Where are you doing your main grocery shop?

I've used asda for quite some time now, but now that they've changed their rewards programme, plus with the general increase in prices, I'm thinking of switching my loyalties.

Where do you do your main shop? My shop is quite heavy in fruit, veg, salad, flour etc as I don't really do brands and cook quite a lot. Asda has always worked well for me with the own brands.
Tesco seems to have a good club card system (I use the petrol station) but doesn't seem to have much in the way of basics items, whereas Asda was good for this.
It needs to be somewhere that does delivery as I'm a single parent to smalls and work full time so not aldi or lidl.

Do you recommend anywhere?

Tesco for the big, weekly .com order.

Top up shops in person at Aldi or Sainsbury’s depending on what’s most convenient when I’m out.

Occasional pop to Waitrose for the odd few treaty things.

SnowFrogJelly · 11/08/2025 00:40

I like Tesco and clubcard prices

gottakeeponmoving · 11/08/2025 00:49

Sainsburys

It’s the only supermarket that has everything I want.
All the others either don’t sell a particular product I want or the quality is shite. ie bread is too close to sell by date in Aldi and chicken is chewy, Tesco doesn’t sell cat food my cat will eat and Asda doesn’t sell King Edward’s.

mondaytosunday · 11/08/2025 01:25

Tesco. I have the points automatically transferred into Virgin points. Sometimes Waitrose for certain items only they sell, very occasionally Sainsbury’s for their sushi section!

notnorman · 11/08/2025 22:45

I love basic stuff from m and s like soap, conditioner, baked beans. They’re cheap and lovely imo

LancashireButterPie · 12/08/2025 00:29

Tesco and Booths when I can afford it.

thismumneedssun · 12/08/2025 01:04

Used to be Aldi, we switched to Asda because Aldi was costing a fortune and we actually got much more for our money in Asda.
i am actually going to try a full weekly shop in Lidl next week, it's closest to home and the reward app is fab but ive only ever done a top up shop in there so it will be interesting to see.

afraidberry · 13/08/2025 09:54

aldi - so mcuh cheaper and great quality produce

curiositykilledthiscat · 15/08/2025 23:22

I also binned off Asda when they changed their rewards offer. I wonder if their profits have fallen these last few months.

Tesco is too expensive so I use Sainsbury’s. Tesco have also manipulated customers into thinking you’re getting a cheap shop but that’s only because they have ‘discounted’ many items for their Clubcard customers (no other supermarket does this to the same extent). God knows how money they’ve made from selling customers data.

Prices aren’t too bad at Sainsbury’s and the quality of their own brand stuff is generally excellent. I also make use of their (few) offers and ‘your nectar prices’. Also, the shopping experience at Sainsbury’s, when I don’t shop online, is a bit nicer than it is at Tesco.

Rewis · 19/08/2025 20:26

Main shop is Ocado and Waitrose.
Top up shop is Co-op (near by, open late).

Waitrose is not significantly more expensive and we like their selection. Their half ready meals (like spicy halloumi skewers and nduja mozzarella meatballs) have saved us from having take aways.

OdisseanQueen · 21/08/2025 14:24

Sainsburys, with a splash of M&S and Waitrose when I feel fancy.

Nectar prices give me discounts on the stuff I buy regularly, making it cheaper than almost anywhere else. They stock the branded things we need (e.g. dog food). They also give Sky customers a weekly freebie at the moment, and that brightens my shop - last week it was a pizza, this week it's a pint of ice cream.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 21/08/2025 16:31

@OdisseanQueen I didn't know that. Will have to use that tomorrow. Thanks for hint!

BlanklyMyDear · 21/08/2025 17:48

The OP already has the info she wants, so I’m just adding pointlessly to a list. But anyway:

Riverford for about 90% of fresh stuff, and bread, yoghurt, muesli, - sometimes cheese, and cider.

Ocado for the rest of my regular food deliveries and household stuff. Realistically I could manage without it, but I’m keeping them in case of another You are number 97 million in the queue episode. In the meantime I’m willing to pay extra for seamless ordering, well presented and alert and polite delivery people, and sheer reliability. Also, with price matching against Tesco they sometimes give me back 36 pence …

Hodmedods for wholefoods. Probably put in a biggish order every three months or so, to take advantage of bulk savings and free postage.

A local fantastic bakery for which you put in an order during the week and pick up at the weekend. It’s entirely responsible for my going up a whole dress size over a year.

Probably go into an M&S once a month if I happen to be passing. Waitrose about the same - though I’m ashamed to say I do sometimes get Deliveroo to pick me up the odd few things from there if I get a sudden craving.

On Saturday afternoons the local Co-Op is at the other end of a quick and lovely stroll through the park, though the shop is useless for anything except crisps.

The utterly brilliant Tinned Fish Market as and when. Online fishmongers ditto. (Pescatarian - I don’t buy fresh fish from supermarkets.)

So many good local cheese shops I don’t need to order online, but used to when I lived elsewhere.

Usually order wine from one or two favoured places, though the odd bottle from a great shop in the covered market.

Oh - coffee beans delivered weekly on subscription!

Think that’s everything.

Crikeyalmighty · 21/08/2025 21:36

Well I’ve done on Ocado shop tonight as never got my 25% off before!!

Crikeyalmighty · 21/08/2025 21:38

@BlanklyMyDear I’m a bit like you - bits from all over - although I don’t do Lidl or Aldi or Asda - as we don’t have them here ( well we do have 1 Lidl and it’s not a decent one)

aGirlLikeJesamine · 22/08/2025 07:35

i dont have loyalty with lidl or asda, well i did but my phone has no room for them anymore, so that is off putting. but there are things i prefer from asda and lidl is convenient.
for a change i bought sainsbury's coffee this week due to the nectar points, and the discount
