What kind of overseas visitors are you seeing, Kingahangilion if you don't mind me asking? Tourists or foreign workers etc?

Only because I am desperate to be one of those visitors to Ireland as soon as it's practical but quarantine still applies both sides for us Sad

Yay to everyone getting vaccines. I'm jealous delighted for ye Wine

I hope you get yours soon SecondRow. Whereabouts are you?
SecondRow · 24/05/2021 10:22

Thanks Fuzzy! We're in Germany, there's just a massive population and millions ahead of us in the queue, DP and I are early 40s.

30% have had 1st dose and 13% had 2 doses I think. Still not enough supply of vaccines available although we keep being told the pace is just about to pick up...

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 24/05/2021 10:29

I hope so, Second, yes, it makes a difference. I'm late forties, DH is mid-fifties. He got his first dose one week ago tomorrow; we will be getting our first doses one week apart.

JaneJeffer · 24/05/2021 13:49

I'm sick of this weather. It's bloody freezing today.

I am over it too, my feet are like ice.
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 24/05/2021 14:10

Not to mention the soaking rainshowers every sixty-five minutes. Go away Mayvember!

FinallyFluid · 24/05/2021 14:38

The heating is on (at 25) and we had to turn lights on an hour ago.

I had to have a second shower yesterday to get some heat into my body.

To add insult to injury we are just about to cancel two weeks holiday in Southern Spain.

Ah no! That's crap.

I am still holding on to the hope of my holiday in October.

ContinuousMonotoneBeep · 24/05/2021 17:01

It's horrible isn't it. Bit of sun here - I'm like a cat, I'm currently sat inside by the window bathing in it.

Killahangilion · 24/05/2021 17:57

@SecondRow

Definitely tourist visitors. I live in a touristy area.
Motorbikes with overloaded paniers as well as cars with foreign plates and plenty of folks visiting their holiday homes down here. Not a problem normally, but lots of them managed to sidestep the 5km rule and visit for long week-ends throughout every flippin’ Lockdown. Most of my friends know the holiday homeowners who live near to them, as some friends paid to look after the property when they’re not there. (!!)

Another friend works in the main supermarket says it’s obvious who’s a visitor from the questions they ask.

At least the vaccine programme is being ramped up. I now know of 6 people who were phoned last minute to get their jab at the week-end. And that’s just a small group of friends.

SecondRow · 24/05/2021 19:46

Interesting, Killahangilion, I suppose if I had a holiday home there I'd be one of them! Somewhere to quarantine is the main thing holding me back for the last year. There's talk in the news of aviation for example "opening up" but of course there's been a steady trickle into the country all along really hasn't there.

Mayvember is right, Fuzzy! Same over here. Beergardens opening but not the weather for it!

Killahangilion · 24/05/2021 21:12

Now that the Covid App is no longer being updated, is there any way to look up case numbers generally so you can see if they're steadily rising or falling?
I know the overall numbers are reported daily but locally we were zero cases for ages then it started to rise before the data leak buggered everything up.

I'm wondering if the numbers are still rising locally?

Joolsin · 24/05/2021 23:12

I miss the Covid app - I love a good plotted graph! 😄 Damn hackers, I had a nice little 6.01pm routine every day where I'd wait for the numbers to update and then check all the counties for trends, work out percentages, etc. I am a very, very sad sack though!!!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 25/05/2021 08:51

I'm guessing you loved maths in school Joolsin
(I didn't!) Grin

SecondRow · 25/05/2021 09:27

I know the HSE has a lot going on but it is a bit concerning if there is no overview of Covid numbers available. Let's hope they are still compiling them manually behind the scenes somehow. Even when things were going in the right direction, there are still going to be transmissions with people relaxing and meeting up more.

TheVeryThing · 25/05/2021 12:15

SecondRow, they are actually compiling the numbers and reporting them daily (subject to verification later), they're just not updating the app.
Incidentally, my brother is in Germany and managed to get on a waiting list at a clinic for AZ and has had his first dose. He's under 40 and said that a lot of older Germans are rejecting AZ so there is some left over at the end of the day. Quite a few of his friends have got vaccinated that way too. I know things are done differently in different regions of Germany but maybe it's something you could explore?
It's so hard being separated from family and when you live in Europe you expect to be able to visit fairly frequently.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/05/2021 12:39

They're definitely still collating the data, they're telling us how bad the numbers are going in Limerick. I really hope the vaccinations keep the worst of it at bay now, we do seem to have ramped up the programme thank God. DH got his this morning (Pfizer) I registered a couple of days after him so I'm expecting to have mine by the end of the week. I would like preferred the JJ but at least with the Pfizer the second dose is only 4 weeks later. DH parents are many miles from us and we haven't seen them since Christmas of 2019 (having said that we've never spoken to them as much as we have in the last 12+ months!!) They are both now fully vaccinated so we're very hopeful that once we're both done we will get to see them. It's emotional even thinking about it. At their age, even though they're in good health, time is limited and to think they'll have spent 18 months of it cut off from all the family etc. is heartbreaking. There are 2 new grandchildren they've not met yet.

Actually, with Fathers Day coming up, I ordered some items for DFIL who has been giving me regular updates on the bird visitors to his garden! We gave him a birdhouse years ago that he never did anything with, but he put it up outside earlier in the year and now a family of tiny birds are living in it! So I ordered him a water bath and a feeder and a few other bits for Father's Day. I've never ordered from them before but they have some many things to choose from and all very reasonable. here's a link I promise I don't work for them!

That website is lovely @LifeInAHamsterWheel

LadyEloise · 25/05/2021 14:28

Thank you for sharing that website LifeInAHamsterWheel

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/05/2021 15:59

You're welcome Smile it's quite therapeutic to watch birds isn't it, I'm sure they're all wondering what on earth is going on with the weather this year!! It is apparently going to heat up this weekend, I really hope it's true!

Thesagacontinues · 25/05/2021 18:20

Is there anywhere still doing next day delivery for clothes?

Something has come up and I need to get smart clothes for DS7 and DS2 by saturday Confused

JaneJeffer · 25/05/2021 19:37

Do you have a Next near you @Thesagacontinues you can do click and collect.

MrsMaiselsRedCoat · 25/05/2021 20:10

Next do a next day collect from store if you order before midnight.

I find Mango very quick to deliver, I order on Monday and it's delivered on Wednesday. If you order tonight you should have it by Saturday.

Zara and M&S are a bit slower IME, but I think you'd probably be ok if you order tonight.

eggandonion · 25/05/2021 20:36
