Here's a link for anyone who might want to listen, it's quite short contact tracing

Wildern · 25/03/2021 16:11

@IsFuzzyBeagMise

I'm often in the frozen section of SV trying to reach the Ben and Jerry's ice-cream on the top shelf. (Why do they put the nice stuff up so high?!)
Sadistic shelf-stackers hiding behind the tins of peas giggling at short people desperate for icecream?

@LifeInAHamsterWheel, you clearly shop in a more genteel supermarket than I do. Our wine aisle looks like the last helicopter out of Saigon!

3timeslucky · 25/03/2021 16:14

I heard it. It was depressing. She was so defensive at the end. It was a real "I'm following the rules so don't question me" attitude.

If we don't trace back to the source then we don't know where else it has gone and we never learn anything about the spread and problem behaviours/environments that are leading to outbreaks. We basically get to continue running round putting out fires as they break out without knowing why it is happening. It is like a protracted game of Whack-a-Mole. I am fed up of playing Sad

eggandonion · 25/03/2021 16:35

What annoys me is that I can never remember what time wine is allowed to be bought. You can go through the plastic gates in Dunnes, and put wine in the trolley, but then Eileen at the till sighs and tells you that it's not time yet. That's no fun.
My son has a partner whose mammy is ten years younger than me. I don't know if she's in the granny bullying age group. I can knit, I want to knit, I want to buy vests.

Absolutely agree 3timeslucky.
Thanks for the link LifeInAHamsterWheel.
In the papers today, Leo was very defeatist about our chances of getting the numbers to fall below the present figures, blaming the new variant that's widespread here now. Improving/overhauling the contact tracing system would surely help.

3timeslucky · 25/03/2021 18:35

@Apileofballyhoo

At what age can I bully my kids to provide grandchildren? My DS is only 13 but I wouldn't mind skipping a few teenage years if I could have GC sooner.

(Why do they put the nice stuff up so high?!) Spite?

If you're agile enough to scale the shelves to the top and get the ice-cream then you're fit and healthy and allowed have it. They opted for this approach instead of listing the sugar and fat content and trusting us to make good decisions.
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 25/03/2021 18:48

Ah. That sounds like the Karl Henry approach to buying ice-cream Grin

LizzieAnt · 25/03/2021 18:58

It does Grin

That's very depressing about the track and trace. No wonder it's spreading all over the place. If they can't figure out out when we're on level 5 they haven't a hope when it's opened back up. New variant my hole, that's even more reason to have a robust tracing system. They've had a whole year to sort this shit out.

And rant over. Thought of the thread on the frozen food aisle in SV. Ben and Jerry's is on the middle shelf in mine fuzzy and it's on offer. They're clearly not concerned about fat and sugar. I think the Magnum tubs might be the high up ones - maybe they're worse than B&J?

AnnieJ1985 · 25/03/2021 21:08

I am just home from SV, I should have done a live stream from the Pringles...

NewjobOldme · 25/03/2021 21:12

I'm totally fed up but the numbers aren't giving me confidence for restrictions loosening any time soon.
I have a young teen dd who is dire need of new bras. I've measured her but she really doesn't know what style she likes/needs without seeing them. I'd prefer not to have to pay to order loads and then send back. I need to get her to a shop.

SionnachRua · 25/03/2021 21:45

Off topic but I got a chuckle out of this Biden quote: v.redd.it/74ofsvctz7p61

He seems like a man who'd enjoy arethebritsatitagain.com/ (And you know MN would go into conniptions over that site too).

Apileofballyhoo · 25/03/2021 21:52

I wouldn't mind but I was watching that presser, but I kind of tuned out, what did he say sionnach? He's a gas man.

SionnachRua · 25/03/2021 22:32

"That's not how it happens. People don't want to leave. When my great grandfather got on a coffin ship in the Irish sea. Expectation was he going to live long enough on that ship to get to the United States of America. But they left because of what the Brits had been doing. They were in real real trouble. They didn't want to leave, but they had no choice."

The clip of him saying it above should be opening up but the site seems to be playing up! Not sure what that's about. Someone's prob linked it on Twitter and it's crashed again Grin

HaHaVeryBunny · 26/03/2021 07:55

I see ireland will be getting 1% of the doses that where found in EU raid in Italy so that's an extra 160,000 on top of the dosages that were due in for April...

But back to alcohol, the Pink G&Ts in Aldi are only €1.49 (compared to the Gordons dry gin which is 3 quid a tin in Tesco), it seems to be a favourite, judging by the amount of women l see with it in their trolleys and yeah it tastes good too.

CherryValanc · 26/03/2021 08:13

Biden is trying his best to get a service station names after him isn't he.

Had to go on my GP survery's website the other day. They have some application thing up where people need to register an interest in getting the vaccine.

Is it just mt GP that's doing that?

I checked mine and didn't see anything.
M0rT · 26/03/2021 08:21

I saw an article yesterday saying they were going to start tracing from the 31st March, was a bit of a surprise as I'd thought it was called Track&Trace because they had been doing that all year!
How can they say where clusters have started if they are not tracing?
On the pink G&Ts could anyone recommend one of those can type alcoholic drinks that's based on vodka/rum?
I just don't like Gin and I think this summer will be a return to my youth and drinking in fields Wink

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/03/2021 10:38

@M0rT look out for cosmopolitans, mojitos or martinis! Or you could just make your own, I've often made up a huge jug of raspberry martini and it's very easy to drink. Vodka, cranberry juice, soda water and Mickey Finns raspberry liqueur all mixed together with plenty of ice (crushed if you can be bothered) it is divine.

M0rT · 26/03/2021 10:44

@LifeInAHamsterWheel thanks for that. I will make some practice jugs before summer... just to be sure I'm getting it right Wink

Emeraldshamrock · 26/03/2021 10:46

Bad news with the Beacon hospital CEO Michael Cullen
The Irish Daily Mail reports this morning that the Dublin hospital gave “leftover vaccines” to 20 teachers and staff from St Gerard’s Catholic school in Bray. Fee paying school.

The Mail reports children of the CEO of the Beacon attend the fee-paying school in Bray.

Disgraceful considering there are public schools, pharmacist, a gardai station all within the 5km of the hospital.
Why isn't there a priority shortlist for vulnerable people with vaccines left over.

Seems like it was prearranged.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/03/2021 10:47

Oh god yes, you'll have to practice for sure. You want it to be perfect so that when the time comes we're allowed visitors at home you can offer them a posh drink Grin

Emeraldshamrock · 26/03/2021 10:55

@LifeInAHamsterWheel It sounds delicious worth crushing the ice for.
@M0rT I'd bet we'll see a huge increase of adults drinking in the field, with blankets and fancy glasses 🍷
