Radyward · 28/03/2021 11:49

I am near soul destroyed at this stage
Its just too hard the LD and no sign of relief atall !!! Its so terrible. Like the people of Ireland are forgotten about by the govt. Do they even care on their guaranteed wages? Asking daddys to stay at home on 350 a week and not provide for their families a year in is just ignored bu the media. Ireland is becoming so split into the haves where savings are shooting up and the have nots who are in dire straits. Only for the grace of god we arent in hospitality . The beacon ceo needs to resign right now. If you want to protest or show dissent you are treated as a lefty loony anti vaxer. I mean being anti LD doesnt make me a crazy person but that tone is there by the Honchos in RTE who are in the hse back pocket with covid ad revenues. Anyone see george lee blaming the pubs and restaurants that are cLosed months on six1. #bangeorgelee is trending on twitter.
My dh reckons the govt is in disarray as they have no where to go now as we are at top level and no reduction in cases but reductions in people in hosp ( which to me is the only stat that matters ) the fact of which is not celebrated at all. If nphet say again just a bit nore asked of you i will go mental !!!

LizzieAnt · 28/03/2021 12:38

Apparently there's been a big increase in the numbers using takeaway restaurants, cafes etc, which is what George Lee was trying to report. However, he forgot to add the word 'takeaway', which was a bit of an oversight, and made the report ridiculous.

Apileofballyhoo · 28/03/2021 12:50

Surely people aren't spreading it by getting takeaway?

Did anyone see the thing about UK government buildings flying the Union Flag at all times?

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/03/2021 13:04

I'd love to a bootcamp week or weekend. Never thought I'd hear myself that but I feel so good mentally after excersise. I'd love to go somewhere that'll teach me about food too. I think I eat relatively healthy most of the time but am I really.

FionaMacCool · 28/03/2021 13:12

Radyward, are you currently living in Ireland?

Radyward · 28/03/2021 13:34

Not that its anyones business but yes i reside in the ROI. What ,only people resident can comment on craicnet / scotsnet etc etc #forumpolicenext
I have relatives in wales who read the indo daily, arent they allowed to have an opinion on the shambles Ireland is in now ????

Taytocrisps · 28/03/2021 13:53

You could sign up for next year's 'Operation Transformation' Iblinked - you'd have all of Craicnet cheering you on.

I can't believe the hotel quarantine thing is just up and running and they've already had three 'guests' abscond. I assumed the three people had travelled here together but it looks like it was two separate incidents. I think they had similar incidents in Australia also (or was it New Zealand?). I caught a radio interview with the guy in charge of the quarantine programme there and he said at first they used to allow the residents out of their rooms for exercise but they had a few incidents where people tried to escape so they had to confine them to their rooms after that.

I don't think the Sligo family will get much sympathy. To be fair, they had booked their flights before the quarantine was introduced. And it's costing them €6,000. If they'd flown home a week or two earlier, they'd have saved themselves a very significant sum of money. It was very bad timing. But appealing the quarantine and describing the hotel rooms as unsafe, appalling, horrendous etc. is a bit OTT. They should be glad it's just for 12 days and the family don't have to live there for months on end like so many of our homeless families.

@NewjobOldme

Now we know why we are in a pandemic! A broken Hayfield mirror. Grin
Whoops, sorry. [embarrassed]

If anyone has suggestions about anything that can be to make amends — crawling anti-clockwise around the Drombeg stone circle or swimming laps of the Lough, or sitting on Patrick St in a bath of baked beans — I will pass them on to DS. Grin

I wouldn't comment on Wales or Scotland as I don't live there.

The Grin was in response to Lucent post above.

Well, their opinion would be of limited relevance if they were basing it on reading the Independent from abroad rather than actually living in Ireland, yes.
3timeslucky · 28/03/2021 14:57

Did the government not look into how it was done in other countries- what country did it successfully and what was their modus operandi ?
And follow suit

Not much it seems.

Australia would be one of the obvious ones to emulate (not perfect but they've been doing it for a year and have learned on the way). So they allow no exercise breaks because it lead to transmission. We're allowing 3 breaks a day. They hired and trained and well-paid security staff to avoid double-jobbing for example because they had cases of it going into the community via security staff. They deliver all food to the doors but not even allowing doors near or across from each other to be opened at the same time because they had transmission that way. It feels like we were hoping having it was a deterrent and that would be enough.

Three escapes on day one is really bad. It seems they caught the one on their own; and one of the twosome handed themselves in. It doesn't say much about the implementation.

3timeslucky · 28/03/2021 14:58

@HaHaVeryBunny

Have just seen reported in The Sunday Times that the British are planning to offer Ireland 3.5 million doses...
When they've finished their own programme. At that stage there may well be plenty to go round anyway. But if it comes when we still need it, happy days.
Iblinkedandiamold · 28/03/2021 15:39

This is a very long day. I feel like the clocks have gone back instead of forwards. I am so bored and it's horrible outside.

Apileofballyhoo · 28/03/2021 15:43

The weather makes a difference to the mood all right, blinked. Feels very dreary today.

FraterculaArctica · 28/03/2021 15:51

Can I join this thread? We should be trying to move to Ireland (from the UK) this summer but really scared of having to do it "blind" without being able to visit first. Also wondering what will be the point if there's lockdown all year and it's just sitting in a new house on the other side of the Irish Sea. It's not clear to me at all whether travel between the UK and Ireland will be allowed sooner than travel elsewhere.

Iblinkedandiamold · 28/03/2021 16:08

@FraterculaArctica it's hard to know what to do isnt it. Sometimes I feel like it's one step forward and ten backwards. This time last year I really didnt think we'd still be in this type of lockdown.
Hopefully by the summer we'll have some more freedom.

Emeraldshamrock · 28/03/2021 16:10

I've ignored the weather the weekend I've a mini skip on hire until Monday to clear the garden and shed, the grass isn't cut but front and back looks great. My body is aching power washing in the wind.

ShteakandShpuds · 28/03/2021 16:12

Whereabouts roughly are you planning to live @FraterculaArctica?

God , this cold howling wind is really getting me down today. Sad

MarDhea · 28/03/2021 16:12

It might be better to start your own thread in Craicnet about it Frater - so much depends on whether you have kids and their ages, whereabouts you're considering moving, whether you have friends or family in the area already, etc. There have been several similar threads and people are happy to give advice when there's space to get into a discussion of the specifics.

For what it's worth, I know one family who moved home to Ireland from the UK last summer, and despite lockdowns they haven't regretted a thing. Kids are happier in school (and have had more time in school this year in Ireland than they would have had in England, apparently), the 5km limit hasn't bothered them as much as they expected because they prefer where they live now and lockdown meant they didn't stir much outside their own area in England either, and they have benefitted from being closed to family (mostly socially distant walks these days etc.). It will all depend on your circumstances.

Emeraldshamrock · 28/03/2021 16:15

@FraterculaArctica Things will be better in summer hopefully even if in lockdown with brighter weather neighbours are in gardens, passing by, people are smiling winter in lockdown was awful.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 28/03/2021 16:15

Hello FraterculaArtica, welcome to the thread.

If you have children attending school, it would be worth while settling in before the return to school in September. There are threads on that subject on this board.

I would not move anywhere without researching, visiting or spending time in the place.

As for travel, we don't have a clue what's going to happen next week, never mind in the Summer Grin. I don't think traveling is on the agenda, though.

MysweetAudrina · 28/03/2021 16:16

I popped into one of the asymtomatic test centres yesterday and got a swab, text me back with a negative result today. We have a week booked in Cork, the June bank holiday week but am not too hopeful.

IwishIwasontheN17 · 28/03/2021 16:19

Christ on a bike the weather today. In fact Christ wouldn’t have risked going out on his bike in this weather.
