Thanks for the suggestions - off to look now.

I know @eggandonion, much like me they have lived in casual clothes for the last year. I even need to get them shoes as they only have runners Blush

JaneJeffer · 25/05/2021 20:43

There's always Dunnes as well.

halfpasteleven · 25/05/2021 22:00

@Thesagacontinues I'd say dunnes and next are your best bet. Next are v fast to deliver if you order before 10 it used to be next day delivery and maybe it still is. The sizing is good too- roomy for growing kids!

We moved our holiday from this year to next year, and BA refunded us, so now coming home for a longer period is on the cards, I read somewhere that they are thinking of opening up travel between the UK and Ireland without the need for PCR testing that would make life so much easier, not to mention the ££££'s it would cost.

If anyone sees an article on it, can they please link as I can't remember where I saw it.

TIA

Yesterday I found out that a dear friend was dealing with cancer.

Over Zoom we both raised a cup of Irish tea (to beat the Bastard that it is) and know that everyone is in this together with fighting this awful illness.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 27/05/2021 14:22

I'm very sorry to hear that HaHaVeryBunny.
It's a Bastard and I hope she kicks it good and hard. Thinking of ye Brew

FinallyFluid There seems to be a bit of hassle with making sure you have the right kind of PCR test for travel into Ireland all right, so until that bubble comes along, be careful, see article below

Who is the eejit asking questions on Prime Time? It's like he doesn't want any good news.

FinallyFluid · 27/05/2021 23:53

@secondrow

Thank you....

Sorry and Jane Jeffer....

Wakemeuuuup · 28/05/2021 12:29

So they've just confirmed they're not reopening the common travel area. I'm so sad

As someone who's done it, it's dead clear. I don't have much sympathy for someone who thought a piece of paper saying negative result, but not saying it's from a RT-PCR test as required, would somehow pass muster at the airport. Hmm

The cost of the test is annoying but the requirements really are very clear.

Carriemac · 28/05/2021 15:49

I'm sad about the common travel
Area , I've been fully vaccinated for five months with confirmed antibodies and I think most Uk adults over 30 are too so I feel they could have let us in with our nhs Covid passports !

Hello,
Re not opening up the CTA..it's not clear to me. Does that mean if going from UK to Ireland with a negative PCR I'd still have to quarantine? Or I wouldn't be allowed in at all? Going with kids so it's not really feasible to go if the quarantine is still in place.
Haven't seen my family for nearly 2 years and was hoping to be able to go in July when fully vaccinated.

Decorhate · 28/05/2021 18:15

Yes I think at the moment you’d still have to quarantine (not sure if in a hotel though?) I’d happily do that but would be hard on the kids. I know the Indian variant is a concern & that’s understandable but I would have hoped that they might take into account the different rates across the country.

I’m pretty annoyed given that this was not inevitable & now we are potentially in worse restrictions than last summer in terms of travel.

RuggerHug · 28/05/2021 18:58

I've a relative over now who's quarantining but I don't know if that's mandatory or she's just being sensible. Only up side of Brexit discovered though, could buy duty free on the ferryConfused

MissMaudSilver · 29/05/2021 00:13

I've just decided that it's safer to leave travelling until next year! Travelling to family is long haul and I always have to transit through another country, usually UK or north america. I can't keep up with all the changing requirements.

Carriemac · 29/05/2021 10:30

@Notstrongandstable you can travel
To Ireland from Uk on 19th July with a vaccination certificate without quarantine

SecondRow · 29/05/2021 11:05

Even when DP and I are vaccinated - in another few months - our kids won't be. So will quarantine still apply? But maybe the overall risk levels of visitors coming from countries with high vaccination rates will be considered low enough by then? I hate not being able to plan anything Confused

halfpasteleven · 29/05/2021 22:27

Sorry to change the thread direction but just want to ask your opinion on this please..
If you had a DS making his communion would you ( as in his mam) wear white? There's some lovely summer white dresses that I'd love to try but maybe not for a communion? I've lived in dark leggings and tops for so long now that I really want to ditch the dark colours for this occasion.. but would white be a bit much if there's lots of little girls wearing it? I honestly can't call it.. !

I wouldn't personally, I think communions as dress like a wedding-ish. White is for the person whose day it is, any other colours are fair grand.
Decorhate · 30/05/2021 08:04

I would say no to white too.

Re travel, I’ve read so many conflicting things I’m not sure what will be allowed.

However, I think it’s good to bear in mind that regardless of vaccination status, plans can be scuppered at the last minute.

Dd has just phoned in tears - due to go on a UK trip tomorrow to celebrate end of university - fully vaccinated- as is her friend who has just tested positive - so now has to self isolate as she saw her friend on Friday.

Other friends have already gone away so will have to self isolate where they are now. Nightmare. All medics so who knows how many people have potentially been infected. Sad

LadyEloise · 30/05/2021 08:43

@Decorhate
Have I read your post correctly- your DD and her friend, medics, have both been vaccinated but your daughter's friend contracted Covid ?

@halfpasteleven I don't see why you couldn't wear white to a First Communion.
