Gender Critical in Ireland Part 3

VaddaABeetch · 03/04/2023 13:07

I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

@Abhannmor thank you..

Irish Central have just published an article seeking CLRG the governing bodies support.. They obviously already support the child as it competed in the girls section & won. Had previously been 11th in the boys..

Trans Irish dancers and allies seek CLRG's support in open letter amid backlash

The "Support Transgender Irish Dancers" petition was launched as a trans teen is subjected to backlash for winning her Oireachtas this month.

Woman's Hour discussion on the Amendment to the Constitution. Ailbhe Smyth waffling on now in favour of erasing women from it.

The previous speaker , Laura ( didn't get her surname) was very good.

Greyheart1 · 14/12/2023 11:16

@Abhannmor my husband is very blasé. I keep saying to him if this current government really want something like they do with this change we need to vote against as their is obviously a more sinister agenda lurking underneath

StephanieSuperpowers · 14/12/2023 11:40

It's a government who has put violent sex offenders in a women's prison. So if anyone imagines they're doing anything for the benefit of women...

Yes, exactly - they don't have a great track record of giving a shit about women generally, so I'm sceptical this is actually for our benefit. Holding the referendum on International Women's Day is just a distraction.

I have my suspicions this whole thing is just a way for them to insert the concept of 'gender' into the constitution to appease certain groups and shore up the bullshit GRA.

I will be voting no.

It's interesting how many of us don't trust the government. I wouldn't believe them if they said the sky was blue these days....

Greyheart1 · 14/12/2023 11:58

@Farmageddon I have zero trust in the government & the media. If the government want something badly (as it's obvious they want this change!) it is not for the greater good off ALL of us.
At this stage I will vote directly opposite to what they are pushing. Next election will be interesting, looks like the independents are the only option..

Crunchingleaf · 14/12/2023 12:01

Honestly, at this stage it doesn’t matter what a referendum is about. I do not trust the current coalition and will vote against any referendums they put forward. They are not a popular government in any way.

Farmageddon · 14/12/2023 12:06

Also (happy to be corrected), I don't understand how exactly this change in wording would benefit women in any meaningful way? Like, if the referendum passes - what actual beneficial changes would women see in our day to day lives? What is the point of it?

Greyheart1 · 14/12/2023 12:08

@Farmageddon it's another way of weakening women's position in a supposedly equal democracy.. But even more importantly appeasing the entitled, outspoken women hating minority (who want to be women themselves 🙄)

honeyrider · 14/12/2023 14:21

I'll be voting no.

Abhannmor · 14/12/2023 14:51

It is quite a difficult one to argue. The part about expanding the definition of a family is fine . Lots of single parents, gay parents etc.
The other part is problematic. But Smyth and the rest of the GI crowd will just use a simple message and put it on repeat.

'Why should women be confined to the home? Ireland is a Liberal progressive society now. Its not 1956. Blah blah'

All true - but completely irrelevant. Looked at from the other end of the telescope , the state would collapse without the , mainly unpaid , Labour of women in the home. And this is the only mention of women in the Constitution.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 14/12/2023 15:05

If they had simply expanded the wording to 'women and men' I'd be all for it - acknowledgment of the importance of a home life, and that having one comes with duties. And that that applies to men as well as to women. Hooray.

But they couldn't do that. People might start to want homes to live in.

StephanieSuperpowers · 14/12/2023 15:23

Brenda Power spoke about it on Newstalk, and I largely agree with her. Changing this just makes who does this work invisible, it doesn't equalise the actual work.

Greyheart1 · 14/12/2023 15:36

It's just another way to erase women from society. They find the word woman offensive. And women in general offensive so they want to erase the word where they can & have to audacity to ask us woman to vote on it!

StephanieSuperpowers · 14/12/2023 20:02

So according to Colette Colfer, prime time is going to be protested by 8 men in wigs, Paul Murphy and other assorted weirdos tonight, for have the sheer nerve to do an unapproved broadcast. Prime Time, 9.35

VaddaABeetch · 14/12/2023 20:15

Hopefully Niamh Ni whatever will peak some people. I hope it’s pointed out that Niamh is not a medical doctor

There will be medical doctors. Not the ones the protesters like though. 😥

Greyheart1 · 14/12/2023 20:32

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure if my blood pressure could take it 😠

Greyheart1 · 14/12/2023 20:43

@Genesis1v27 shocked at that RTE article. Yes it is good that Prime Time are showing it. RTE obviously know the mood in the nation, they need the viewers so they will have to air what the people want?

VaddaABeetch · 14/12/2023 22:57

Very surprised & delighted at Primetime. some very clear language. Real experts like Donal O’ Shea. Still some assigned at birth & living as a woman.

loved yer man comparing a child going on cross sex hormones ac being the same ad picking a language or musical instrument to learn.
