Somebody left a Cash Withdrawal receipt sticking out of the ATM in the local Morrisons. £86,398 in their account...

I'm a few miles from Glasgow. Nobody can tell me that wasn't done deliberately to elicit envy.... Well, it worked. I could really do with just the £398 right now, nevermind the £80 Grand.....😆

Whoever it was took £250 out.

Bit weird that you’re examining people’s forgotten cash receipts in that much detail.

And of course they didn’t leave it there to make people jealous ffs.

It was a perfectly reasonable thing for @Jellybelly80 to say. I view "lighten up" as being up there with "it was only a joooooke!" and "haven’t you got a sense of humour?" - the sort of thing playground bullies say.

Now you can tell me to "lighten up" or "unclench" too…

Bullying? Oh, ffs...

Probably a business account

Oh yes, I forgot to predict the "ffs".

moto748e · 15/05/2026 10:45

I am one of those terrible people who has all their money in their current account. Mostly because with interest rates what they are, it hardly seemed worth bothering with ISAs or savings accounts. Not worth the brain-strain of setting it all up, IMO. (Note: please do not try to convert me on this!). I am not by any stretch rich.

YMMV.

HelpMeGetThrough · 15/05/2026 10:45

its probably Ange, making sure the £40k had gone to HMRC.

Someone who's just had a windfall or inheritance, etc. There are reasons.

This

10DegreesNorth · 15/05/2026 10:47

Probably noone will believe me but I have over 40k in my current account and that's the lowest I've had in for a while. My husband has over a million in his as a month ago he received a partial payment relating to the sale of shares. He does need to move that out as it's losing potential interest/growth but we need to decide where it should go. We could send it to our stockbroker but we already have a load with him and need to diversify a bit. I appreciate this a v rare position to be in but it's our reality.

coulditbeme2323 · 15/05/2026 10:47

80k isn't what it used to be, I mean sure it's a few bob - but not unreasonable to have in current account.

If it had been £5m, we would have known it was Nige…

ThisHeartyQuoter · 15/05/2026 10:47

I set up my zopa app in a few minutes and it's been worth it particularly as if you open a bank account you get access to a savings pot that gives you 7.10 per cent interest

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 15/05/2026 10:48

For a while we had £100,000 in our current account, after selling our flat and waiting to complete the purchase of our house. We aren't rich if that makes you feel better. We might have £2,000 in there at the moment.

Nourishinghandcream · 15/05/2026 10:48

Fantailed · 15/05/2026 10:36

Or it’s a house deposit that’s only in that account for a few days on weeks before it’s paid out. I think I had some stonkinh amount of cash briefly in mine for that reason. I should have framed the statement!

We were like that just a few years ago.

Sold our house but were not completing on our new one for several months.
Had left work with a severance package.
Had activated my pension and received my TFLS.

In the space of just a few days our current account had some very large sums passing through it and it was a busy time allocating funds to the correct accounts.

Sadly those days are now a memory and these days our current account looks more normal.

Some folk on here are so sour faced, I swear when they're having sex they close their eyes because they can't bear to see anyone else enjoying themselves.

This made me smile, it really captures the mood on here sometimes.

Fraughtmum · 15/05/2026 10:49

I have 30000 in mine as I've just transfered it in before transferring it elsewhere! When I sold my house and money went in, I phoned the bank to ask my balance. Just to hear the amount out loud
Then it all went into other accounts.

I've never had 80k in the bank in my entire life. My mum got a lump sum on retirement that she paid into all her working life of around 70k

Who keeps £80k in their current account? Confused

Exactly….the interest rate will be shit! And there’s a greater chance of losing it if the card is cloned/online/contactless fraud.

I wonder if they were off to buy a deep fried Mars bar and tell the shop to keep the change.

I’m sure you are aware that the vast majority of people don’t have £80k sitting around.
If they did, it would be far more sensible to have it somewhere that it earns decent interest.

In the long term yes, I am just saying with the cost of things nowdays it isn't a silly amount to have in your account for a few weeks.

Very few Scottish chip shops have deep fried mars bars on the menu.
