Hi everyone,
I'm just introducing myself and hoping it's ok to join in. I've seen these threads for ages but assumed they were discussing our lockdown onlyBlush
I've been on MN a long time under other user names and also the Irish HM site but I'm taking a break from there the last while as a few very regular members tend to only post about doom and gloom and have a negative outlook on a lot of topics in general. I found since this lock down started I wasn't enjoying it like normal so I've taken a break but miss the chat.

Emeraldshamrock · 26/03/2021 11:00

@Dunnesstores Love the username. Smile
Welcome.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 26/03/2021 11:12

Welcome Dunnesstores. Hope you enjoy the craic on here Wink

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 26/03/2021 11:13

@Emeraldshamrock

Bad news with the Beacon hospital CEO Michael Cullen The Irish Daily Mail reports this morning that the Dublin hospital gave “leftover vaccines” to 20 teachers and staff from St Gerard’s Catholic school in Bray. Fee paying school.

The Mail reports children of the CEO of the Beacon attend the fee-paying school in Bray.

Disgraceful considering there are public schools, pharmacist, a gardai station all within the 5km of the hospital.
Why isn't there a priority shortlist for vulnerable people with vaccines left over.

Seems like it was prearranged.

Cronyism, isn't it.
eggandonion · 26/03/2021 11:24

Not a good look. Although I am now wondering if teachers, snas, supermarket staff should be prioritised as they are all in the community. Would they create a firebreak ?(hairdressers...) People I know in pharmacies and opticians have been vaccinated, thankfully.
Welcome Dunnes, we do tend to wander off topic. And occasionally have the craic.

3timeslucky · 26/03/2021 11:25

@CherryValanc

Biden is trying his best to get a service station names after him isn't he.

Had to go on my GP survery's website the other day. They have some application thing up where people need to register an interest in getting the vaccine.

Is it just mt GP that's doing that?

Mine is but they're part of a large healthcare group. I doubt it'll prevent anyone getting it if they're not signed up though.

Given it is a hospital I'd have thought they could have found enough patients to give it to without even going outside the hospital. I doubt there'd be any kind of outcry about that.

You'd think the message would have got across after the Coombe incident.

There is supposed to be a priority list. They're supposed to work down the list. Given teachers are in group 11 there's just no excuse.

Numpties.

I would be in favour of it, yes.
Emeraldshamrock · 26/03/2021 11:38

Teachers and Gardai should be prioritised they're up close and personal in confined spaces.
I'd imagine the news will cause great upset, he may be forced to resign judging by the golf club fiasco.

Apileofballyhoo · 26/03/2021 11:47

I'm also in favour of teachers getting it but definitely not in the Beacon hospital way. Very difficult for teachers to maintain distance from children, especially smaller ones.

Dunnes I was on the first thread of these maybe, one of them anyway at some stage and I just jumped in on this one without asking permission nor forgiveness. So far nobody told me to feck off. There is definitely craic to be had and nice responses to moans. I got very down recently and this thread has really helped me.

anomletteandaglassofwine · 26/03/2021 11:49

Surely when the private Beacon hospital gave the surplus vaccines to the staff at the private school of the CEO's children, they knew the story would get out? Particularly after the Coombe debacle. Presumably they just don't care, people will forget about it, and they'll still be vaccinated. It's very annoying but I can't say I'm that surprised.

In good news, my 76 year old mum got a call about her vaccine, appointment next week! Such a relief, fingers crossed it will actually go ahead.

Dd is desperately hoping that today is her last day ever of homeschooling, and she'll be back after the Easter holidays. I really hope so too, it will break her heart if secondary schools have to stay closed for the younger classes because of the numbers. I have heard that some primary teachers are sending school books home 'just in case' 😩

Apileofballyhoo · 26/03/2021 11:56

My DM is getting her first shot next Wednesday. 79. Meant to announce to the thread yesterday after speaking to her!

HerculaPoirot · 26/03/2021 12:26

My DD's school have sent their books home. They did it for October midterm and Christmas holidays too. The Principal says he is just being over cautious, and to assume the school will reopen after Easter.

Dunnesstores · 26/03/2021 13:14

Thanks for the welcomes, I'm looking forward to some chat and craic, they're both short on the ground these days.

I never even thought of books, I've just sent my dd a text to clear her locker so thanks for the heads up.
In the middle of texting it struck me how mad it is that it's now normal to send that type of message. Could any of us have imagined this even 13 months ago?

Emeraldshamrock · 26/03/2021 13:15

We got our books home too. I can't believe they're off again for 2 weeks.
I was enjoying the break. Wink
Desperate for the secondary school DC still at home. The boost in mine was noticeable back in school.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/03/2021 13:31

Welcome @Dunnesstores this group has been a lifeline for me this past year, I hope you enjoy the craic and madness Grin

My primary schooler didn't come home with books so I'm very happy about that! Of course, they didn't last time either and we had to go to the school to collect them so I'm still a bit wary but for now I'm taking it as a positive! The other DC desperately needs to go back to secondary school, even 'attending' the online classes isn't enough they need to actually be there to be able to focus properly etc. So I'm really hoping that happens...

SionnachRua · 26/03/2021 13:45

We didn't send books back in my school either. It's just unnecessary to stress the kids out with thoughts of closure imo. Sure we'd have to open the building for collections anyway if we did close but I just don't see it happening.

knocks on wood

MarDhea · 26/03/2021 14:17

Welcome Dunnes - I flit in and out of here but always read it to catch up, and lurk sometimes on HM too so perhaps I've seen you before!

Had to go for a covid test this morning and I swear my sinuses are still bruised 😣 No symptoms and 99.9% sure I'll test negative so not worried at least.

NewjobOldme · 26/03/2021 14:18

We didn't have books sent home today but we did at Christmas. We got a text from secondary school today pleading with us not to allow socialising at Easter so that they can go back on the 12th of April. We've been very strict and dd is really missing her friends so I hope she gets to go back.

LadyEloise · 26/03/2021 14:42

Welcome @Dunnesstores to the thread.
What's with the username ? Smile
Mine is because I like the name Eloise but I have had sooo many name changes. Blush
I often recommend Dunnes on the Style and Beauty threads. I presume they deliver to the UK.

The Beacon debacle is disgusting- there was a woman on Claire Byrne this morning whose mother had cancer, she was a patient of a medic in the Beacon. She hasn't had the vaccine. She lives near to the Beacon not in another county (like St. Gerards school in Wicklow).

What's the Irish HM site ?

It would make you so angry.

thelegohooverer · 26/03/2021 15:27

I had one dc off school today and the other arrived home with a bag full of books. Ironically at Christmas it was the other way round.

Fingers crossed the schools will go back after Easter.

My mil got her vaccine early by asking to be put on the gp’s cancellation list. On the one hand I’m relieved for her, but I really think there should be a better policy than giving the spares to the well connected/ pushiest.

@MarDhea I felt like they were going in for a brain sample when I got mine done.

@Dunnesstores welcome and love the username.

Fuming - the utter arrogance of that CEO. I wonder who (rightly) let the cat out of the bag - could be someone working in the Beacon or maybe a school staff member who missed out.
CherryValanc · 26/03/2021 15:37

Shocking. But are we surprised?
