Thank you @CherryValanc

Unprecedented for sure!
I don't think this has happened before on Craicnet but I must say I'm glad to see it!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 07/03/2021 08:05

Good morning! Checking into the new shiny thread Brew Thank you, CherryValanc.

Thanks to everyone for the chat and the company.

Iblinkedandiamold · 07/03/2021 09:05

New thread yay.

FionaMacCool · 07/03/2021 10:21

Yay, shiny new thread!

LadyEloise · 07/03/2021 10:44

Thank you, CherryValanc.
Hopefully by the time this thread ends we'll be out of lockdown. ( Clutches at straws ).

Just wondering what brought you all to Mumsnet ?
Personally I have no idea, nobody in real life recommended it, I don't know of anyone else in real life who's on it though I have recommended it to friends.
I've been here since probably 2012ish, have had numerous name changes and find it so interesting, there's something for everyone.
It also gives you a different perspective on things. A "súil eile" as TG4 ad goes.
The downside is that it's addictive. Smile

Iblinkedandiamold · 07/03/2021 10:59

I was on another Irish site but it got very bitchy. I just left. It wasnt rollercoaster.
I'm new enough here, I needed advice and mumsnet came up in a search.
I prefer craicnet and now I am wondering what'll happen when the pandemic is over. Will we all just fade off into the sunset.

LadyEloise · 07/03/2021 11:08

Well I've been on Mumsnet for about 9 years and Craicnet when they were debating what to call it so I'm not fading off anywhere, Iblinkedandiamold

Iblinkedandiamold · 07/03/2021 11:55

That's great @LadyEloise, I love the chat on here, especially at the weekends when I'm stuck on my wn

CherryValanc · 07/03/2021 11:56

When I was expecting my first I used Magicmum and as it was so much smaller it was easy to 'recognise' people. I would use MN if I had something I wanted to be anonymous for. (MM was more entertainment source) I can't recall how I came across MN - possibly from googling - but I've been registered here for a long time. The ability to name change is appealng.

My use of MM reduced a lot when my children got older - probably because I was more confident and had less need for constant reassurance. I think I use MN more now than I did then - probably more for discussing TV shows than children...

Though this thread has made me realise I do miss 'talking' to other Irish mums online.

Wouldn't it be lovely.
I'm on mumsnet around 12 years with name changes.

Emeraldshamrock · 07/03/2021 12:01

Thanks for the new thread. @CherryValanc

Taytocrisps · 07/03/2021 12:13

Thanks for the new thread @CherryValanc.

I've been here a few years and post in lots of different threads but it's nice to have our own little corner. I guess the lockdown threads will fizzle out and we'll all go a bit crazy catching up with family and friends and even (imagine!) holidays. You know, normal life. But hopefully we'll all drift back once we get over the initial socializing frenzy.

What do you think will happen after 5th April? Will they ease things at all? Or will they be mindful of what happened after Christmas and keep us in lockdown for another month, so as to get the numbers right down and allow the over 70s/chronic medical condition people to get their vaccinations? I really wish they'd ease the 5 km exercise rule - even extending it to 20 km would make a big difference to me.

What do you find hardest about the restrictions? Apart from not seeing my family and friends, I really miss coffee shops and clothes/bookshops. I've never really been a pub person. Oh and day trips to places.

What do you think the long term implications will be in Ireland? Will those who are working from home continue to wfh? That would have big implications for people who normally commute and might see more people move out of the cities, leading to a reduction in house prices there? Will free healthcare for everyone become the norm? Will they do away with the Leaving Cert. altogether and switch to continuous assessment? I mean, we've managed without it for two years now. I don't have any of the answers obviously. Just thinking it over.

My Dad is due to get his vaccination on Wednesday so I'm really happy about that Smile.

M0rT · 07/03/2021 12:14

I found Mumsnet looking for advice on laptops of all things Grin
It was at least five years ago, not sure exactly when.
I lurked for years before registering to talk on the low carb boot camp thread. So far that has been unsuccessful but all fault is mine, it's very helpful with recipes and support. Some people have put a lot of work into helping others with no return.
I'm very appreciative of that.
Have name changed a few times.
I really like Craicnet for the "home" feeling, especially these days when RL contact is so limited.
I was thinking of @Lipz yesterday as I was stopped at a checkpoint. Made me think about how honesty didn't serve you.
I just said I was going home(true) and where I had been (also true) but I could easily have lied. She just waved me on and said have a good weekend.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 07/03/2021 12:33

I was on Rollercoaster for ages, and saw this site mentioned there. I checked it out and never went back. I've been here for a few years, definitely six years, but don't post much. Just here and in Books, but I hop around and read threads on other boards.

I've been a lot 'chattier' since lockdown, probably missing daily interaction with people.

FionaMacCool · 07/03/2021 13:51

I've been here, maybe 9years now. Cant be sure.
There was a thread here which was a bit snotty about Irish names, and it was linked on Rollercoaster, where I lurked (never joined, Ireland too small, and didn't want to be recognised).
I came over here for a gander, liked what I saw and have spent too much time here since.

Agree that I probably interact with 'people' more here due to lockdown.

I am looking forward to the freedom to just go...to wander off to the beach because it's a nice morning here; or to do a run to Dublin on a Saturday, to do nothing more exciting that wander down Grafton Street.
I want to call to my sisters without feeling guilty that I might bring illness with me. I want to go to physical clothes shops, and people-watch to see what are the coming trends.

Emeraldshamrock · 07/03/2021 14:09

Speaking of the Island. What do think of the case of Noah Donohoe it is really awful the lack of investigation into why he hide in the storm drain and why he was naked is terrible.
I watched an interview with his DM she is doing great work fight for an investigation.
I'm not familiar with the area he was discovered.
He was a beautiful DC.
How they assumed no suspicious circumstances is awful.

MarDhea · 07/03/2021 15:39

I started using MN when I was living in the UK and DC1 was a tiny baby. It was really useful but I always found a bit of a cultural gap between the Irish approach to children and children rearing and the predominantly British outlook on MN. (And the frequency of anti-Irish posts really got to me, sometimes).

Back in Ireland now and I rarely use MN for parenting stuff any more... just feminism, craicnet, and occasional time wasting Grin

MarDhea · 07/03/2021 15:39

*childrearing that should be...

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/03/2021 16:04

Another thread! Thank you Smile

I used Rollercoaster for years and found out about MN on that site. I think I was drawn to it because DH & I spent many years living in the UK so I'm familiar with the way of life and opinions etc. I've been around here for a long time but have name changed a few times. I love how active this board is now, it's nice to have other Irish posters to interact with. Particularly in light of covid as our approach and outcomes have been different to the UK.

I miss going out for meals. I like the pub but like restaurants even more!! I have a group of girlfriends who I used to go out for dinner and drinks with regularly. I'd also go out with my mum and sisters a fair bit. I miss all that so much. And of course (as I'm sure I've moaned about on here many times) I am SO SICK of the constant planning/shopping/cooking/clearing up for 3 meals a day 7 day as a week...

I don't think we're going to have much of an opening after 5th April. I'm so annoyed at how slow the rollout of the vaccine has been and I just don't think we'll have done enough by then to open things up. I hope I'm wrong.

Oh and I desperately want - no NEED - to get my hair done!!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/03/2021 16:07

@Emeraldshamrock that story is heartbreaking and infuriating in equal measure. My personal feeling on it is that it was sectarian and the police know more about it but the powers that be are afraid it will destabilise the situation there. I just don't know how his mammy copes. It's beyond comprehension Sad

JaneJeffer · 07/03/2021 16:08

Anyone else feeling anxious about having to socialise again or is it just me?

JollyGreenGiantess · 07/03/2021 17:31

Oh totally anxious about socialising or even just goi g to a full office.

Came to MN about 14? years ago - via a thread on my professional website highlighting Xenia slagging off state school teachers. I never left 😂

mrsfeatherbottom · 07/03/2021 17:40

I used to love Magicmum - started using it about 15 years ago when I had two miscarriages and then through two pregnancies. It was brilliant.

eggandonion · 07/03/2021 18:16

I used rollercoaster a lot, mostly for the incredible arguments which kept me amused. I used mumsnet for more grown up stuff. Mumsnet is morphing into rollercoaster recently, this is fairly cosy and the protestant traybakes threads are brilliant when they appear.
I wish Noah had stayed at home that day, wouldn't you love to rewind time for his mum. There's a missing bit of the puzzle, I hope it is found. Theres a photo of Tommy Bowe in school, presenting rugby jerseys I think. Noah is almost beside him.
I think I will be a bit anxious as we move forward to normal life. I need to be certain that the vaccine is working, yet I can't imagine worrying about going for a coffee in a cafe.
