Not sure what will happen with hotels when they open. I wonder if resident's will be able to dine in at set times.

Mind you a hotel this June I reckon will be €€€€. The hospitality sector has a lot of revenue make up!!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/04/2021 21:51

No apparently we will be able to dine-in in hotels but not in restaurants/pubs. I read a big rant about it on FB by a local restaurant owner. And their association is up in arms over it. I can see their point, it does seem very unfair.

I'm not at all keen on staying in a hotel this summer if it still involves pre booking every single thing, not having the breakfast buffet and only getting a poxy 45 minutes in the pool! Not to mention the extortionate price of all that Hmm I'm praying for good weather so we can relax in our back garden and take day-trips (with packed lunches!)

But I am so delighted that hairdressers and beauty salons will open very soon Smile

I'm trying to imagine myself in a hotel, a cafe, a hairdresser...even being back in work!

I know! It's a bit of a leap!

I'm going to wait until June for the hairdresser.
It was way too overcrowded last time. I'll wait until the mad rush is over first.

BiddyPop · 30/04/2021 10:33

It was great to see some good news at last. I can't wait to go down home and see the rest of the family...it will have been 11 months since I saw DPs and DMIL by the time we're allowed (although apparently DMIL is itching to go to DSIL's house (her DD) to see the 2 smallie DGCs there, so we might need to juggle our trips down).

I'm contemplating taking 6 weeks off in July/Aug before I lose the chance to take parental leave at the end of the year - DD and I might camp a few nights, go to visit family again while DH works, and go down west to surf.....just have some quiet time away from the frantic desk in the spare room! (Might even pack away the computer and get out my sewing machine for some fun!).

Barbers for me but I feel exactly the same. I avoided getting one last haircut last December as there was a queue down the street in the rain and I figured "Nah, I'll go home and do it myself with the clippers."

Since my hair has grown out for the first time in 20 years, I surprised myself the other day when I caught my reflection in the hall mirror and realised how much I resemble my late father.

Seeing as I now live in his old family home, it's quite appropriate I suppose.

3timeslucky · 30/04/2021 16:53

I'm waiting for the hairdressers this time too. First opening there was really good distancing. Second time we we side by side with plastic partitions and it just felt too much. Maybe I've just gone past caring about my hair!

BiddyPop · 30/04/2021 16:55

I'm back to catching the top of my hair in a pony tail to control it (and a hairband for the wisps). It's well over a decade since I had long hair, I'm thinking I might try and grow it back into a layered bob again (once the current mop can be tamed a bit). My fear is that my hairdresser may well decide to retire and I would have to go back to a salon again....my current guy left a salon about 6 years ago and added my side of the city to his catchment a year later, I was so glad to go back to him!! You miss the proper wash but it generally feels far less rushed, and it's easy to get DD's "once a year, tidy the split ends" trim done as well.

mrsfeatherbottom · 30/04/2021 17:43

I went to the hairdressers today (NI) - first time since November. I went a bit nuts and got an undercut!!

JaneJeffer · 30/04/2021 18:46

I've just seen Derek Mooney on The Six O Clock Show. His hair is wild Grin

I had forgotten about him! Is it a bird's nest?!

My ds last went to the barbers during last summer. He skipped it in December because he thought it was too busy. His hair has grown long in the mean time and he has to tie it up for home economics when he cooks in school :) I think he wants to keep a bit of length now. It has been funny to see the curl/wave coming out in his hair. (He doesn't get it from his father!)

He does like the birds Jane, in fairness Grin
mrsfeatherbottom · 30/04/2021 20:21

When do you think we'll be able to do cross-border family visits? We haven't seen ILs since August. They have both had both jabs, DH and I have had one each and will be fully vaccinated by the end of June.

eggandonion · 30/04/2021 21:16

Based on statistics it looks like Derry and Donegal are all one county.
We are supposed to be going north at the end of August.

That sounds like a lovely way to spend some parental leave @BiddyPop
JaneJeffer · 30/04/2021 23:20

Those boys on the Late Late are gorgeous. I agree with the dad that sign language should be taught at school.

TheLongRider · 30/04/2021 23:27

@BiddyPop take the leave. DH took one day a week parental leave over the last six months before DD got too old. It's taken a lot of the pressure off him. He still got all his work done in four days but his mental health was much better for the extra day off. We could just afford the pay cut but I'd live on beans on toast if it gave him the headspace.

RachelsHoliday21 · 01/05/2021 22:33

@mrsfeatherbottom 10th of May for cross county travel, I think that includes the 32 counties.

Good. Wasn't sure if cross border was included. Thanks

Trust me.. it doesn't take long until it feels like you had never left!
CliffsofMohair · 03/05/2021 14:37

After all this time at home with the kids away from family I’d give my right elbow to have a few nights to myself in a hotel.

halfpasteleven · 03/05/2021 15:55

My quote below was in relation to going back to work.. should have clarified that.
A few nights in a hotel.. even one night away alone.. could be bliss.
I wonder if it will become a thing after lockdown?
