Does anyone else want to join me?
Failing that, has anyone else done it and managed the 50 000 words?

Yes Helvetica, that's exactly the idea - in all the interesting stories children are free from parent's view/influence.

Southern, as a boarding school survivor Wink I hear you! But the one I attended for sixth form was quite unusual. The story involves an older teen so it's less jolly hockey sticks and communal showers and more middle-of-nowhere coming of age.

Oh, and please call me Gincognito! This is my not particularly successful Halloween guise.

eggdipdip · 28/10/2011 20:52

I've just signed up for this and now I don't know why! I have no plot, no idea for a plot, no characters, nothing. Oh boy. I need to get planning. I've never done NaNoWriMo before so any advice would be most gratefully received.

eggdipdip · 29/10/2011 21:25

ok, think I have an idea. That's one step forward yes? hopeful

Do you actually submit your work on the website? Obviously back it up, but if you sign up, do you have to submit your work on the website? There is a function to do this. I guess I'm asking, if you do this, is it private, or can anyone signed up for Nanowrimo read what you've written if they look at your profile?

MysteriousHamster · 29/10/2011 21:47

Must. Plan. More.

(procrastinating on ebay)

MysteriousHamster · 29/10/2011 21:48

Hi Quinn. If you want your ticker to change from the wordcount to winnter at the end, you have to copy and paste text into a wordcounter. However I believe there are ways to mix the words up before you do so so you only copy nonsense. It is not like uploading a full book anywhere - it's purely for the wordcounter. No one will ever read it.

QuinnFabray · 29/10/2011 21:57

Oh, great. Thanks! I want to attempt the 50,000 words in November, but I'm not exactly sure it's going to be in the form of a novel.

QuinnFabray · 29/10/2011 21:59

Hit send too soon! I like the idea of using the website though, and having it all down there in one place.

LetTheSlaughterBeGincognito · 30/10/2011 09:26

My name on there is urbanherbwife if anyone wants to add me as a buddy to shame each other into writing more offer mutual support.

escapeartist · 30/10/2011 14:40

I'm doing it for the first time this year. I write a lot but have never finished a novel! (partly because I write non-fiction).
I have a plot, a character and I also have a week off from work (for an operation, but it means I will be in bed for a lot of the time after) in the middle. I just want to start!! :)

Quick question - how do you add buddies? I have been going round in circles on the site... (I am escapeagain on NaNo)

LetTheSlaughterBeGincognito · 30/10/2011 18:37

You search for the name, then click on the profile and it comes up as an option. Not the most user friendly interface!

teejwood · 31/10/2011 11:43

hello
have just registered for the first time - but have no plot, plan or ideas Confused
and will be fitting this around work and kids.
in fact i've just procrastinated over choosing a username that hadn't already been taken.
this is going to be a disaster, isn't it?!

SouthernandCross · 31/10/2011 14:50

Hello everyone. Are we ready to go? Typically, I have one of the busiest Novembers ever lined up!
Those of you who have done this before, roughly how long does it take to write 1667 words? A couple of hours?

I've signed up, I'm Empusa on there.

CassiePalmer · 31/10/2011 20:41

It takes me a couple of hours to write 1667, but I do type quick and do no editing whatsoever (apart from spelling or I can't read it!). I have a really busy November and I'm not expecting to reach 50000, unless I can get a good word count this week.
And, as I did last year at the last minute, I decided my first plot was rubbish and decided to change to another idea yesterday, so I'm not quite ready to go yet.
I'm jomac79 on Nano but writing buddies wasn't working for me yesterday, taking a while for them to update the site to the new server I think.

dabbler · 01/11/2011 13:03

I have just joined today! So far I appear to have written 1,247 words of twaddle. Hmm

Empusa · 01/11/2011 13:41

Typically I woke up this morning with a killer headache, which still hasn't shifted, so no NaNoWriMo for me just yet.

SouthernandCross · 01/11/2011 15:48

I've done 1000 words so far but it's complete crap! Am resisting the impulse to edit. Does anyone know how to add your word count to the NNWM site?

OP posts:
SouthernandCross · 01/11/2011 15:48

Scrub that last question. It seems you just click and type in the number!!!

MysteriousHamster · 01/11/2011 19:37

I wrote 600 words after midnight last night and did another 1000 this lunchtime in the Costa near work. I have to work hard today though as my son has a (minor) op tomorrow and I don't know if I'll get any time to write. I tend to do best with Nano when I have a good first week, and worst when I don't!

I'm helenf on the forums.

Empusa · 01/11/2011 21:33

Despite the headache I managed 700 words. Nowhere near the 1667 words needed for the day, but it'll do.

CassiePalmer · 01/11/2011 22:21

I've managed 1313 words in the past couple of hours, I would have had more but spent about an hour trying to think of a place name! (why didn't I just write 'city' or something for now!).
I'm going Christmas shopping tomorrow and have an assignment to do so not holding out much hope of getting much more done till Thursday.
The nano site has been playing up for me today, slow and when I've tried to add people it just takes me back to the dashboard, will try again tomrrow.

SouthernandCross · 01/11/2011 22:38

2019 words for me. Time for bed....
