Totally agree with @LadyEloise1 and it's sad to see how much it's declined. I rarely go near Dublin City but I worry about my teens as they get older and might want to go there. Someone used the word 'menace' and that's it exactly - gangs of youths going around making everyone fearful, causing trouble on the Dart and Luas, it's awful. Add to that the open drug abuse and homeless and begging etc. it's just depressing Sad I have no idea how they'll fix it but surely there are cities around the world that have managed to improve things and we could copy what they've done?!

I think I might have to get one of those special lights that combat SAD. I am really struggling with the dark mornings now, and we're only starting into Winter!

I have to agree especially with the new driving rules from last night. ALL about collecting the money.

I was hoping that road safety came into it. I think some people are complacent on the use of mobile phones and young children and seat belts. I also see the occasional small dog on the driver's knee.

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 27/10/2022 10:21

Oh I agree they are so it should be more penalty points or a ban or something but it just seems to be about getting more money in.

LadyEloise1 · 27/10/2022 11:52

Years ago Pat Kenny called out one particular checkpoint as "shooting fish in a barrel".
I am all for road safety - 60kph on a dual carriageway and 100 kph on rural backroads is nuts.

BiddyPop · 27/10/2022 12:00

Minister Naughten was on radio (this morning I think?) and was asked about increased policing for the strategy, or even just back to regular levels of policing on roads - but ducked the question even when it was repeated. "Not my Department"...

Have barely seen a Guard doing anything on the roads for the past year, and really really bad behaviours have snuck back in so many places.

honeyrider · 27/10/2022 14:34

I live in a city suburb and most days I'm doing a school run the speed van is parked in a bus stop/lay-by. It usually moves to a parallel road for a while too. In the 25+ years I'm living here there hasn't been lose of life from a traffic accident there so it's all down to revenue collection.

honeyrider · 27/10/2022 14:35

In my area I would see the gardai out and about on the roads too.

eggandonion · 27/10/2022 17:07

The dogs learning to drive are distracting.
I see a potential traffic accident about once a week walking my dog. (He doesn't drive). Speed, dangerous overtaking, turning at a red light when green man is on. Not to mention people who wander across roads without looking. Getting out of cars and walking a bit would be good for traffic guards.

egg 😅

LadyEloise1 · 27/10/2022 21:45

@honeyrider
It's the same in my area.
Just nuts.
Revenue collecting.

Looks like it will be a very wet day tomorrow. Not good news for the trick or treaters.

Boo! The one day in the year when you really want it to be dry.

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 30/10/2022 19:26

Excellent news as we hate opening the door here lol We are off to a party later too but inside thankfully.

eggandonion · 31/10/2022 20:03

Extreme wet weather means i have a lot of fun size goodies to work through! My kids would have insisted on going out in the rain, children today....

Taytocrisps · 31/10/2022 20:08

I made up about 70 bags and we're down to 7 now. Hopefully the last few go. A lot of parents out with umbrellas.

AnnieJ1985 · 31/10/2022 20:19

It has stayed dry here. We had a good few callers from around 6pm, until about 45 mins ago. I decided to shut up shop at 8, still have a good amount of goodies left, so will send it into work with DH tomorrow.

Bangers and fireworks still going strong so I have one sleeping dog and one who is very agitated by it all.

Hoping they finish soon so we can all settle down for the night

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 31/10/2022 20:23

It was busy here too for a while earlier. Not too many treats left over now. Thankfully it cleared up before my DD and friend went out because they were going anyway whatever the weather! It was pelting down all day long. There's to be stormy weather on Wednesday apparently!

JaneJeffer · 31/10/2022 21:00

Not a one here!

It’s dire.

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 31/10/2022 23:00

Fuming that I put first dates on record only for it to be an old series.

JaneJeffer · 31/10/2022 23:35

@Igglepiggleslittletoe RTÉ repeat everything ad infinitum
