I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Niamh O not Ní.

StephanieSuperpowers · 15/12/2023 09:42

Must say, I feel a little teary this morning. The relief of having any part of this discussed sensibly, in public, is immense.

Greyheart1 · 15/12/2023 10:01

@StephanieSuperpowers & on RTE!

StephanieSuperpowers · 15/12/2023 10:06

Exactly. Everyone in the country now knows the depth of what's been going on and at the behest of people who won't answer for it, apart from that Niamh person who really showed how far from reality they are.

Greyheart1 · 15/12/2023 10:20

@StephanieSuperpowers with the backlash against RTÉ they have to start airing the truth. The dogs on the street know the government control the media, propoganda & censorship at it's finest. The article posted by RTE & Prime Times coverage is a massive step in the right direction. But the have to because the public are no longer being fooled.

Yes, it's quite something to finally see this getting proper airtime - the media in this country have shamefully stayed quiet on this issue for the last few years.

MarieDeGournay · 15/12/2023 11:15

I didn't watch the programme, sometimes I just can't cope with all that antiscientific, irrational, misogynistic trans guff, and last night was one of those times. I'm glad there was some openness and balance.
I wonder are some of our politicians beginning to think they legislated in haste after the marriage equality referendum, and are now repenting at leisure as the trans arguments are picked apart and the successful legal challenges in the UK - Forstater, Bailey et al.- are adding up.
TD S who originally opposed, or were on the fence about gay marriage, probably bought into trans demands so as not to appear reactionary, but now the 'right side of history' is turning out to be the wrong side of scientific fact and social justice. What can they do now, apart from bluster about most marginalized etc, or hide? Snookered, or checkmate, depending on your sport.

Niamh O not Ní.

Yes of course. Took me a while to catch your drift!

Ps why do these chancers always have a mangled Gaeilge name?

MarieDeGournay · 15/12/2023 12:17

I'm surprised they haven't found something Two-Spirit-ish in Celtic history to go with the names as Gaeilge!

StephanieSuperpowers · 15/12/2023 12:31

It's how genuine they are in all ways.

elgreco · 15/12/2023 13:29

They must love the gender aspect of some irish surnames "as gaeilge".

Don't think the rest of their surname is accurate either. It's very weird.

Believerinbiology · 15/12/2023 13:46

Glad to see this getting attention and the doctors sticking to their principles which must be hard with the thinly veiled threats (data breach) for speaking up. Just hope somebody with power actually listens to them. The more TRAs are allowed to argue their case in public, the more their lack of evidence/safe-guarding/rational thought can be seen.

The name thing is awful as ever....very rare to see a unisex name or a bog-standard "boring"name picked. Instead you get the pornstar names (eg Paris Lees) or the forced feminine. What's it meant to mean?...daughter of self is the only translation that springs to mind.

3timeslucky · 15/12/2023 14:44

I assume they make up an Irish version of their name to make themselves as unrecognisable as possible from the person they are. An additional layer of pretending. Though of course no amount of name change impacts on biology and what we see and hear.

Abhannmor · 15/12/2023 15:34

I think it might be a stab at the original Irish for Feeney - O Fianaidh. But spelled incorrectly and using the female form Ní.

But who knows ?

VaddaABeetch · 15/12/2023 15:53

Or Fanny?

Amadhain Ni Grifter, this is my new name.

OP posts:
PillowQuilt · 15/12/2023 15:59

Yep, it's Feeney. He did some work for the Abortion Rights Campaign back in the day. Let's just say, no background whatsoever in anything health related and a very odd choice of spokesperson.

bellinisurge · 16/12/2023 13:18

Amadhain Ni Grifter is genius

Abhannmor · 16/12/2023 14:38

The scarey thing is Amadhain ni Grifter and his like seem to have the ear of the government and NGOs. Probably because they are genuinely clueless and need some spin merchant to tell them what to say.

In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king etc.

Gwan Dunnes ya good things☺
But aren't they the weirdest male/female symbols you've ever seen??

Abhannmor · 20/12/2023 10:58

They are! Very strange little figures entirely. No ambiguity in the written sign though.

Fubbs · 20/12/2023 12:41

Holland and Barrett send an email about menopause - the word WOMAN used throughout! Breathtakingly clear, well done them!

Fubbs · 20/12/2023 13:03

Just emailed my TDs asking them to support the bill to keep men out of women's prisons in Ireland, I'm on a roll today!!
