Does anyone know what books they use in primary school for Irish these days? My DS is going into second class and I'd like to get a book to go through a bit with him at home but they dont use books in his school so I'm clueless. Hes struggling a little in it and I dont want him to end up falling behind and hating it.
I'm late seeing this but yeah, Bua na Cainte is widely used. This link for free downloads was working before (this is from the official Edco site, not a torrent).
downloads.edco.ie/bua Be aware that these programmes are entirely in Irish as that's the recommended approach.
I wouldn't get the 2nd class book personally, I'd do 1st. That way, if the school use Bua you're revising things he might have done before l and the 2nd class work will be fresh for him. Of course if they're on Abair Liom or whatever, crack on.
I'd also do things to build up his vocab. Label things in one room of the house, use lots of informal Irish with him (real basics like "ba mhaith liom _", "cen aois thu" - jellies or stickers could be a good reward for practice). Go over colours, days of the week etc or any theme like food, body parts etc. The vocab makes a big difference.
