It is awful. I'm hoping some professionals lost respect for him.
The 20 were probably vaccinated after his family and close friends. Grin
Great news for Vicky Phelen her treatment is working.
She is an amazing and inspirational person. ❤

Innishannon is pretty but there's not much there, Bandon is nearby. I'd be inclined to look at the towns and suburbs nearest where you are working, traffic is bad at times.
It rains a lot more in Cork than East Anglia, I was in the fens for a few years! But it is unusual to have really cold weather.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 28/03/2021 20:16

I sent you a PM, Fratercula Smile

Yes, Innishannon is on the way to West Cork, for me. It wouldn't be the easiest commute and for schools, you would be looking at Bandon, further away again.

She certainly is. I was delighted to see her looking so well on Twitter.
Apileofballyhoo · 28/03/2021 20:43

Would you have to be in the office everyday, Fera? Innishannon can be an awful curse for traffic and there always seems to be some kind of roadworks on that road. Not that I've been down that way recently! Back in my old Cork days things were ok in the city before 7am, but 7.05 and you'd be in trouble. That's 20 years ago or close to it, so I don't know what it's like now, and I suppose if people continue to work from home it could take pressure off. It used to make a huge difference to me when the schools were off in the summer holidays. A lot depends on what part of the city you're travelling to, I suppose. I'd say Bandon is good for schools but no good if it's the wrong direction, though I'd imagine there must be a school bus serving Bandon. There's a nice playground in Innishannon and a kind of walk along the river.

I wonder what the road is like if you go the airport way in the mornings, anyone?

Apileofballyhoo · 28/03/2021 20:49

Frater sorry.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 28/03/2021 20:50

Yes, there are always roadworks in Innishannon!

eggandonion · 28/03/2021 21:41

There are always delays coming off the airport road onto the kinsale road roundabout because it gets a shorter green light. I have a friend who goes a really complicated route of country roads, and it is terrifying, to avoid traffic.
If you avoid working 9 to 5,and do 10 to 6 it makes a massive difference. My dh tried to do that, when he used to go to work. God I miss those days.

Lucent · 28/03/2021 21:48

Inishannon is a nice village, but essentially a corridor bisected by a very busy national road, and a massive bottleneck in the mornings in normal times — Clonakilty is well within commuter territory, so you have a lot of traffic heading into the city. Or you did pre-Covid.

God yes, I was briefly in a situation where I was coming into the city from west of Clon at morning rush hour, and people were continually sketching me out these incredibly intricate cross country routes to avoid the road between Bandon and Inishannon.
SionnachRua · 28/03/2021 22:05

I'll admit that when I saw the name Vicky Phelan in a headline I had a bit of a sinking feeling in my stomach...but it was lovely to hear that her treatment is working.

The bit about desperate for rain reminded me of my American penpal I've been training up in Irish-isms. She's great now, she met an Irish person a couple weeks ago and asked them "Barry's or Lyons"? Was only delighted with herself and freaked the hell out of them!

IwishIwasontheN17 · 29/03/2021 00:56

@FraterculaArctica where have you reserved school places? You know that most schools are Catholic ethos? (Although Bandon has a good mix of RC and CoI)

AnnieJ1985 · 29/03/2021 08:17

The Monday morning after a time change is a killer, isn't it?

Oh yes! Still trying to get myself moving here, two coffees in. I'm the only one working today, and I'm resenting it 😀**

I’m lying in bed still and have to be “in the office” in 20 minutes. One perk of working from home is being able to log in, answer a few emails and then go for a shower! 😅
FionaMacCool · 29/03/2021 08:49

Oh God yes, the hour is dreadful this morning.
I am the only one here who has to get up and out the door I resent this terribly.
Very hard to get the engine started today.

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/03/2021 09:42

I forgot I was in hoildays for a second when i woke up this morning. I had a mini heart attack at half eight, I am I work by then. Grin

AnnieJ1985 · 29/03/2021 10:20

I feel jet lagged. Two coffees down, and going to make some breakfast.

WFH with no video calls booked in is a big bonus today, I must admit!

Iblinkedandiamold · 29/03/2021 12:30

I'm on Week 3 of Dancing on Ice. The celebs are dropping like flies.
I love John Barrowman since his dr who and torchwood days. He seems to have aged and put on weight suddenly for me anyway and he looks so good it really suits him. Pity he's married..oh and gay Grin

FinallyFluid · 30/03/2021 00:04

Only me interested in the Beacon then. ?

JaneJeffer · 30/03/2021 00:14

What do you mean @FinallyFluid? There's been much discussion on the thread!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 30/03/2021 00:15

We did comment on the Beacon on pages 21 and 22, FinallyFluid.
The vaccination programme has been put on hold there, I think.

Argh, I've just scrolled back to see when it was talked about, @IsFuzzyBeagMise, only you've already done it. Should have saved my time!!!

The thread has trotted on through several subjects since, @FinallyFluid, but I think it's safe to say that there's universal anger about the Beacon situation.

FinallyFluid · 30/03/2021 00:24

Noted.

FinallyFluid · 30/03/2021 00:26

I personally, will be watching, because this is going to explode massively.

Maybe I am too much of a news hound, but if it goes the way I suspect, you heard it here first.
