I've been in hospital and while family are not allowed onto the wards, they are allowed to drop in little packages of stuff for their loved ones.
There was one lovely lady who was just so lovely. I used to watch her for days, and just speak to her passing into the ward. Finally I got talking to her and it was her Mum who was in the bed next to me. From then on, whenever I met the lady (she really waited there for hours every day), I would reassure her that her Mum was talking, didn't seem in pain and was just sleeping a lot. I'd say you know whatever, yes, she asked for the commode and then went back to bed. She seems very content and not at all stressed.

I think her daughter was so assured hearing that from me. I don't know why the staff kept her out there. I think she was hoping to get speaking to surgeons or something. Every day though, she spent hours there.

ismiseeire · 04/04/2021 06:13

The reason I passed that lady so often was because I'm a smoker so had to wait to be let onto the ward (you can't just walk in), so you could be a while waiting at the door to be let back in.

ismiseeire · 04/04/2021 06:20

The elderly lady was 90 if she was a day, so I'm presuming her dd who I got to talk to was about 65. If I could have a dd who cared so much about me as to hang around in a corridor for the surgeons to do their rounds every day, then I would be happy. There were no seats in the corridor either! She just waited there for hours every morning, hoping to catch the doctors. Then she'd be there for hours in the afternoon, to try to talk to a nurse! The love she had for her Mum was something extraordinary to witness. Well for me. My Mum and I are not close.

Thread uimhir a seacht !!! Great title.
As the originator of Thread a haon, way back in late February 2020 as Covid began to take hold in the country it's been great to share our different experiences and opinions through the awful year.
Thank you to all those who set up new threads. I've been on them all, though I've name changed a few times.
I've name changed so often I don't remember who I've been Blush.
To all those who've lost loved ones ThanksMe too. Sad
What a year !!!
I've been off sweets and chocolates for Lent but haven't lost a pound so looking forward to a feast of chocolate today. Smile
Cáisc Shona Daoibh go léir Easter Smile and may the year ahead be better.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/04/2021 08:29

Happy Easter, everyone Easter Smile
I hope you have a lovely day.

Carriemac · 04/04/2021 08:38

I'm so sorry to hear of those who have had loved ones die in the past year , I hate the online funeral watching , seeing my parents look so old and frail on a bad video link as they have to social distance in their own church from their bereaved nieces and nephews was agonising .
I was lucky enough to get home for a month in august but Easter is hard . We never go home for Christmas but this is the first Easter I've spent in he Uk in years . My daughter is a student tin Dublin and rang me last night to check how to do the lamb for today's roast dinner . She is cooking for her housemates all of them stuck in Dublin for Easter .
Welcome to the newbies - it's a very friendly thread ..

Taytocrisps · 04/04/2021 09:03

Happy Easter to everyone on Craicnet, near and far Easter Smile. I've the kettle on and the frying pan is heating up for the big fry. The Easter Bunny has been and left me a giant Mini Eggs egg. If you're good, you can have a few mini eggs while breakfast is cooking.

Apileofballyhoo · 04/04/2021 09:08

Beannachtaí na Cásca oraibh uilig.

61 is so young @fighingirish, I'm so sorry.

I haven't heard ní maith liom do bhrón in a long time lego.

Dreamed I was with my DF in the early hours of this morning. He loved Easter and he was a great man for an occasion.

I can't believe it's our second Easter like this. Pope Francis is celebrating Mass - DH has CBSN on and it's on that. I'm close to tears remembering seeing it last year and everywhere deserted in Rome. Who knew what we had ahead of us.

Annonymiss123 · 04/04/2021 09:23

Happy Easter everyone.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 04/04/2021 09:52

Is there any tea in the pot? Did ye get Mass... I saw herself from up the road there looking like the cat that got the cream...you do know her, she's married to what'sthatfella...his Mother was from the County Clare, God rest her soul, she was a great woman with them children turned out with ne'er a hair out of place. Herself at the Mass couldn't hold a candle to her & sure himself, he well knows it too. You do know her, that wee one you used to sit beside in school was a second cousin once removed. Mother of God...is that tar in the pot...I like it good & strong with a wee drop of the white only...

Dropping back in.. I was on the early threads (under different names) but think I dropped off after thread three.

Sorry to those who have lost relatives and have relatives in hospital Flowers.

The good weather made the last week a lot easier - I was able to keep the kids outside for much longer.

My younger DS is now nearly 2 so its the first easter that he realises there is chocolate under the colourful shiny tin foil. He is thrilled.

Happy Easter all! Dh has belted down the stairs with the dog to see if the Easter bunny has brought him eggs! Dc are in bed and couldn't be arsed! I'm waiting in bed for a mug of tea ! And hopefully a choccie egg!

Joolsin · 04/04/2021 11:29

Happy Easter, all. We have been scoffing Easter eggs for weeks (probably major contributors to the shortage this week!). Teen DS realised a few years ago that it's much more economical to buy eggs when they're on offer than normal chocolate bars, so every year from the moment they appear in the shops, he buys armfuls. So then the rest of us start too.

My favourite is Cadburys Buttons. Easter Grin

fightingirish · 04/04/2021 11:40

Ah I bought a stupid amount as well, the Clubcard offer in Tesco was lethal,

LadyEloise · 04/04/2021 11:47

Happy Easter all. Easter Smile
What Tesco Clubcard offer was that fightingirish ?
Probably better I didn't know about it.
I already feel a bit sick after hitting the Lindt and Leonidas.

NinthCircle · 04/04/2021 11:48

I’m surprised any of you have any Easter eggs. DS just had a birthday, and everyone gave him an egg. I think we have the EU egg mountain in the utility room.

It’s actually kind of disturbing-looking.

Emeraldshamrock · 04/04/2021 11:50

@ismiseeire That was lovely reassuring her DD. The lack of contact with loved ones in hospital is tough.
I lost DM in the first wave April. I was terrified dropping her clothes and snacks off daily, wish I hadn't had been so scared hindsight is wonderful.
Anyway onwards and upwards DM made me smile everyday and I'm grateful for the memories so many don't get that chance of a mothers real pure love.

Thesagacontinues · 04/04/2021 12:06

I know @NinthCircle I think eggs are so cheap now that people just stock up on them and hand them out to everyone.

I had to help my elderly neighbour with his laptop the other day and he had eggs there for my DC, our cleaner brought eggs for DC when she came this week and schools had one for each pupil on the last day before holidays.

I finished off a caramel egg this morning and am now (un)patiently waiting for my turkey and ham dinner.

LadyEloise · 04/04/2021 12:07

Oh my, @ EmeraldShamrock I am really shocked at so many on this thread who have lost a parent during this pandemic.
Deepest sympathies.

LizzieAnt · 04/04/2021 12:12

So sorry for your loss @Emeraldshamrock. Sounds like you had a wonderful mother.
My sympathies to all who have had losses at this time.

Emeraldshamrock · 04/04/2021 12:19

Thank you. Smile
Yes there has been too many. Flowers

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/04/2021 12:38

I am also very sorry to hear about the losses of those on this thread Flowers

Apileofballyhoo · 04/04/2021 12:46

I'm sorry for your loss too, emerald. It must have been a very difficult year for you. I'm glad you have lovely memories and I'm sorry Covid got in the way of the last precious times.
