Gender Critical in Ireland Part 3

VaddaABeetch · 03/04/2023 13:07

I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Yeah. It's very worrying. Best case, he didn't understand what he was saying. Worst case, this apparent nothingburger of a change is very important to him for reasons we don't know yet.

MarieDeGournay · 11/02/2024 10:57

Oops I didn't mean my light-headed post responding to Abhannmor's witty suggested constitutional change to appear slap bang in the middle of two serious posts about NGOs being bullied..
That is very serious issue, and I wish my post had been better placed!

Sadly I think it's the latter. So worried for my daughters future in this country. The National Women's Council lobbying for a yes vote is beyond disgusting. The government, education system, Ngos are all extremely anti women & getting worse.

Dublincailin · 11/02/2024 11:34

I agree, this referendum is the gateway to something else. The clause re mothers is blocking the bigger plan.

Although anything they are hoping to force through would need to be this year as election next year,

Very conspiracy theory I know but ROD does not support or even like women.

VoteNONO · 11/02/2024 11:37

@Dublincailin exactly. What is wrong with women, can't they open their eyes! Mother is obviously a trigger word & considered offensive so it needs to be banished. What does that mean for child benefit & sahm though?

Abhannmor · 11/02/2024 12:57

MarieDeGournay · 11/02/2024 10:38

Abhannmor Imagine if Roddy x co wrote an amendment saying ' Henceforth all women will live their best lives consisting of education , travel , artistic pursuits, romance and untold wealth. Don't worry about children, they will in future be produced by the Sí at Brú na Boinne and allocated by the Sorting Hat'

Brilliant, Abhannmor! Please rewrite our entire constitution😊

Only problem: so all babies would be qualified to play Gaelic for Meath? Mightn't that result in one team dominating Sam ....no, sorry, forget I ever mentioned that.

Hadn't thought of the gaa factor. Babies would have to be allocated likewise I suppose? Perhaps Meath could be a separate province again. Decisions Decisions....

elgreco · 11/02/2024 14:16

Let's not forget that the irish government took a YES vote for same sex marriage as tacit agreement to introduce self ID. That was a massive stretch.

What will a vote to remove the word mother stretch to?

Farmageddon · 11/02/2024 15:03

I really hope this doesn't pass, this smug shower of arseholes have no interest in protecting women, and I don't know exactly what they're up to but it's dodgy as fuck.
Incidentally, I don't think there will be a big turnout, many people I've talked to aren't bothered about it, think it's a waste of time. And nobody can say much about what it will actually change, so many don't see the point in it.

Believerinbiology · 11/02/2024 15:17

That's the problem though...as so many don't care or haven't thought about it there's a real danger of it getting through. The yes side will turn out and I fear the don't cares but who always vote will vote yes because of how it's being framed as progressive.

Dishwasherdisaster · 11/02/2024 16:14

I'm worried about this too @Believerinbiology . Didn’t the Irish Times poll show that most said they'd vote yes?
Also that most hadn't thought about it much and that the more informed voters were tending to vote no.

It would be so annoying to blindly change the Constitution just because enough people haven't thought it through.

RosesInWater · 11/02/2024 16:39

Durable relationships for ROG could mean expanding the numbers who can relocate here under the family reunification of successful asylum seekers.

Bear with me and don't blame me, but when you think about ROG and his so well thought out and planned welcome for limitless IP applicants and texting the world and its mother that they will get their "own door" house within four months of arrival, I am so fkn suspicious of his motives. I really don't trust that man who is more Woke than a Red Bull can.

Removing women (which they haven't defined despite self ID either) from this article of the Constitution is to me a further erasure of biological women, another reason I don't trust him at all. And the wording of the amendment is not the same as that proposed by the Citizen's Assembly either. But is that group totally independent of Government?, I don't think so as the Gov can appoint members AFAIK, so the moles can burrow in.

Well in the end, the premise behind the proposal is woolly, vague and open to interpretation not by the legislature but by the courts. Red flag to me. Define Durable Relationships and I'll consider what you mean. If you don't tell me I can't and won't.

3timeslucky · 11/02/2024 16:44

I don't think ROG has a reunification plan in mind. I don't think he knows what he has in mind. And that's precisely why he has no way of knowing what the intended or unintended consequences will be. Not just him, the govt as a whole. And if they don't know, we don't know.

VaddaABeetch · 11/02/2024 17:28

I was canvassing for No/No yesterday. People are not buying this. Most are suspicious of the Govt motivations

This proposed amendment coupled with the Hate Speech laws currently on the agenda make me afraid, very afraid. And I'm not one for dramatics usually.

I agree, they seem hell bent on shoving this stuff down people's throats, even though it's very unpopular.

What I don't get is, it seems very much engineered from the top down - it's not like voters are clamouring for this stuff. Which is in stark contrast to the abortion and marriage referendums. I wonder who they are getting their advice from.

Worrying indeed.

I'm sick of saying "if in doubt, if you don't understand, just vote No!".. There is definitely something sinister behind it. There's been no leaflets in the door or anything, they want a small turn out & it will mostly be ones who passionately want the word mother out of the constitution 🙄 What are the odds of the yes vote winning?

VoteNONO · 11/02/2024 22:19

It's frightening tbh.

Hit the nail on the head!
Just out of sheer ignorance on my part how many times is man or men of father mentioned in the constitution? Should there not be a referendum removing them too?
Why are women so offensive to these men (& women!!) in power that they have to wipe us out of the history books?
Why are they so threatened by the word mother?

I dread the reasons they are pushing this, I really do.
After reading this statement from Michael McDowell, what are they hiding from us??

@VoteNONO

Do you honestly expect to see anything on RTE, they are government controlled.

Especially now after recent events, they will toe the party line.

VoteNONO · 14/02/2024 09:40

@Dublincailin not a hope. Especially as the govt are bailing them out.. Now the Toyshow Musical fiasco too.. Rte is just a government propoganda soapbox & it censors anything that may let the Irish people form their own opinions.

I wouldn't worry too much about RTE censoring stuff to please the government, allegedly. There are plenty of 'our own opinions' in Ireland, and many and varied other sources of verifiable information to enable us to form those opinions.
Seeing the current state of RTE, exercising control over the opinions of the Irish people seems waaaaaay beyond their capabilities 😏
