So good for gifts isn't it @MaryGreenhill ?! And never disappoints.

Meal plan:
Homemade feta bread with Waldorf salad
Rice salad with apricots and dried figs
Fish with polenta chips (if I can make them!)
Left over Shep pie with peas
Left over veggie stew

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/08/2025 18:11

I got nothing in the TU sale. That’s about all I can be virtuous about.
DS & I are rating farm shops in the NE Costing about £25 for last 2 days each

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/08/2025 18:12

GWS doggo. Hope he’s on the mend need

MaryGreenhill · 19/08/2025 19:34

@needastrongoneagain oh l missed about your poor Ddog bless them . Hope they get better very soon 🙏
@Frugal25 it's brilliant on Tu TBF their sale is excellent and nice stuff most of the year ☺️

PearlsPearl · 19/08/2025 20:13

Get well soon little doggy! It's horrible when they're unwell.

@Frugal25 please tell me more about the Rice salad with apricots and dried figs, 3 of my fave things!

I wish it was an NSD but no. £40 at Aldi.

chimichangaz · 19/08/2025 22:04

Ooh @needastrongoneagain your poorly ddog!! Glad he’s on the mend. My sons dog tends to have a very delicate tummy and it can be very worrying.

Glad I didn’t realise Tu had a sale on. LSD for me £10 waxing and a fiver in Boots. Although my car has an issue so that will need sorting when I get back.

So the pension company responded to my complaint in less than 3 hours (their last response took 6 weeks), saying they’d investigated again and basically none of the issues causing the delay (it took 31 weeks!!) are their fault 🤣 They’ve also made a factual error which helps me out as it shows their incompetence. It all takes so much time - why can’t they just accept they did wrong and pay appropriate compensation!!

ChatGPT is helping me write a suitable response before I escalate to the financial ombudsman.

I’ve also submitted an appeal for my parking ticket. Expecting them not to cancel it. Sigh.

I’m off on a short cruise with my sister tomorrow so I won’t be logging spends but I’ll check in on the thread when I have a signal 😊

PearlsPearl · 20/08/2025 07:24

Have a lovely time @chimichangaz 💖

MaryGreenhill · 20/08/2025 13:01

Charity shop all in £13 , for a dress for Mum, 2 books , 5 dvds and 2 unopened pkts of incontinence pads for Mum . Great bargains today
£15 on yellow stickers in Marks
Have a lovely day everyone ☺️

ChipshopPickledEgg · 20/08/2025 13:49

Had some bad news today so I am sat in my car at lunch time with a very high calorie expensive coffee from dunkin coffee before I melted in my office.
I'll be regretting my decision later when I have 200 calories for my dinner 😆

MaryGreenhill · 20/08/2025 14:50

Sorry to hear that @ChipshopPickledEgg bless you hope things improve soon for you in the meantime you enjoy that coffee 🤗

BigSkies2022 · 20/08/2025 19:03

red letter day as Ddad finally installed safely at residential care home. Dual registered as nursing care, so he will never have to move. Lovely home, great location, everyone very happy. And relieved. Admin still to do but we can finally start living our own lives again.

Frugal25 · 20/08/2025 19:20

Yay @BigSkies2022 !!!!! Celebrate tonight!!
Oh Hun, I hope.your day got better @ChipshopPickledEgg . Stuff the diet for one day.
@MaryGreenhill you always find bargains!! One of my favourite date nights with OH before DD came along was to have a glass of bubbles at the wine bar and then go round m&s looking for yellow stickers for dinner. I used to get quite focused on it!

£3 today on a saucepan organizer as mine are falling out of the cupboard each time I open it. But that was it. Pay day today. PHEW!

@PearlsPearl , I'll get the recipe for you sweetie. Bear with me!

MaryGreenhill · 20/08/2025 19:33

Wonderful news @BigSkies2022such a relief for you all 🤗
I can imagine you really enjoying the rummaging around the yellow stickers in Marks , l love doing that too 😁

BigSkies2022 · 20/08/2025 19:37

i will celebrate once the admin is sorted! And he needs a few bits for his room to make it more homely. A radio, a couple of lamps, a rug, a picture or two, maybe a nice mirror and a shelf. A couple of throws, cushions, a counterpane..He probably won’t care one way or another but we will enjoy the process!

as for spending- about £40, spread across visits to Lidl and Waitrose. Dmum bought me lunch at Gail’s after we had delivered Ddad. Salmon and haddock from the freezer for dinner tonight, plus veg. Exercise has taken a hit this week but I will be pushing weights tomorrow.

psuedocream3 · 20/08/2025 20:25

So pleased for you @BigSkies2022 that must be a relief to have things sorted.

@MaryGreenhill You are great with bargain hunting, we don't seem to have any charity shops very local to our village unfortunately.

@ChipshopPickledEgg I hope your day improved and you enjoyed your delicious drink.

I have been MIA for a while. Life has had a few stressors with an alcoholic family member falling into a new mess where I have tried to help several times but ultimately you cant help those who aren't read, and the amount of worry, stress and sadness has been overwhelming. I am standing back for now for my sanity. Summer holidays has been spendy, kids birthdays. Also work has been slow so I haven't made as much. GCSE result day tomorrow.

Financially doing ok though, but next month is going to be spendy due to health appointments.

MaryGreenhill · 20/08/2025 21:11

Aw thank you @psuedocream3 we have a lot of Charity shops here so it's easier when you have a lot to choose from 🤗
Alcoholism seems to run through my family too . I bent over backwards to help them in my family but inevitably like you l had to stand back and realise l wasn't responsible for them . It's very hard though and it's so sad bless you 🤗

chimichangaz · 20/08/2025 21:43

Hope your day got better @ChipshopPickledEgg Flowers

Yay for you and your ddad @BigSkies2022 Flowers

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/08/2025 09:10

Sainsbury’s had Harry’s razor &; 13 blades for £12.50 clearance. In the men’s section. 12 bladed are £23 alone.

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/08/2025 09:11

Sod the diet on days like that chips

great news on the care home big

needastrongoneagain · 21/08/2025 11:06

Morning.

Thank you for the dog love. He's gotten worse in the last couple of days so is at the vets awaiting tests and scans etc. I'm in bits because I love that stupid idiot of a Spaniel with every fibre of my being and can't stand the thought of anything happening to him.

Glad to hear about your Dad @BigSkies2022. Making his room more personal is exactly the right thing.

Sod the calories @ChipshopPickledEgg. I hope you are okay ❤️. Hope today is better,

Ah @psuedocream3, that's tough. You can't help until help is wanted. Easy to say look after yourself, harder to do.

Your mum is deservedly spoiled @MaryGreenhill

Just about on budget with some jiggling of pots here - vet fees aside as that will be savings and will be partly covered by insurance (he's an old dog, so some has to be funded by us as part of the terms), but I don't care what he costs at the minute. 😢

Big love to old dog, Need. Very much hope he gets better soon.

thanks to all for good wishes on Ddad. Still wading through related admin but the main task is done and we are hugely relieved. It’s a good feeling to be able to go away knowing it’s sorted.

MaryGreenhill · 21/08/2025 12:44

NSD today and about time too 🙄
Aw thank you re my Mum 🤗
Am praying your Ddog gets better asap @needastrongoneagain🤗🙏❤️
Glad everything is good with your DDad and you all @Bigskies

needastrongoneagain · 21/08/2025 15:28

Thank you all. It wasn't good news. He had cancer, everywhere really. He was right as rain a week ago and even had a walk this morning, a short one so it's a compete shock. We've let him go and don't really know what to do with ourselves in truth. I loved that Stupid Spaniel beyond belief.

I’m so sorry @needastrongoneagain. It’s shit when you lose them. But you made the right choice and he didn’t suffer
