Gender Critical in Ireland Part 3

VaddaABeetch · 03/04/2023 13:07

I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

If he cares about trans people in Ireland, the good doctor should be tweeting about that cycling race and explaining why it's not a problem for women athletes.

Craicmehole · 13/06/2023 08:50

@bellinisurge It was posted on the sex & feminism section. Only Gript in Ireland have reported on it. It's disgusting.
Panti actually hadn't a breeze what he was tweeting about. The comments are putting him right!

bellinisurge · 13/06/2023 09:39

You'd think that RTÉ would be all over an exciting cycling race where there is such an amazing female athlete streets (actually whole towns) ahead of the field which will make her an international contender.... no, wait..

elgreco · 13/06/2023 09:42

My 12 yo son had his sex education talk recently. You will be relieved, as I was, to know that it was all about biology and consent and any attempts to ask questions re gender identity were not answered as they were not on the agenda. Some irish schools not entirely captured.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/06/2023 10:03

Is Panti Bliss a transwoman now?? And is he British? He makes my blood boil his distaste for women is so glaringly obvious. At least the British are discussing things properly and have kept sex as a protected characteristic. I wish more people here knew that our Equality Act has been amended and the repercussions that has for women and girls in Ireland. By the time people wake up it will be too late Sad

@elgreco that is indeed good to hear. I am constantly surprised (and disappointed) by the amount of institutions that have been captured.

Abhannmor · 13/06/2023 11:05

Brilliant posts @StephanieSuperpowers !

Panti pasted on Twitter @Craicmehole !

Yes @bellinisurge it seems a bit churlish of RTÉ and the Irish media to ignore the achievements of this fabbalas 'woman' cyclist. She is said to be nearly 300km ahead of the other women. Its only 260km from Dublin to Cork. Surely O Connell St will be packed like when yer man Stephen Roche won the Tour de France?

Craicmehole · 13/06/2023 12:59

@Abhannmor & rightly so! Panti's completely spreading misinformation!

@Abhannmor & rightly so! Panti's completely spreading misinformation!

I think it has the whiff of panic about it. He is desperate to stay relevant whereas he is becoming desperately passé.

Craicmehole · 13/06/2023 13:29

@Abhannmor but tweeting lies & misinformation like that is not helping the transgender community whatsoever! They are now suffering the backlash because of him. That's not advocating for the trans community is the opposite.
But yes if he needs to tweet lies & miss information to get a few retweets he's definitely in a panic to stay somewhat relevant!

RedLem0nade · 13/06/2023 14:43

300km! That cyclist will cross the finish line waaaay before anyone else. People will need to go off for lunch and come back for the other competitors. Why, it’s almost as if said cyclist is in a completely different category somehow….

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 19/06/2023 19:48

FFS I've just watched a video by the editor of Gript talking about how The Journal ran a "fact check" on their article about the transwoman cyclist and deemed it to be untrue - they said it wasn't a "race" and there are no gender categories (it is and there are 🙄) And on the back of that, Facebook took down any links or mention of the Gript article as it was "spreading disinformation"

The vast majority of people get their news and form opinions based on news in mainstream media. How are people ever going to become aware of what's happening in Ireland if there's no reporting of it and the few places that do report it are then called out as untrue??

3timeslucky · 19/06/2023 22:52

The Journal. Fact checking. Hmm.

Abhannmor · 20/06/2023 00:33

Yea the Journal. Handful of wokeydokes I expect. Journalists enforcing censort sets a very dangerous precedent?

MaeveofConnaught · 20/06/2023 09:01

3timeslucky · 19/06/2023 22:52

The Journal. Fact checking. Hmm.

I wonder who did the fact checking? Aoife Martin?

elgreco · 20/06/2023 19:10

Probably

Believerinbiology · 20/06/2023 21:46

Sad to see Sporting Ireland seem to be supportive of the destruction of women's sports. They have a joint campaign with Sporting Pride called Let's Get Visible. The promo poster shows lots of headshots of various sports people, a few men in drag and Joanna Harper, a transwoman( ie biological male), whose flawed (and definitely unbiased) research somehow convinced the ioc to allow men to compete as women. Joanna's follow up research despite what they wanted it to show, unsurprisingly showed males retain an advantage even after testosterone suppression. Joanna has many speaking engagements saying why women should allow him and other males our sports. Having Joanna feature prominently in this campaign is a huge fu to women and girls... Joannas not even Irish to warrant inclusion but maybe Joanna identifies as Irish.

elgreco · 21/06/2023 07:48

What is wrong with people? It's so fucking stupid and unfair.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 21/06/2023 11:05

I'm concerned about the impending changes to the law regarding hate speech and how this will affect those of us with gender critical opinions.

Hate speech is "relating to the prohibition of incitement to violence or hatred against a person or a group of persons on account of certain characteristics (referred to as protected characteristics) of the person or the group of persons" - since gender is now a protected characteristic I'm presuming that means those of us who say "TWANW" could be accused of hate speech? I mean, it's not inciteful to say they're not, but a lot of TRAs think it is.

Is this correct? Apologies if this has already been discussed on the thread before.

I'm also worried about this, and I think if most people saw what the actual wording of the legislation was ,and what the legal implications were they would be horrified too.

Imagine committing a crime by not wanting to lie...how does that make sense? In effect we are being forced to lie to avoid prosecution.
Nobody is exempt from being offended sometimes - yes of course we need to protect against genuine discrimination, but disagreeing with someone's belief system (like gender ideology) does not make you hateful.

It's worrying because the media and government are playing this like it's liberal and progressive and anyone who questions it is a monster. It'a actually really authoritarian.

Unfortunately I think this will get worse before it gets better in Ireland. We are not even at the same stage of proper discussion like in the UK is, our media and government have basically shored this up and will not brook any dissent. I think it will take some legal challenges, or for a case to go through the court for the general population to really see what's really happening. Strange times.

StephanieSuperpowers · 21/06/2023 12:08

He's not usually so timid.

Farmageddon · 21/06/2023 12:23

Unfortunately, I can't read the article, but here is a link to a recent open letter he sent to Simon Harris on the issue, presumably flagging the same concerns.

https://www.michaelmcdowell.ie/clarification-sought-on-incitement-to-hate-offences-bill.html

At least there is one voice of reason floating about government buildings.
I intend to email him and thank him for raising the issue.

Villagetoraiseachild · 21/06/2023 19:20

@elgreco , it's not a level playing field and the goalposts keep getting moved.

jonnytightlips · 26/06/2023 18:35

I would love to know what's going through Leo's head here...does wokeness override his medical training 🤔

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/06/2023 19:44

It's becoming farcical now (hopefully!) and as someone with actual medical training he must surely be embarrassed? Also - 9 genders?? I thought there were 99! Regina needs to work on her wokeness 🙄
