I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

This is from The Countess site:

"We are launching our latest Countess Campaign.
The Gender Recognition (Amendment) (Prisons) Bill 2023, drafted by Laoise de Brún BL and introduced to the Dáil by Peadar Tóibín TD, will remove men from women's prisons and ensure prisons are single sex.

We are the first GC campaign group that we know of worldwide in a self ID jurisdiction that has drafted an amendment to gender self ID law in order to exclude prisons from the scope.

We are calling on you, our followers and supporters, to help us force this debate. A debate that never happened in Ireland. Phone and email your TDs and ask them to support and sign this Bill before the summer recess on 17th July."

I have emailed all the TDs in my county. Please do the same.

Irrationally annoyed by this bollox - they already have all the laws in their favour, and still they're complaining! As for 'trans healthcare', I'm guessing that means unlimited access to surgery and hormones for all the kiddies...

I would love to talk to these young women protesting in 10 years time and see if they still defend this shit.

HSE have updated their maternity/breast feeding on work life balance circular from woman to woman or other person.

Dublincailin · 23/07/2023 14:33

To accommodate Transmen who give birth.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 23/07/2023 18:39

I'd love to know the stats on this. How many transmen have given birth in Ireland each year over the last ten years? I can't fathom spending all this money on rewriting and printing material and then "educating" staff etc. for what must be a tiny number of cases. Or else I'm living under a rock and the figures are significant?

Dublincailin · 24/07/2023 07:32

I'm ready to be educated but if you identify as a man, why would you want be pregnant?

Pregnancy and birth are exclusively female if you want to be a man why would a trans man want embrace womanhood only experience of pregnancy? They don't want to be a woman or known as a woman

They do understand Arnie was not pregnant, Junior was a film, a fantasy men cannot give birth.

Dublincailin · 24/07/2023 07:39

@LifeInAHamsterWheel

I would love to know the stats for both, and I would also like to know if tran men after maternity leave can qualify for Paternity leave fully paid also.

Also want the stats on how many trans men availed of Brest feeding accommodations?

I cannot send in an FOI, I'm too close and my views are known and not acknowledged.

Was there a gender question in the Census last year? If so, that might give us a hint.

No there wasn't iirc. TRAs were helpfully going to lie about their sex. We need questions in both sex and gender identity to get meaningful data. No doubt there'll be something next time but Christ knows how they'll end up phrasing it.

VaddaABeetch · 03/08/2023 17:07

Barbie Kardashian has been moved to a men’s prison. Well done to the Countess.

I'd say O'Gorman and McEntee are doing an interdepartmental struggle session right now.

3timeslucky · 03/08/2023 17:16

Who d'you reckon they're struggling with? (Clearly not their own consciences since neither appears to have one!)

I'd love to know the inside story on the machinations that led to this. Is he the easy case as he's so uncontrollable and dangerous? What about other men there, or in future?

While this is good news, it'd be much better news if it was a policy change.

VaddaABeetch · 03/08/2023 17:22

The tide is turning. Irish women are not to be silenced & fobbed off.

It has dawned on them that even if they manage to push the referendums through with only three weeks lead-in, there will be public debate, and they want to tidy up any loose ends they can.

Though I hope their three weeks lead-in bollox gets turned down as illegal.

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 03/08/2023 18:50

That’s great news! Is it being properly reported on? Have the journal finally admitted BK isn’t a woman??!!
also what referendum is this as haven’t heard anything 😐

elgreco · 03/08/2023 19:00

Good news but it should not have happened in the first place.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 03/08/2023 19:15

RTE radio news had a very brief report last week some time that THREE referendums are due in the autumn - the one to remove women's right to a life in the home, the one on gender, and another one that knowing this government will probably also remove something, and that they intended to have all three on the same ballot paper and with minimal (three week) debate time. They said there was likely to be some legal challenge to that.

No further reports, nothing on the discussion programmes, and nothing on their website, so presumably an angry comandment got handed down from planet Dail telling them to stop telling the public anything.

Yes it seems there will be very little public debate time given to these - almost like they don't want people to ask questions or anything. I was hoping it would be a chance for politicians to have to answer some difficult questions but I think they are going to hide under their desks until it is over.

Hopefully they one won't pass, and people actually take time to look at the wording that comes up.

I have a sneaky feeling the govt thinks this is all going to sail through, that's how arrogant they are and how little they think of us.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/08/2023 09:06

Well unfortunately it did all sail through last time so I won't be surprised (although very disappointed) if it happens again.

Delighted to hear about BK and so grateful for the fantastic work done by Laoise and others.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 04/08/2023 11:21

We've never had a referendum that touched on the question of gender, and we've never had anything like the wholesale removal of women's right to a life in the home.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/08/2023 12:52

@DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry we did! Back in 2015 when we voted for gay marriage the issue of self ID was an additional question on that referendum and we (unwittingly I feel) voted for it. On the back of that, our government enacted the Gender Recognition Act and this means that we have self ID now. We are lauded as the leading light in the EU for this! We then changed the wording of our Equality Act, removed sex as a protected characteristic and replaced it with gender. All without there being any meaningful public debate or information (well I certainly don't remember anything about that referendum other than the gay marriage topic!)

I'm not surprised you don't know this. An awful lot of people don't. And so here we are Sad

3timeslucky · 04/08/2023 13:02

There was not a question on self ID. Absolutely 100% not. It was legislation we had NO say on.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/08/2023 13:31

I thought there was a vague question on it? But I have no clear memory. I know that it was on the back of that referendum that the Gender Recognition Act was passed and that Denton's report for trans activists mentioned Ireland as being a great example of how to piggy-back the issue onto a referendum that you know is likely to be passed. Either way, we were given no information on it and there was no debate. And most people don't know anything about it.
