Where are you doing your main grocery shop?

I've used asda for quite some time now, but now that they've changed their rewards programme, plus with the general increase in prices, I'm thinking of switching my loyalties.

Where do you do your main shop? My shop is quite heavy in fruit, veg, salad, flour etc as I don't really do brands and cook quite a lot. Asda has always worked well for me with the own brands.
Tesco seems to have a good club card system (I use the petrol station) but doesn't seem to have much in the way of basics items, whereas Asda was good for this.
It needs to be somewhere that does delivery as I'm a single parent to smalls and work full time so not aldi or lidl.

Do you recommend anywhere?

Aldi for most things, including wine. I cook a lot too, very often 3 meals a day and we like lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, herbs etc. they're really good for that. Lidl for their coupons, so I spend just enough for that (around £300 a month to get all the coupons including 10% off voucher).
Then Sainsburys or Waitrose for some obscure things, Asian supermarket for others.

Aldi.

BloodandGlitter · 21/06/2025 18:39

Ocado - The quality and long dates mean we waste so much less food. I'm flexible with the menu so most of our proteins come from the 40% discount at checkout. I'll add everything then go back through the process to see all the options before removing the stuff I don't want.

Sainsbury’s and Morrison’s. Absolutely hate Asda.

@IdrisElbow if like me you are able to shop early evening - I am queen of the M&syellow stickers on fresh food- we eat really well as does my 27 year old son who also does this

FairyPoppins · 22/06/2025 10:09

Morrisons delivery - I live quite rural lyrics, and alone. Their minimum basket is £25 rather than Tesco which is £60... these are the only 2 who deliver in the village. Also Morrisons delivery charge, if you pick the right time, can be as low as £2.50.... they usually do Muller yogurt at 10 x £4... the saving pays for the delivery charge.
We have a village shop - CoOp, but the prices are extortionate

cliffdiver · 22/06/2025 10:16

Sainsbury’s.

I make the most of Nectar prices. I save up Nectar points to use for the Christmas shop.

Prices are really going up though.

I shop mostly in Tesco. However, I do a very quick veg and fruit shop in M&S most weeks. I find it cheaper as it lasts longer before going bad. I only have me and my child in the house and shops like Tesco are more and more frequently selling big packs nowadays which are way too big for us.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 22/06/2025 12:03

M&S, fruit and veg, lasts longer and superior quality. I do most of my shopping there. Tesco and Waitrose for cleaning products and bulky items.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 22/06/2025 12:31

Lidl, Aldi, and Tesco. It depends on what’s most convenient.

Passthecake30 · 22/06/2025 23:03

Ocado in the week, a top up from Tesco at the weekend and a nip to Asda for a few bits. Ocado/m&s food is the best quality food that I can get, might be slightly more expensive but I waste less.

Kimwestonhelpless · 22/06/2025 23:09

Asda for years and know where everything is unless shifted plus dw 15%staff discount 😁

Blankscreen · 22/06/2025 23:16

We've recently switched to Sainsbury's from Morrisons.

I think the Sainsbury's fruit and veg is far better.

Also far better range and cheaper on some things than Morrisons.

Blankscreen · 22/06/2025 23:17

I will however only buy grapes in M&S

Poonu · 22/06/2025 23:19

5 shops. Meat from Costco (chicken). Fruit from marks. Bits and bobs from Lidl. Everything else Waitrose. Except top up which is Sainsbury's. I price check.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 23/06/2025 00:24

Sainsbury’s, with Nectar points, nectar prices, deals such as buy 3 and get cheapest one free, plus price matching with Aldi I’m keeping my weekly shopping bill down.

CaptainSevenofNine · 19/06/2025 20:07

Lidl now has a loyalty app and we often get freebies, discounts or 10% off whole shop!

Yep, this. I wait until I have 10 percent off of whole shop and buy washing powder, toilet rolls cleaning products etc.

BooneyBeautiful · 23/06/2025 00:34

I have an Asda delivery each week and am really pleased now that Rollback is back. Seems cheaper. I usually get at least a couple of substitutes but surprisingly, none for the last two weeks.

StrikeForever · 23/06/2025 00:46

We use Sainsbury’s, but we buy most of our fruit and veg from M&S because we came to realise that it is better quality. Much of it is the same sort of price, some slightly more expensive, but not much.

RowsOfFlowers · 24/06/2025 19:50

Tesco, but loving Sainsbury’s lately.
Will do an Ocado shop once in a while as a treat and buy harder to find items.

snowlaser · 25/06/2025 12:05

Tesco (using online delivery)

hayfeverforever · 25/06/2025 12:12

Tesco for meat and snacky bits. M&S for everything else

skyeisthelimit · 25/06/2025 12:57

I have a Tesco delivery every week. I occasionally have one from Asda to buy a few things that Tesco don't sell.

Overall I find Tesco cheaper than Asda for the things that I buy.

It's a 40 mile round trip to the supermarkets but if I am in town then I do go to Lidl

isthesolution · 25/06/2025 13:05

Aldi
