Yes that’s correct. My dh also had to self isolate recently when a friend of his who was fully vaccinated had a positive test. I’m assuming the vaccination means people don’t get as ill if they catch it. But it seems unclear how likely they are to transmit to others.

I’m not worried about Dd getting ill - she has had Covid & is also fully vaccinated. But obviously she has to self isolate in case she passes it on to others.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 30/05/2021 09:38

That's awful @Decorhate. I was aware that being vaccinated doesn't prevent you from catching or spreading covid, I thought it was so odd when I first heard! But hopefully it means it's a very mild dose and possibly the amount transmitted is lower too? What a mess. Your poor DD and her friends.

I'm getting my jab on Monday.

I would wear white to the communion, so long as it's accessorised right! I think it would be fab with tan wedges/sandals and belt etc. Just don't wear a veil Grin

Carriemac · 30/05/2021 12:04

DS is wear white , if it was my DD I wouldn't

If its a white summer dress does it have other colours going through it? If so then that could make it entirely different to wearing a plain white dress and I think it would be ok?

I'm writing off any plans for a holiday for us this year. Have just seen May 2022 holidays advertised and thinking that it should surely be safe to book for that time. I have ryanair vouchers from last years cancelled trip so will have to book something with them before they expire.

We have the lovely weather here today 🌞🌞

@LifeInAHamsterWheel " I would wear white to the communion.............Just don't wear a veil."

Sorry to hear about your Dd @Decorhate
That's scary to think they've been vaccinated.

MrsMaiselsRedCoat · 30/05/2021 15:32

Decorhate that's terrible for your dd, she must be so disappointed. Strangely I have heard of more covid cases in the last week than since January. All young people, all asymptotic which is good, but still causing so much disruption to friends and family who are close contacts.

Given that, when I saw the pictures of Sth William St last night I was a bit shocked. I'm not judging at all, I have teens and young adults and their lives have been so disrupted, so many missed occasions, opportunities, so much disappointment for them. There has been so much loneliness, depression and anxiety in young people due to the enforced isolation and I just don't think they can take it any more. I know older people are going 'what the hell...' but I think they are just desperate for some normality and fun. I just really hope the night out doesn't come back to bite them.

halfpasteleven I'd go for a white based print, maybe a floral, otherwise I think you'll be 'judged'! Personally I'd wear a white dress as long as your accessories are a different colour, but I do tend to wear what I like and ignore the begrudgers! Realistically, in this climate you'll end up with a jacket, if not a coat, over your dress at the service, so it's less likely to be noticed

Carriemac · 30/05/2021 18:41

That's terrible for your DD @Decorhate , if I remember correctly she's in the same city as my DS? Who is currently with lots of med students camping in someone's aunties garden in Skye .

Yes that’s right Carrie. Two of her housemates went away on Saturday morning to visit another friend who graduated last year - before the person with the positive test got symptoms. So they are stuck at the other end of the country, presumably had been just sleeping on the floor/sofa. I’m not sure how many in total are having to self-isolate

Decorhate · 30/05/2021 22:11

It’s particularly annoying as track & trace have failed (again?). When the person with the positive test went to enter it on their app, they found that they should have been self isolating for 4 days at that stage as presumably they had been in close contact with someone else who was positive. But they had had no contact via phone or the app to tell them this.

halfpasteleven · 30/05/2021 22:55

Thanks to all for the valued dress advice. I still have plenty of time to get a dress so will keep my options open!
Although DS class has a positive case and he is deemed a close contact so who knows when or if it will go head now..
So disruptive for the rest of us...
Time will tell

eggandonion · 01/06/2021 15:48

It seems to be summer here today, for a couple of hours. It's a bit sticky, monsoon weather.
Have we any leaving cert parents amongst us, or a level GCSE types?
I am so fed up cooking, I'd live on sandwiches for six months.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 01/06/2021 16:14

Yes, it's a beautiful day. It's hardly going to last, is it? No, not here, egg. Another cancelled Junior Cert, but that's okay. He's still doing exams, nearly finished.

AnnieJ1985 · 01/06/2021 17:55

I've actually dug out my shorts today - not sure I am willing to venture outside the front door in them, but happy pottering out the back! I hope we have nice weather for bank holiday (probably jinxed it now)

We don't have any exams here, although niece is doing her LC. It is definitely exam weather today

MrsMaiselsRedCoat · 01/06/2021 20:38

We went out in the sun today (with sunblock, sunglasses and sunhats) it was lovely but everyone is absolutely shattered. All I could muster up for dinner was pasta and dc hardly had the energy to eat it.

We're not built for this weather are we? BTW it was (only) 18 degrees 😂

Not to worry, according to the forecast I'll be back to moaning about the rain tomorrow!

JaneJeffer · 02/06/2021 15:30

Not much lovely weather in the West for the last couple of days. Probably just as well as the amount of traffic was ridiculous at the weekend.

AnnieJ1985 · 02/06/2021 16:01

Definitely chillier today.

I am heading up Home Home on Friday for first time since last summer. As long as it doesn't snow, I'll be happy, but a bit of heat would be lovely for sitting outside.

mrsfeatherbottom · 02/06/2021 16:51

We bought a parasol this morning in glorious sunshine. Had it up about half an hour and it clouded over. The sun probably won't come out for the rest of the summer and it'll be all my fault. Apologies

JaneJeffer · 02/06/2021 16:55

No you mustn't blame yourself @mrsfeatherbottom. I bought a summer dress. That's what did it.

mrsfeatherbottom · 02/06/2021 17:03

We went to see the in-laws in Dublin on Sunday and it was so lovely. We were able to stay outside all day so felt very safe.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/06/2021 19:04

The weather is very fickle. Beautiful sunshine yesterday and a damp, grey day again today.
Is anyone thinking of going to a restaurant? (And bringing their umbrella?)

eggandonion · 02/06/2021 19:50

We are going to a restaurant in 3 weeks time. Isn't that exciting?
It was a nice evening for a walk, but a bit of a miserable grey day.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/06/2021 20:11

That is great egg. You will enjoy it!

Killahangilion · 02/06/2021 20:29

I had something called Covid Arm about 8 days after my Janssen jab. I had no other side effects for 7 days after the jab. I woke up in the early hours and it was incredibly painful from my left shoulder to my hand for about 24 hours, as if someone had walloped me hard in the arm.

Apparently, it’s a known side effect in the States but obviously less well known over here as my GP wasn’t aware of it at all, but I found some info. on it after some further googling.

I initially rang the GP feeling a bit panicky about blood clots as I wasn’t expecting a painful arm 8 days after having the jab. 😳🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyone else experience this?

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/06/2021 20:53

That's strange alright, Killahangilion. You wouldn't expect that eight days after the jab. It sounds painful. No, I haven't heard of it. I have a friend who said she felt very rough after her Jansen shot, she said it felt like a brutal hangover, spent that weekend munching on paracetamol (!) and I talked to others who had a similar experience.
