I remember March 2020.

Who would have thought we would still be in lockdown a year later

fightingirish · 04/04/2021 13:57

@LadyEloise it was £1 off the big ones so instead of £5 they were £3.95 and the smaller ones were heavily discounted as well if you had a Clubcard, I was buying them as I was shopping and dumping them into the garage, again forgot I had some and bought more ... bloody hell I got way too many!

Sarahtrue · 04/04/2021 14:06

What do you think about the 2 women coming back from Dubai. They didnt refuse quarantine just out of choice.

They said that they couldnt afford quarantine in a hotel. They are now in mountjoy. So if we cant afford quarantine, we will be put in jail.

It scares me. I am outside Ireland and I am in one of the countries on the list. I was hoping to come back to Ireland in the next few months, but it sounds absolutely terrifying at Dublin Airport. I guess I will put off coming home until the summer at least

Sarahtrue · 04/04/2021 14:11

I am not saying the women are right, and yes there should be some rules in place.

But if people don't have the money on them right at that moment, should they really be put in jail? That is scary

Sarahtrue · 04/04/2021 14:12

And then you could also be a national news story, just by returning home

Mayzee · 04/04/2021 14:15

Thanks for the new thread- looking forward to more chats in this Irish corner of mumsnet:)
Happy Easter Easter Smile

Mayzee · 04/04/2021 14:20

I think if your return home is essential , like for medical treatment or a funeral, an exception can be made for quarantine. These ladies are not that long out of the country that they wouldn’t know about the quarantine coming in so I don’t know what they hoped to achieve by refusing when they landed. It smacks of the same entitlement that prompts someone to travel to a holiday destination for non essential surgery in a pandemic, that makes that same person feel the rules don’t apply to them. No sympathy whatsoever!

eggandonion · 04/04/2021 14:23

As long as we don't find out the hse funded the surgery!
Around me, half the families now seem to have given up. Some have a visitor, one is on her third lot. I know that because they park in front of our house and screech a lot.
We have a chocolate biscuit cake incorporating mini eggs, I don't want visitors as I don't want to share Wink

LadyEloise · 04/04/2021 14:25

They went to Dubai for breast augmentation - I'm sure that wasn't cheap- they weren't coming back for a funeral or a medical emergency.

fightingirish · 04/04/2021 14:28

I think the world has gone mad and sooner we go back to normal living the better,

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/04/2021 14:29

I wonder if they knew they would have to quarantine on their return.
Some people seem oblivious don't bother tuning in to what's happening around them.

JaneJeffer · 04/04/2021 14:41

Happy Easter everyone. Last year I put something nice on because it was Easter Sunday; this year I CBA. There's a distinct lack of chocolate because all the eggs sold out. Meh.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/04/2021 14:43

Well, @FinallyFluid, are you looking gorgeous in your gúna?! Grin

IwishIwasontheN17 · 04/04/2021 14:43

@Emeraldshamrock condolences 💐

IwishIwasontheN17 · 04/04/2021 14:44

And can I thank @beanaseireann for instigating these lovely threads. It’s definitely helped me feel more connected with goings on across the island. I’ve been here since thread 1, different hiberno-themed names

fightingirish · 04/04/2021 15:40

@JaneJeffer same, I have accumulated several new pairs of pyjamas in the last 12 months, I got the kids the obligatory new Easter clothes and even they are still in jammies!

MarDhea · 04/04/2021 16:43

It's soooooo good having the sun out over the Easter weekend ☀️

It's glorious here today and it's really lifted everyone's spirits in our house. The park was packed earlier but at least most people were just in family groups or masked when chatting and walking.

Everyone I know is looking forward to the 12th when schools go back and the limit moves to county borders / 20km. I'll be able to meet with family for the first time since xmas, and I'll try to catch up with friends I haven't seen for even longer (except over Zoom). I think having that to look forward to is really lifting people's spirits as well Smile

MarDhea · 04/04/2021 16:46

We have a chocolate biscuit cake incorporating mini eggs, I don't want visitors as I don't want to share

What witchery is this that puts mini eggs in a chocolate biscuit cake? Genius!

Cut me a slice there egg - it's only virtual so you won't miss it Grin

IwishIwasontheN17 · 04/04/2021 16:59

Gonna be baltic tomorrow.

eggandonion · 04/04/2021 17:15

There are mini eggs inside and some stuck on the top with white chocolate, and two malteser bunnies chocolated on. Including maltesers in the main cake makes it very light!
We gave a chunk to the family next door, because we could eat the entire thing but it is 90 percent sugar.

FinallyFluid · 04/04/2021 17:51

@IsFuzzyBeagMise

Well, *@FinallyFluid*, are you looking gorgeous in your gúna?! Grin
Soon, the wind died down, so we sat in the garden with a glass of wine, but I had leggings and boots on. Collecting DS then home and into the guna. 😂
LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/04/2021 18:24

Just reading the latest update on the two ladies who refused to go to the quarantine hotel. They didn't go ahead with their procedures, no mention of why. I can't help wondering if it's like when people book dental treatments in the canaries but cancel when they get there Hmm. Also, if their families were funding said procedures as birthday presents and they didn't go through with them then surely they could use that money to pay their bail/quarantine hotel bill? Something doesn't sound right about this story... Anyway what would I know. I think the sheer quantity of food I've eaten today has affected my ability to think straight!!
I managed to get a load of washing fully dried outside today! This has made me ridiculously happy!! But I believe the weather is to turn again tonight. Feck sake. Luckily the layers of fat I've accumulated this past few months will mean I can weather this impending cold spell Wink

Was just talking to my brother and he got a Caramel Egg and a Malteasers Egg. Big child that he is!
I had a Mini Egg egg (2 of them) as I thought I was buying 2 packets of mini eggs, but they were Easter eggs.
Have Ferrero Rocher today. They remind me of when I gave birth and was trying to breastfeed after a CS. My neighbour brought in a tray of Ferrero Rocher and they kept me alive.

Chocolate biscuit cake you've made sounds divine! I used to make them often, I used the recipe where you use condensed milk, butter, chocolate and rich tea biscuits. Can't find the exact recipe I used to use online anymore, but everyone loved it. Sometimes I'd put sultanas in, but that was about as adventurous as I got. Dc didn't like the sultana version but I did. It's so dense that we'd give a quarter each to parents and inlaws.

Any good family film recommendations to watch? I've Netflix and Amazon Prime. Sky of course. Can't seem to live stream rte programmes. I'm sure there should be a good film on.

ismiseeire · 04/04/2021 20:40

Ye, the two women being jailed for not quarantining is a bit of a mess. Your whole business splashed all over the shop.

ismiseeire · 04/04/2021 20:43

Daddy's Home 2 is on Prime now if anyone wants something lighthearted to watch with children. Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson are in it. It's about blended families really.
