Who thought that would ever happen!!? Has there even been a sixth page before?

@CherryValanc

Shocking. But are we surprised?
Not a bit
Mayzee · 26/03/2021 16:18

Not surprised and have heard other stories of my own GP practice slipping vaccines into relatives etc not due themAngry I am livid though because my dad has cancer, is under 70 and not a word about his vaccine. We would get him to any location in jig time if there was a chance of getting him vaccinated.
I will be distraught if the schools don’t open in April. My 13 yr old has fallen so far behind, needs help from teachers because he has recently diagnosed adhd and also needs the school to do a dyslexia assessment so he can maybe get a language exemption.
I’m glad he’s first year because there is time to catch up but the longer he’s off, the more I fear he will become unteachable Sad

3timeslucky · 26/03/2021 17:38

DoE has announced all children are going back to school 12th April. I might have a little tear well up in my eye. Let's drink to that milestone! I'm so happy they're getting to go back.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 26/03/2021 17:39

Yes, thankfully.

ismiseeire · 26/03/2021 18:54

Can I poke my nose around the door too?

Have any of you seen this article? There is footage of the first travellers arriving. One woman kicks up some sort of a fuss. Not surprising really, given the price tag for their stay - €1875!

first travellers returning to quarantine in Dublin

ismiseeire · 26/03/2021 18:55

Who the hell has almost €2k lying around??

ismiseeire · 26/03/2021 18:55

If they intended it to act as a deterrent, they'll have achieved it with that price tag!

CherryValanc · 26/03/2021 19:10

It's similar cost in other counties with hotel quarantine i think.

These travel restrictions really needed to be i place 12 months ago. My mum (who still lives in the UK) knows someone whose been over repeatedly all year. I thinks she (my mum) is really annoyed now. She's not been home since Dec 2019

@ladyEloise I decided I'd change names and literally couldn't think of anything. I'd been on their website earlier and decided that would do. I kinda wanted something Irish and couldn't think of anything.
I saw JaneJeffers name after and remembered been Ceadagam at one stage and chatting with her. Jane's is a clever name!
for some reason I didn't see my previous names when changing but Dunnes will do for nowGrin

Apileofballyhoo · 26/03/2021 19:34

But can we call you Ben or Margaret, Dunnes?

Hi ismise, - adds quite a bit to travel costs, doesn't it?

ismiseeire · 26/03/2021 19:38

Does the quarantine apply to business travellers also, or just leisure travel?

ismiseeire · 26/03/2021 19:42

Just watched that video again and the woman seems to be saying that there is no covid in Africa! Who knew? Can't quite catch what she's saying about her feet however. Was a little surprised to see the army involved.

HerculaPoirot · 26/03/2021 19:56

The army is to show we are serious about it, I guess. My sister's adopted country had the army escort passengers to mandatory quarantine too, and they were on duty in the hotels to ensure people didn't try to leave. Quarantine cost about the same as Ireland, we joked that we'd visit as you'd never get full board at that price normally.

Barmbraic · 26/03/2021 20:23

Really random off topic question...can anyone recommend a kitchen supplier in the Dublin area? I have a builder lined up for as soon as the building restrictions lift but my kitchen supplier has just told me they won't be able to do my kitchen until November Shock

halfpasteleven · 26/03/2021 20:24

The Beacon debacle is sickening.
And what makes it worse, is that the CEO or whatever his title is, will just apologise and that will be it. No repercussions for him. They have no fear. To leave out vulnerable patients , eg that woman who had fever and lived cand prioritise teachers at his children's fee paying school.. no compassion.

halfpasteleven · 26/03/2021 20:26

I'll try again ( toddler is asleep on my arm..
That woman who has cancer and lived close by - to not seek her out as a priority ... it beggars belief.
The brown envelope is alive and well in Ireland still..

LadyEloise · 26/03/2021 20:36

* Dunnesstores*
If you have any influence with said Margaret ( not Ben - he's not involved with the retail end Smile) could you ask her to get their act together. Lots of stuff for sale online is out of stock online but in the shops it's there behind the yellow tape ( like a crime scene ) but you can't buy it because of restrictions and level playing field with closed retail outlets. Which is Fair enough.
But could they not move that stuff to the online warehouse so people could buy it while it's still relatively in season ?

halfpasteleven · 26/03/2021 20:50

But could they not move that stuff to the online warehouse so people could buy it while it's still relatively in season ?

This! How has it not occurred to them to move the stock back online so it will sell while it is still in season?

Iblinkedandiamold · 26/03/2021 21:16

Hi everyone, welcome @Dunnesstores and @ismiseeire. I am so looking forward to the 2 week break.
Our afterschoolers had their books sent home too, they didnt at Christmas. There was a note saying not to socialise for the 2 week break which makes no sense when they are in school together anyway.
Lockdown clearly isnt working so time to start actually living with Covid no existing with Covid.

Also what is the story with the weather, how can I go from cutting my lawn a few days ago to snow today.
It's crazy.

Dunnesstores · 26/03/2021 21:28

I've stopped shopping in Dunnes for groceries, it's too depressing seeing clothes so near but so far!

I wonder how much of a deterrent quarantine will be. Why could afford that amount plus stuck in a hotel room for 12 days. There again if I was on my own I could be forced to sit back and do nothing at all.

Apileofballyhoo · 26/03/2021 21:29

Did anyone see the six one news? Apparently George Lee said the high numbers are due to pubs, restaurants and cafes.

Does anyone know where I can book a nice meal in one of the open ones?

Emeraldshamrock · 26/03/2021 21:53

There isn't enough uproar over the Beacon stunt.
They ignored strict protocol and excused it by mentioning it is a free service to the HSE.
The HSE has enabled private healthcare to become so lucrative with the terrible service they provide.
I paid out more last year on private appointments for the DC due to waiting lists.
Still cheaper using PAYG private than a monthly health insurance premium, we couldn't afford that.

Emeraldshamrock · 26/03/2021 21:56

Apparently George Lee said the high numbers are due to pubs, restaurants and cafes. Must be shebeen pubs. 🤣

Dunnesstores · 26/03/2021 22:00

Did George Lee say that, what does he mean, how's that possible?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/03/2021 22:27

I didn't watch the 6/1 this evening but the article on The Journal about the DOE insisting second level will return as planned on 12th April says "it us understood that clusters in schools are being monitored closely and no concerns have been flagged as long as case numbers stay below 1,000 to 1,500 per day" WHAT?! Since when did those sort of numbers become the benchmark?? I'm gobsmacked at that. And if that is the case, why haven't we been told? And more importantly why haven't we opened up?!

As for Dunnes Stores... I'm sure I've moaned about it on here before but it's so frustrating they have the worst website ever! Hardly anything on it. My local Dunnes is a small one and still there's always loads of lovely stuff in store that's never on the website. I just don't understand it. It's such bad business! Surely in this day & age (I sound like my mother) your website is akin to your right arm? @Dunnesstores have a word will you? Wink
