena when i was small around that time. I can’t remember it feeling like the Costa del Crime but i suppose as a child you wouldn’t!

QuestionsorComments · 26/01/2022 22:07

Did they ever find the boy who might have set off from the South Coast to walk 100s of miles to his GF? Owen?

Not as far as I know.
GnomeDePlume · 27/01/2022 07:39

What makes some of the unsolved cases worse is where investigations have been stuffed up from the start. Crucial nail clipping evidence from the Penny Bell case was lost, found and contaminated.

Perhaps the problem stems from assumptions being made at the outset of the investigation that the case will be easy to solve so the boring admin of the case gets overlooked.

sashh · 27/01/2022 09:35

Sorry if these have been mentioned before. but if not a couple of YouTube rabbit holes.

"Finding Mike", a perfectly normal man working in an office called, Mike he makes friends with a co worker, Dylan. The business goes belly up but they stay in touch.

Then Mike has a sudden heart attack, the police can't find a next of kin so contact Dylan who had provided a reference for Mike to renew his passport.

The identity of the person in the passport has been stolen, if was a child who had died while young.

So Dylan goes looking for his friend.

I won't spoil it but it is worth a watch.

The other is a YouTuber called 'Mr Ballen' he has a few creepy stories but also some about disappearances, he gives the information in a story like way but he has at least one where he discusses people who disappear and then turn up later, alive but not realising time has past and some of them are found no where near they disappeared.

Noshowlomo · 27/01/2022 10:09

Just read about Penny Bell and the Eriksson twins. There are videos on YouTube of them running into traffic. It’s completely bonkers.
