It's on the BBC's Website too:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67512002

I wonder what happened. Was it targeted or random do you think?

It's very upsetting for those who were around these victims when it was happening. The girl and the woman received serious injuries, the others are being treated for less serious injuries.

Richard Chambers has just updated on X (a.k.a. Twitter) that the Gardai are following a definite line of inquiry. They do not suspect any terrorist motivation.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/11/2023 15:42

This is just horrific. I hope nobody is very seriously harmed but regardless the children must have been terrified. Apparently the 'injured man' is the main suspect.

Chickenkeev · 23/11/2023 15:59

This is so horrific. I have a primary aged child and i can't imagine what the parents must be going through. How the hell do you explain this to a little kid? I saw a picture, i think it was of the suspect, but there was a bright pink schoolbag beside him. Awful.

PopcornAndGummyBears · 23/11/2023 16:01

Yes it has become clear that the injured man is the main suspect as justice minister’s quote was about thoughts with the children and woman victims.

It’s also said they were in contact with the parents of the children, so I don’t know that they belonged to/were connected with the woman stabbed or the perpetrator

My first thought was that it was the father, obviously wrongly. Horrific but not uncommon.

Those poor babies.

@Kitanai that was my first thought too - hence why I noticed the comment about being in touch with the parents of the children. I thought it was odd - partly also because it would be unusual for young children to be out in the city centre without their parents.

JFC! This shit boils my piss altogether. There are loads of non irish in Ireland now, so there's every chance he wasn't. Beyond that, what the actual f*ck is your point? That non irish are more homicidal than Irish?

The poor kids and their families.
Passed the junction of O'Connell and Parnell a wee while ago on my way home from work: gang of ghouls standing at the Garda barrier chanting "Get them out". Using this horrible incident to further their agenda, who thinks like that?

If their first thought wasn’t sadness for those poor children but how they can use it for their own purposes…I have no words to describe them.

Who exactly do they want ‘out’?!

AInightingale · 23/11/2023 17:07

I'd imagine the protestors are angry because the migrants are unvetted.

That is your first thought? No concern for the victims? Shame on you. Some of the baying mob on Facebook and Twitter showing similar traits.

It was a despicable act and those poor children will be traumatised. Hopefully they and their families receive the support they will need now and in the future. Tragic. M

FirstFallopians · 23/11/2023 17:38

This has really shaken me.

DH went to Colaiste Mhuire, and I’d walk through this part of the city on my commute into work. Our kids are the same ages as the victims.

The bravery of the lady who stepped in- not some have a go hero, just a normal woman trying to protect some very small children and putting herself in danger as a result.

Hope everyone makes a full recovery and they all get the support they need.

Which is the governments fault. The government WE voted in. You get what you pay for as such. 'Vetting' is a lovely concept, but in reality, it gives no assurances of anything. When i did garda vetting, it was up to me to list my addresses. So easy to leave some out if i wanted. There are plenty of murdering pricks born in Ireland. We can't blame vetting on them. There are just a lot of homicidal maniacs. Nationality doesn't come into it.

honeyrider · 23/11/2023 17:48

As if the gardai and emergency services haven't enough to deal with protesters have been gathering all afternoon and have just broken through police lines but were swiftly moved back outside the cordon.

Tensions are rising so the gardai will have to stay in place for some time.

Apparently they were on their way to after school care.

Chickenkeev · 23/11/2023 17:52

Awful stuff. Seriously, it's a terrible thought to think this can happen. The little pink bag.

EasternStandard · 23/11/2023 17:55

Really awful, so sad for everyone, poor children

Yes to this. It would shake you. And to think it's very small children. I'd like to say it's unfathomable, but it's not. Dunblane, Sandy Hook et al. Never expected to see something like this here though.

Helen McEntee needs to go, she's out of her depth them plays the sexism card if rightly criticised. The nerve of her claiming Dublin's safe while she's walking around with a number of gardai to protect her.

There's too many attacks happening on a daily basis in Dublin that are not being reported. The night before last my son had a lucky escape when a bloke off his head came into his workplace and started to randomly attack customers and staff and tried to gouge the eyes out of one of his victims, he had a bottle in his hand and threatened to hop the counter and glass my DS. Fortunately the last person the scumbag assaulted was an off duty garda who disarmed and arrested him and got the cctv footage in order to prevent him getting out on bail.

I spent a long time in Dublin. Never felt particularly unsafe. It seems to have gone to shit altogether.

Chickenkeev · 23/11/2023 18:08

And yy, Helen McEntee is a fucking joke.

AnImaginaryCat · 23/11/2023 18:19

Apparently there is serious disorder on Parnell now.

People attacking emergency response vehicles. (Think they are home grown though Trace68 so I guess it's not an issue.)
