A sixth thread in Craicnet!!

Who thought that would ever happen!!? Has there even been a sixth page before?

Note to self: Do not hold toddler and try to post at the same time!
On the Six One news this evening was what I meant to type!
George Lee was explaining it- I didn't quite catch it all as said toddler was being quite vocal at the time!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 24/03/2021 21:20

I knew what you meant :) I'm watching the Nine at the moment!

Apileofballyhoo · 24/03/2021 21:29

I knew you meant the six one news too. What did they say on the 9, fuzzy? Any amazing insights?

CherryValanc · 24/03/2021 21:34

@Postprandial I think there's been a growing insanity in Britain increasingly so fr the past two decades. A real narrow-minded blinkered bitter and backward thinking attitude . Not sure what caused it but I include my family that still live in it. I grew up there and don't understand why people I knew think like they do now.

It culminated in Brexit. You can definitely see it in the threads on here about vaccines and the EU.

Read and interesting article about it. Must see if I can refine it.

Hmm...Apile, let's see...

Britain and the EU will cooperate on the vaccine issue.
Mary Lou is asking for direction from the government with regard to the easing of restrictions.
George Lee says gloomily, that numbers are going in the wrong direction.
Cork is going to get a very large skyscraper of a building at 34 storeys high in the docklands.
Weather: it is going to rain.

eggandonion · 24/03/2021 22:12

My daughter works for a civil engineering company in Dublin, except she has been in Cork all year. Shes very excited about the developments, if properly handled. By which she means she gets to work on them!
We are annoyed at the soccer results, after the rugby.
Our dog is about the size of a cocker spaniel, for some reason he decided he could fit into a shoebox. That amused us for ten minutes.
Most people we know in the UK voted remain, and were upset by Brexit. But they are very smug about the vaccine, whilst ignoring the horrific death toll. It's so expensive to buy houses and access schools in the Dublin area, it's difficult for Irish emigrants to consider escaping Boris.

Mary Lou should be asking why the numbers are going in the wrong direction!

Dare you to go in to the thread and mention the high death toll cant be overlooked.

You'll need more than armour and a hard hat.

Yes, I hope so. The vaccine threads on here though! Who knew that the EU is the root of all evil?!

CherryValanc · 25/03/2021 08:11

Actually no, don't mention the death total that's too cruel on the families.

Though I dare you to say a higher percentage of Ireland's population is fully vaccinated than in the UK.

eggandonion · 25/03/2021 09:21

Is anyone finding the lack of craic difficult to deal with?
I'm going to super valu later, probably before lunch but maybe after. There will be very little craic.

JaneJeffer · 25/03/2021 09:23

3timeslucky · 25/03/2021 09:38

On the meeting parents who have been vaccinated question. The government is supposed to be working on guidelines for what vaccinated people can do (so who knows when they'll release those!) You need 7-10 days after the second vaccination for full protection. But even then you can transmit to other people so the issue isn't that you give your parents something, but that they give it to you and off you go back to your family/work/community and spread it round. Both WHO and CDC have said where both parties are fully vaccinated they can meet reasonably freely. Given the pace of vaccination here that's a really depressing prospect.

Emeraldshamrock · 25/03/2021 09:40

Though I dare you to say a higher percentage of Ireland's population is fully vaccinated than in the UK. I'd have to be really brave. Grin

Yes I'm missing the craic too, I can't wait to start living again.

halfpasteleven · 25/03/2021 12:35

Routine appointment with my DS at 2 and will have to bring the toddler. I seriously thought about dressing her up in frilly dress, tights and shoes - because why not?! So many lovely outfits hanging in her wardrobe that she has and will outgrow. Sad
It's pouring rain outside now ( there goes my line of towels) so I'll be wrapping her up warmly but for a moment there I had the dress chosen and hanging out on the door of the wardrobe...

The "visiting the vaccinated" as I will call it from now on sure is complicated.. but I really didn't expect it to be straight forward given the way things are going lately ..

Wildern · 25/03/2021 13:08

@JaneJeffer

Yes, @JaneJeffer found the missing craic at the back of the hot press.

We could have a small, socially-distanced party in the frozen food aisle of SuperValu...

Apileofballyhoo · 25/03/2021 13:45

I had massive craic with a stranger in SV frozen food aisle one day, do I get a prize?

eggandonion · 25/03/2021 14:08

I bought the wine of the month with my vouchers. I know nothing about wine, but it's free if you use vouchers. I suppose I didn't buy it with the vouchers because that's not allowed any more. Another way the craic is gone. I'd happily have a meet up in the aisles.
I have no idea what is hanging in my wardrobe, I only wear folded up stuff not hanging up stuff.
My daughter bought a pair of shoes online, and doesn't know if they fit, having spent the year in slippers and runners.
I wish I had a toddler to dress up. At what age can I bully my kids to provide grandchildren?

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 25/03/2021 14:52

I'm often in the frozen section of SV trying to reach the Ben and Jerry's ice-cream on the top shelf. (Why do they put the nice stuff up so high?!)

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/03/2021 15:02

I have met a neighbour several times recently in Tesco and stood for ages having a great chat. I met her as I was coming out of the shop the other day, and she said in all seriousness "oh I was looking forward to meeting you for a chat in the wine aisle!" Blush But still I feel the wine section is a good place to meet, it's not too crowded and you don't catch a chill like you would if you met near the milk or the frozen yorkshire puddings Grin

Apileofballyhoo · 25/03/2021 15:05

At what age can I bully my kids to provide grandchildren? My DS is only 13 but I wouldn't mind skipping a few teenage years if I could have GC sooner.

(Why do they put the nice stuff up so high?!) Spite?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/03/2021 15:07

We really do Sad

The doctor in charge of test & trace was on RTE 1 (radio) this morning. Worth a listen back if anyone's interested. Basically we don't actually trace! She was asked as an example if someone tested postitive and told the test & trace folk that they'd been to work, what would happen next. Doc said that the workplace would be contacted and asked about what procedures they have in place to keep people safe! Mary asked her if they get a list of contacts and then contact those people but doc said no, they don't! So it just stops there! She then got defensive and started quoting the legislation and saying that they are doing what is expected of them in terms of the legislation Hmm

What is the point really if we don't have a robust tracing system in place?
