Where are you doing your main grocery shop?

I've used asda for quite some time now, but now that they've changed their rewards programme, plus with the general increase in prices, I'm thinking of switching my loyalties.

Where do you do your main shop? My shop is quite heavy in fruit, veg, salad, flour etc as I don't really do brands and cook quite a lot. Asda has always worked well for me with the own brands.
Tesco seems to have a good club card system (I use the petrol station) but doesn't seem to have much in the way of basics items, whereas Asda was good for this.
It needs to be somewhere that does delivery as I'm a single parent to smalls and work full time so not aldi or lidl.

Do you recommend anywhere?

I'm fairly loyal to Tesco. I recently tried one of the very popular other ones that has no online presence, and the money saved was a false economy: every second bin bag in the rolls I bought tore on opening, and I found that the food was fairly good but not as good. 😁

EveryOtherNameTaken · 19/06/2025 20:41

Tesco.

Normansglasseye · 19/06/2025 20:42

Aldi, most of their meat is British which I like and their prices are still reasonable. I still do a small top up at Tesco but main shop is always at Aldi these days.

Crikeyalmighty · 19/06/2025 20:42

Waitrose , with some M&S and Sainsbury’s for basics and using my nectar points , plus some veg off farmers market

Floranan · 19/06/2025 20:43

Tesco, though I would use Morrisons if they delivered in my area I find their fresh stuff better. But Tesco does me ok

LemonyPicket · 19/06/2025 20:44

I used to use Asda but the quality became shite. Then I switched to Ocado as so many people raved about it but as a pp said the prices are now extortionate, we’re not particularly badly off but we can’t afford it. Sainsbury’s is a happy medium which I have been using since around Christmas, overall I’m quite pleased with it. They price match Aldi on a lot of basic items but then also stock some more obscure ingredients and extras you wouldn’t find in Aldi or Lidl. Plus the delivery pass is good value and you earn nectar points quickly which I’m saving for my Christmas shop.

ScoliMum · 19/06/2025 20:48

For fresh stuff like meat, fish, dairy, fruit & veg etc I buy it all at M&S these days. The prices are fairly similar to other supermarkets now but their produce is much superior in quality - lasts longer so better value.

I buy everything else at Sainsbury’s

Have tried Asda & Tesco in the past but I feel that quality is lacking. Really don’t like Lidl and feel it’s a false economy!

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/06/2025 20:48

Ocado- they price match to Tesco and refund the difference. Plus I use an app called Honey which finds discounts, yesterday had a voucher for £27 off my shop which was a real help.

Marmite27 · 19/06/2025 20:48

Aldi, plus I call into the big Asda every other week for Longley Farm cottage cheese with pineapple, as they’re the only place around here that stocks it.

Adhoc trips include Morrisons, Iceland, M&S and Farm Foods soon, when the new one opens up in the old Aldi building (they moved down the road to a store that was going to be a Lidl). If we’re further afield we usually call in at Lidl, home bargains or b&m.

In short Aldi and Asda regularly, then anywhere else as the mood takes us, apart from Tesco because we seemingly live in the only place without one!

hby9628 · 19/06/2025 20:48

Asda & Aldi. Hate Tesco. I’m going to try Morrisons for a change next week though.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/06/2025 20:49

In my area Tescos and Asda are rubbish. Terrible service from Tesco (cancelled on me twice on the actual day ffs), and Asda fruit and veg was really bad quality. I don’t like Morrisons much as I don’t rate their pet food (or my pets don’t, lol). I can’t get a slot with Waitrose, so I always use Sainsbos. Decent fruit and veg, and delivery staff are lovely.

TwoBlueFish · 19/06/2025 20:50

Aldi for the majority then Tesco for the rest. Asda for the odd pint of milk or bread as it’s closest.

GoodNamesOnly · 19/06/2025 20:51

I usually go to Aldi and Lidl once a week each, then probably Tesco or Sainsbury's once a week too. Our Asda is like a giant corner shop ie loads of convenience food and very few ingredients. Depressing. It is in a bit of a crap area, but Aldi and Lidl are in the same area and don't seem to have done that. I probably get most excited by Sainsbury's, but that shop is always the most expensive. It is hard to compare costs as Aldi and Lidl don't really do brands, so I often buy any brands or most unusual things I want in Tesco/Sainsbury's.

4pmwinetimebebeh · 19/06/2025 20:53

I think it depends on what your local stores are like tbh. Our local Tesco is massive and great, Asda and lidl are rough and Sainsbury’s is much more expensive! I have club card plus so get 10% off my shops which I use for the first of the month (massive topping up shop for everything) and then the last of the month. Quality of food is great!

DeSoleil · 19/06/2025 20:55

M&S or Lidl and a couple of Faemshops. Occasionally Aldi.

lovemycbf · 19/06/2025 20:59

Sainsbury’s as the fruit, veg and meat are always great

MarySueSaidBoo · 19/06/2025 21:01

I alternate between Waitrose and Ocado. I don't find them too costly and rarely send things back with quality issues.

Lettuceleafy · 19/06/2025 21:02

I’m finding Ocado more expensive. I’m tending to use Sainsbury’s and Lidl more.

JustAnInchident · 19/06/2025 21:05

Asda deliveries at the moment because I’ve got a three year old and a new baby, I parent alone 99% of the time and frankly doing the food shop in person sounds diabolical. It was Lidl before and it’ll be Lidl again asap as it’s so much cheaper and better quality too.

tinyspiny · 19/06/2025 21:10

M&S then top ups in Tesco , I do occasionally go to Morrisons for gf pizza

BingoBling · 19/06/2025 21:12

Ocado for most of it.
Aldi is good for fruit, veg, basics

Wolmando · 19/06/2025 21:14

Whoever gives me an online offer, Sainsbury's gave me free delivery so I'm using them this week, a couple of weeks ago Ocado gave me 15% off 2 weeks running, And before then I had a Waitrose offer. In between these shops I use Waitrose and M&S

Definitelynotem · 19/06/2025 21:22

We use Ocado, great service and they have some specialist brands that supermarkets don’t stock. Probably not the cheapest but I like the price promise vouchers and the fact that they pack your shopping into bags.

HogBrush · 19/06/2025 21:22

Aldi and Sainsbury’s , sometimes Morrisons for fish and other bits. I like their world food aisle too.

Spendysis · 19/06/2025 21:23

Morrisons it's in my way home from work and dh gets staff discount
Ocado / m & s if doing online
Sometimes Aldi
