Also delighted to read that Graham Dwyer has had his appeal dismissed Smile

Me too.

Oh good. The evil bastard. I hadn't heard.

eggandonion · 24/03/2023 15:54

We have one toilet in work. I work with 2 men. If I can't wait I use it. Otherwise I nip to the shopping centre on the way home.

So happy (and relieved) to hear this on the radio this evening.

Evil depraved man.

His poor wife and kids.

You really shouldn't have to nip to the shopping centre on the way home.
I bet your male colleagues don't.

eggandonion · 24/03/2023 18:40

Im certain that the men don't nip to a supermarket. Their anatomy is handy.
Graham Dwyer was horrible but how crafty. His wife seemed to genuinely have zero idea. Technical and scientific advances are great in detecting crime. Wasn't elaine identified by her dunnes card.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 24/03/2023 21:38

I hope I don't sound disrespectful to Elaine or her family, but I found the whole case fascinating from the way it was discovered and how the evidence unfolded etc. From what I recall it was pure luck that the Garda noticed the bag in the reservoir because it's never usually that shallow and even if it was, if it had been anyone else (other than a Garda) they might have just left it. I think up to that point Elaine's death had been considered a suicide and no investigation had happened at all? A family friend was a detective on the case and I remember him saying at the time that GD was an absolute prick he was gloating to them how they'd never get enough to stick on him etc. Such an ego! I'd love to read a detailed account of it now, I must look to see if there's been any book written about it.

JaneJeffer · 24/03/2023 21:43

I'm sure there is a book @LifeInAHamsterWheel

eggandonion · 25/03/2023 00:00

I think a young guatd found the bag and they identified the owner from the loyalty card. A dog walker found remains elsewhere.
How did he work, have family life, have his model planes and his nasty life though. And seem so ordinary.

Taytocrisps · 25/03/2023 11:24

I thought I'd gone back in time when I checked the news headlines early this morning. Both Annie McCarrick and the Kerry Babies featured as main stories.

Agree, very good news about Graham Dwyer.

SparkyBlue · 25/03/2023 12:25

I read a book about the Kerry babies case a few years ago. I must dig it out from my mothers house. The whole thing was awful

How is right?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/03/2023 21:11

I had a look and there is indeed a book. Written by Paul Williams who I'm not mad about but to be fair the reviews are brilliant so I might have to put my prejudices aside and buy it! It's so true that fact is stranger than fiction.

It would be great if the cold cases could be solved. Although the 2 people arrested in the Kerry Babies case have been released without charge.

LadyEloise1 · 29/03/2023 20:11

I just read on the RTE News app that a man who downloaded more than 4000 videos and images of child pornography got a suspended sentence.
The children were aged between 3 and 15.
A suspended sentence.
I give up. 🥲

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/03/2023 20:17

God that's sickening and desperately sad 😞
It wasn't Judge Nolan was it?

LadyEloise1 · 29/03/2023 20:44

How did you guess !

halfpasteleven · 29/03/2023 22:01

Where is the justice in that?
Sometimes I really despair, I really really do.

The end

Good riddance. May we never see the likes of it again 🤞

JaneJeffer · 31/03/2023 13:21

Amen

eggandonion · 31/03/2023 13:22

Im actually uncertain how i feel about this! Dr Tony is writing his memoirs and Cillian is now not doing smears properly. There is a new hse man. All those medical people who were part of my life have gone!
I have a stock of masks ant a few antigen kits. If i never need a covid booster again I'm delighted.
It has been a strange 3 years. Two years meshed into one in my head.

JaneJeffer · 31/03/2023 13:33

I think of the first part of lockdown fondly when I naively thought everything would be back to normal after Easter and we had that lovely weather. It all went downhill after that!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 31/03/2023 13:34

Yes. Two years blended into one sums it up for me too. Covid feels like a black hole in our lives. Lost time. I heard Luke O'Neill saying that you don't have to report flu, so why would you have to report Covid? That's a real turnaround. But to mind yourself if you are vulnerable. It's still tough for people who are compromised and need to try and avoid getting sick. End of an era for most people.

eggandonion · 31/03/2023 14:05

I know a lot of people try to go to work with a bit of a cold. I do and so do my family and colleagues. I know we aren't supposed to. But so many jobs in health retail education cant be done from home.
Hopefully the weather will pick up and we can enjoy all the al fresco cafes.

maimeo · 31/03/2023 18:48

I have Covid at the moment, as does my DH. We've both been quite unwell and are still breathless and exhausted. I have missed several things this week and won't be at my god daughters hen party on Sat. Her best friend is organizing it, and is absolutely baffled as to why I won't go. I'll only be on Day 5 and will still be testing negative. It was passed to me, and four others, by a friend who knew she had it but didn't stay at home. I'd hate to do the same to someone else at the weekend. But I think it's a generational thing, the youngsters don't care any more because it "just a cold".
