Worried about Drumcree

I feel like an interloper here and apologies if this isnt in the right place.

im really worried about the decision over Drumcree and I can’t see it ending well today either way.

I have no time for Jamie Bryson or Carla Lockhart and it seems that tensions have been stoked on both sides.

My parents (and one set of grandparents) were a mixed marriage - my mum and dad moved to England in the 1960s, and my granny and grandpa moved back in the late 70s/80s once they retired. Im aware I don’t have enough if a real understanding, but I have enough to be worried.

again, im sorry if this is the wrong place or offensive.

I’m not sure the Orange Order bombed and burnt children alive. I think you’re confusing them with the IRA. Many of which are standing on the Garvaghy Road right now.

Yep. I see Gerry- I was never in the IRA- Adams is out there among them.

hafig · 27/09/2026 20:23

@hafigit doesn’t take a genius to realise that this one march sets a precedent and before we know it there will be 3500 loyalist thugs marching up the road with their kick the pope bands frightening catholics and non catholics.

And that could happen. I did say I don’t think marching was morally right. But at the minute it’s the green side who are out in force causing the intimidation.

And Colin Duffy…

@hafigif that’s the best you can do then remember this it was agricultural land which belonged to the Irish before it was stolen from them. Your turn
come in I’ve still yet to hear a reasonable adult argument as to why it has to be this road!

JaneJeffer · 27/09/2026 20:24

hafig · 27/09/2026 20:19

Because it’s ridiculous. They aren’t doing any harm, they are just asking down a public road. Do you have a fear of people in general?

No, it’s more specific.

Dumbledora8 · 27/09/2026 20:25

I can't wait for all the bigots to pass on

hafig · 27/09/2026 20:25

Abbybright · 27/09/2026 20:22

It was loyalist paramilitaries, the UVF, in the particular case being referred to.

Yes and not the OO. They are not a proscribed organisation.

Oh give over. The OO marched there in 1807. It’s existed long before NI as a principality did. Sure we will go back to the Vikings. And people call the OO dinosaurs?

If this is an act of pure wickedness 🤦🏻‍♀️ then what was this... https://www.facebook.com/share/r/19ZogRa6kJ/

Also pure wickedness- obviously!
There had been so much progress between them and today, now it’s back to Green vs Orange.
I can’t see any hope in this?!

Abbybright · 27/09/2026 20:35

Nobody who wants peace would try to march this road.

@BobbleBearyou hope it won’t be supported? Can you explain why a Brit living in the south thinks this?

As a woman who abhors all religions equally, ( they’re all intrinsically misogynistic), I find the whole charade of old blokes marching and banging their big penis extension drums, ridiculously outdated and cringe worthy.

DH was brought up as a Scottish Protestant (dad was an Orange man) and he agrees that the whole event is utterly absurd in this day and age.

It’s about time they all bloody well grew up!

Because it was simply ireland. Funny how unionists love citing 'history' when it suits them.

The OO should never have been given consent to do this march, it was a massive failing of the PC and the courts. And the likes of that cretin Carla Lockhart dismissing the will of the actual residents of the road and shaming the protest when only a few weeks ago she stood alongside masked men to object to a peaceful process is rank hypocrisy. And if she had any decency as a politician or any desire for sustained peace instead of dismissing the fears of the residents she would respect them and acknowledge it and concede it is inappropriate. But that's not what wants, of any of them want. They want the fear and intimidation and to deflect from the fact their former leader is a paedophile rapist who they all worshipped.

All ultimately acts of desperation from a group of people trying to hold a country that is very much moving forward in the past.

Not sure why a traditional group who follow their traditions should have to leave that off just because you hate the traditions they stand for.

Because the can't force their traditions against the will of the residents. They can have their marches, the had 2,500 of them last year with no issues. No one is asking them to leave of their traditions but respect the will of the community.

Anonanonanonagain · 27/09/2026 21:05

They have managed without this specific 'tradition' for close to 30 years they could cope with another one but they just won't because they are hate inciting vile old men who think everyone else needs to cowtow to them. Sick bastards the lot of them.

This is the crux of the matter.

Anyone who thinks otherwise needs their head examined.

hafig · 27/09/2026 20:18

It’s a traditional route they have followed from 1807 when it was historically an agricultural area.

Yes, I see what you're saying but it's not an agricultural area anymore and the Orange Order are not a migratory species who can't deviate from a route because of unreasoning instinct - they're not geese heading to warmer climes for the winter or salmon heading back up stream to spawn - they can chose a marching route that is more in line with the current demographics of the area. They can chose to march in an area where the people would be glad to see them, and would appreciate the march, rather than insisting on marching in an area that has no interest or cultural ties to the OO.

If the residents are sitting at home with their feet up watching the telly or whatever else they want to do they wouldn't even notice them marching, would they. Republicans can block the road all they like, but they are doing themselves no favours.

I think Freddie flintstone there from the stone ages is actually sitting in a church right now with too much time on his hands...
