These people are just using those poor kids as an excuse. There is no justification for attacking the Gardai like that, or blocking the Luas, or setting buses on fire FFS. This is happening right beside the Rotunda, god help any poor woman coming in in labour.

ConflictedCheetah · 23/11/2023 20:00

I'm a Dubliner but not living there anymore and just trying to catch up on what's happened since the original incident.

Who is 'protesting' and now kicking off? What's the connection they're making to what happened? Or is it just racist assumptions that the perpetrator must be foreign? I don't know what sparked the violence.

MrsMarzetti · 23/11/2023 20:00

Alsonification · 23/11/2023 19:07

Can I also just add, god help the gardaí tonight. My brother in law is one of them & im worried for him. It's going to be a scary night.

Hope your BIL and his colleagues end their shift safe and well tonight x

Newmum110 · 23/11/2023 20:05

Nobody talking about the foreign man who helped disarm the attacker. Those who are rioting don't care about the poor victims. Praying for their recovery.

ChimneyPot · 23/11/2023 20:05

Miss93 · 23/11/2023 19:40

Well what's happening today proves otherwise.
There are yobs using this as an excuse to kick off, but Sweden warned us and we didn't listen.

I'm Irish,I live in Dublin actually not too far from Parnell.
But something has to be done.
We can't let unvetted men in,we have to put our own safety first.

That's not being racist, that's just having common sense.

Of course it is racist. Do you want every man in Ireland to be vetted too? Every man visiting Ireland from the US or EU? Does it depend on their skin colour or religion?

youwouldthink · 23/11/2023 20:09

DD is at uni in UCD but lives across town so goes through the area every day. Took her 3 hours to get back to her apartment this evening. Gangs and gangs of idiots blocking roads and the Luas. She had to get off and walk through them and so shaken she has taken the train home to me for the weekend, and was in tears and scared. My sis in law is there as a Guard and we hope she is doing ok as she herself has 2 little girls.
I hope beyond hope these little children and their carer are going to be ok. Such shocking and needless violence...and all credit to those who stepped in to stop him, putting their own safety at risk x

ChimneyPot · 23/11/2023 20:10

i can guess that those setting fire to buses and trams and attacking emergency services in the city centre tonight are Irish. How can we vet them?

AnImaginaryCat · 23/11/2023 20:20

It seems one of the people who stepped in to help the victims wasn't Irish. Is he OK being here? I believe he is a Deilveroo worker. That group that so regularly get attacked by unvetted irish males they staged a protest.(A protest that didn't involve a riot.)

(Helped in the sense that they didn't pull out their phone and start filmimg. I appreciate there will have been people that froze.)

This is shocking. I hope the girls and ladies injured will be ok.

The rent-a-mob take any excuse to create havoc. Nothing they do is ever reasonable. How can it help the situation to attack the guards and emergency workers like this.

Irish people have no right to complain about immigration considering how many of us are spread around the world

JaneJeffer · 23/11/2023 20:32

The amount of trolls on this thread

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/11/2023 20:35

"take in the worlds shit" - nice.

trakehner · 23/11/2023 20:44

Just watched some clips on the news. I just can't believe what I'm seeing. I'd heard things had got rough in parts of Dublin (yet it's more expensive than ever?!) but what on earth has happened there over the past 17 years since I left?! My babies were born in the Rotunda 17-20 years ago, and I have such a wonderful memories of the city and never ever felt unsafe 😭.

My heart goes out to all those injured, their families and also to those risking their own safety in the line of their work out in the city tonight.

pontipinemum · 23/11/2023 20:53

I am genuinely horrified 'these things don't happen in Ireland' I'm afraid to turn on the news.
I really hope the woman and child seriously injured are OK

I’m Irish - a north side Dubliner - but now live in the uk. DS is at Trinity - he was lucky to get home to his accommodation ok just as things were starting to kick off. Trinity is now locked down. They are bringing in beds to put people up in the Library.

My niece works in Henry Street and is stuck. Bloody scary. Trying to figure if she can get over to my DS safely.

PopcornAndGummyBears · 23/11/2023 21:03

DS has just sent me some videos that local friends of his have been sent - they are chilling. The most chilling of all is a voice message going around telling people to congregate in the city centre and kill any foreigner they see - utterly horrifying.

We’re driving down tomorrow to pick DS up to bring him home for the weekend (not because of this, but because of an injury and the need for a bit of home care from mum and dad) and he’s just sent me a message asking me to be really careful driving into the city tomorrow. He’s safe out in south Dublin on campus, but he’s anxious. Most of his friends are locals and they’re all holed up at home freaking out tonight

I’ve reported your post, hope it will be deleted.

SharpRose · 23/11/2023 21:05

Does anyone know if the little girl and everyone else is okay 🥺 🙏 praying for them all, it's absolutely horrific what's happened

ColleenDonaghy · 23/11/2023 21:06

Absolutely shameful. Could there be anything more hypocritical than an Irish protest against migration.

Decorhate · 23/11/2023 21:11

The stabbings were dreadful but the rioting tonight is insane. Family members are being told to work from
home tomorrow. I hope they catch the perpetrators & it’s a wake up call to the government that the city centre is become a no-go area. After the assaults on tourists during the summer too.

babbygabby · 23/11/2023 21:16

I remember the 06 riots as was inadvertently caught up in them, the Daily Mail didn’t mention them at all though!

Hollyhobbi · 23/11/2023 21:17

Mumsnet can you take down my post about the army. Just saw on RTE that the army thing is not from today but a routine exercise some other time!

and how would you deal with the unvetted people entering the country via birth canals and caeserian sections? at what stage should they be vetted? because any one of them could turn out to be a psycho?

I suggest we set up immigration security check in all maternity wards. get them early... while they are still in nappies. some of the babies really look like they are planning something....

Wakemeuuuup · 23/11/2023 21:22

@Hollyhobbi thanks for that. I've reported your post so hopefully they'll take it down soon.

I can't believe what I'm seeing now. Can't believe it's happening on the streets of Dublin. Stay safe everyone
