Oops! Spent £1k on a holiday for heartbroken DD. She isn’t pregnant, which is a relief. She is very appreciative and hopefully it will help to heal her and get her back on her feet. She’s 29 and really looking to settle down and have DC in a few years so she sometimes acts like she is in the last chance saloon. I’m not sure I am much help as am very happy single and of the opinion that a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.

Didn’t spend anything else though!! 😆

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 10/07/2026 15:25

Aw Bless her @FrugalinBrighton, heartbreak is so hard 😢. That's such a lovely thing for you to do for her 👏. Hopefully the holiday helps her heal and come back feeling more like herself. She's still got plenty of time
to find someone and settle down . I asked my Dd2 what helped her because she's 30 and has been through this before 😢. She said what helped her was blocking everything to do with her ex on SM so she wasn't upset by seeing him moving on , changing her routines and distracting herself by a holiday, so well done Mummy 😁, gym and she started running club where she found her now bf . Good luck to your DD. l really hope she feels much happier very soon. You are a sweetheart @FrugalinBrighton bless you for being such a lovely Mum ❤️

32 degrees here as well. Both DD and I are tired as we didn’t sleep well in the heat, poor DP is still trying to sleep in the day!
I definitely got the most of the admission fee at soft play- we were there 5.5hrs! With admission fee and lunch/drinks it was £27 but for brilliant air con worth every penny. However the £8 parking fee because it is in the town centre hurt a bit! Also had to post some legal documents for the house move which was £8 as we wanted them signed and tracked. So £43 in total today.

RumBananaSundae · 10/07/2026 17:16

Spent about £11 in Aldi, marks and Spencer and Sainsbury. I need to stop buying yellow stickered things as I can’t get anything else in the freezer. Milk has gone up from £1.62 to £1.75 in Sainsbury’s. Paid for my boiler plan too. Renewing my current one would have been £770(!) so I declined and went for the cheapest option (£140 something) with an excess. A sure sign that everything will blow up or stop working.

That was a win at soft play @Cuwins.

Glad you’re feeling better @Frugal25. But boo to work. I had a spoon of banana Angel delight with a quarter of a strawberry on top. It was quite nice. Hope you get the bedding for an excellent price.

It’s in the 30s here too @DirtyGertiefromno30. Starting to get a bit tried of the temperature. The flat cooled to 29 overnight with the curtains and windows open. I’m looking forward to it cooling down. I’m another who joined the loosen the purse strings on groceries because it warm party so another reason to be looking forward to it cooling down.

Rubytwoshoose · 10/07/2026 17:22

A nsd for me. We went for a walk along the seafront and called into the ice cream shop for drinks but DH paid.

You definitely got value for money @Cuwins and the air con was a much needed bonus.

Glad your mum was ok and not suffering from the heat too much @DirtyGertiefromno30. Sounds like you are going into your change of eating habits with a positive attitude. What made them test you for being coeliac?
I think you said you had no symptoms.

Very kind of you to pay for a holiday to cheer your daughter up @FrugalinBrighton. I hope it helps to ease her sadness .

Glad to hear you're feeling better but 👎 for having to work in this heat.

Thanks, you are very kind. That’s lovely input from your DD. Unfortunately mine works with her ex, although they have met up for a closure chat and are both focused on staying professional and positive at work.

I am so tired today! I had to have an afternoon nap!

Frugal25 · 10/07/2026 19:16

Tell your daughter there is plenty of time @FrugalinBrightonI panicked at 30 and rushed into an engagement and tried to get pregnant as I was so convinced I was late to the party. After I got out of that mess I met my lovely man and had my beautiful DD at 40. Never too late. What a lovely mum you are though. She will remember this forever XX

Decided against the bedding. It wasn't quite right when I thought about it. Sold some bits on vinted instead.
Now trying to work out a frugal meal plan for next week so I stay on budget and get the debt gone.

Although I'm Def buying banana angel delight.

So glad your lovely mum was ok and you made new friends @DirtyGertiefromno30

I hope it cools down for you @RumBananaSundae that's so warm over night isn't it. Esp when windows are open and not helping.

FrugalinBrighton · 10/07/2026 19:35

All this talk of Angel Delight is giving me a hankering for the butterscotch flavour.

Frugal25 · 11/07/2026 07:47

Ooohhh butterscotch........

Cuwins · 11/07/2026 13:24

£110 on Tesco shop today but hopefully that’s the only spend of the day

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 11/07/2026 14:32

Sounds like you definitely got your money's worth out of soft play yesterday @Cuwinswell done! In that heat I'd have happily stayed for 5½ hours too just for the air con. The parking charge is a bit painful though, and £8 to post documents soon adds up. Fingers crossed today's Tesco shop is your only spend. Hopefully that's all the spending done now and you all get a better night's sleep tonight. 🤞

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 11/07/2026 14:36

£140 instead of £770 is a huge saving @RumBananaSundae! 😄 Brilliant !
It sounds similar to the plan we are on. Fingers crossed you won't need it at all! I'm with you on the yellow sticker bargains too the freezer can't cope with it all lol 🤣.And yes, I'll be very happy when it cools down a bit too, this heat has definitely outstayed its welcome. 🌡️😊

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 11/07/2026 14:42

A NSD and a walk along the seafront sounded like a lovely way to spend yesterday @Rubytwoshoose 🤗.
Thanks for asking about me. They tested me for Coeliac because my ferritin was low in my yearly routine blood checks . Apparently it can be a sign that the small bowel isn't absorbing nutrients properly, even if you don't have the usual symptoms. I had none whatsoever . I'm really lucky to have such a wonderful GP she's so thorough and I'm very grateful she decided to investigate it. 💕

Well done on skipping the bedding and making some Vinted sales too @Frugal25 , you did great sweetheart. A frugal meal plan is a good shout 👏, although banana Angel Delight is definitely worth making room for , like you l love the Butterscotch one the best 😍. Hope you have a lovely weekend and it's s not too hot for you. 😊

I need to join. I’ve just applied for ill health retirement - if I get it, my income will halve. I’m used to just frittering money (cos I’m fed up and in pain)!

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 11/07/2026 15:06

@notnorman you are very welcome just join in , so sorry to hear about your pain and ill health retirement. That really sucks 💐

OP posts:
FrugalinBrighton · 11/07/2026 17:01

Good luck with the IHR application @notnorman

I spent £3.50 on train fare and £12 on wine and ice cream at theatre this afternoon. Not too bad. I am not counting my theatre ticket as bought it months ago.

Lovely afternoon out.

Got to try to stay awake for the football now!

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 11/07/2026 17:58

@FrugalinBrighton me too but l can't drink caffeine it will make me pee and l will be dehydrated then 🤣.
Glad you had a lovely afternoon 😊 it sounds wonderful 👍 👏

Rubytwoshoose · 11/07/2026 19:57

Hello to @notnorman. All the best for your IHR but sorry it's necessitated by ill health.
I've been following the Rebel finance School and they've given some good tips for managing your finances by writing down everything you spend and what on. Then trying to get rid of things you're paying for that you're not using or could get cheaper, eg streaming services, gym membership, expensive phone plans, car/home insurance which you could get cheaper options that give the same service.

If you already know/do these things just ignore me 😊

My spends today £53 in Sainsbury's, £1.75 in M&S and £3 in cafe Nero. Cafes seem to feature heavily in my outings. I need to get a few things in Lidl too.

Good to hear your mum is doing well @DirtyGertiefromno30.

RumBananaSundae · 11/07/2026 20:24

£1.89 for me today in Sainsbury and Aldi. Finally bought hand soap.

Well done on the Vinted sales @Frugal25.

Rather toasty here too @DirtyGertiefromno30. Am definitely ready for it to cool down. Love it when I’m outside not so fond when I’m inside. Good that your mum is doing well.

Glad you had a nice afternoon out @FrugalinBrighton.

Welcome @notnorman. But sorry you’re in pain.

Uneventful day today but they are most welcome at this point.
