Making a new thread!

Please check in regular posters and welcome new people.

This is a super friendly thread to contribute to. We are all wanting to be as efficient as possible re spending but all have different budgets and priorities. No judgement here.

NSD (no spend day) for me.

I read this thread every day but have never commented. To the lady who wants to send cheaper birthday cards. I’ve just ordered off Whistlefish and got 10 for £10 and because I’ve signed up for emails I got 20% off so with delivery it has only cost £11.75. I have never ordered from them before but I’ve heard good things.

Thank you. I’ve not heard of that website til it was linked the other day but they do look good 😊

I AM very blessed to have lots of small people that I love. A lot of nieces and nephews, a godson and my closest friend has 3 kids! And 2 other friends children too. All have always been generous with my DS over the years which I’ve always appreciated. But I genuinely love having a life full of them 💖

KFC for lunch £22 which I was astounded at for 2 meals. Was nice though. DS chose the treat. We were meant to go out for lunch but he didn’t feel up to it, so it was much cheaper than that would have been anyway.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/08/2025 17:47

Whistle fish cards are the best imo

Frugal25 · 17/08/2025 18:58

NSD here. A lovely sunny day so went to the park and played in the garden.
Thank you for the thread @lifelongfrugaleer , I'll take a look, tbh my best friend earns a heck of a lot of money and doesn't have children so I'm already surrounded by fomo as her life looks fabulous all the time, i dont need anymore!!!

Mortgage deal done. I'll be left with £0 to play with for 4 months (urgh for Christmas). Then debt will be paid off and I'll have £200 a month for saving and playing. Was going to be £450 but obviously mortgage has gone up since I last did it. Sigh. I wasn't going to go back to work full time when DD goes to school but looks like I'll have to. Im lucky to have that option though.
Sold two more bits on vinted. Yay.

Happierwithouthim · 17/08/2025 20:47

Great to see tayto back posting although I’ve not been on the thread much of late so maybe you’ve been back for ages Cake

got bf a present today €35.75 using 15% off code, it’s our first weekend together in 8 months Wink

I haven’t budgeted my YNAB all summer long, might just do a fresh start on 1st Sept

did a grocery shop today someone was kind enough to give me their €10 off €50 for dunnes still spent €67 basically just on my food and snacks and two boxes of cereal for the week no cleaning supplies no alcohol no dairy children are with their dad this week. It’s crazy money. But Aldi was €38 the other day and that only really bought for two dinners and 24 packs of noodles as they were reduced. Put 14 packs in hide.So I don’t think it’s the supermarket just across the board.

have had no power for approx 24 hours due to lightning blowing a fuse and me being the only house on particular line, there are two farmyards but they’re used for storage so no one to notice.

my hairdresser friend recommended using pigment in shampoo to prolong time between visiting hairdresser, I’m going to try it out tonight. Had to buy for dd to try bring her hair back to natural colour before returning to school.

€38 diesel on Fri eve so that’s my approx weekly spend on diesel, went to Dublin yesterday and filled again today €55 it cost me plus dinner and snacks so about €90 for the day out and I was frugal with my spends.

frugal25 what kind of phone?

em how are you doing?

hi to all my lovely friends on the thread hope August is treating you well

BigSkies2022 · 17/08/2025 21:26

Lovely day- up early and walked Ddog on Wimbledon Common for ages. Then farmers’ market in the village where we got a good chicken shish with sides which fed me, DH and Ddog for £11. Then two ice creams for another £8.

DS returned from day gig with sunburn, poor lad. Christ, I can’t turn my back/ I got him up, made him breakfast and a packed lunch, but didn’t give him sunscreen. Consoled by spaghetti Bol for dinner and copious quantities of Cerave, water and ibuprofen.

new week tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that a big chunky problem gets .

Frugal25 · 18/08/2025 06:56

Morning all!
Happy Monday 😊
It will be a NSD today as WFH and got everything we all need.
Will post vinted today at lunch

@BigSkies2022 I hope it's a good news week for you. I have fingers crossed.

I don't get on with iPhones so I got a Motorola g25 (I think) it's really nice @Happierwithouthim

WhitegreeNcandle · 18/08/2025 07:19

Morning all.

NSD here yesterday. Good job after all this entertaining. I do love it but we don’t seem to get the invites back. People rave about coming here and day they love it but never have us back! We’re getting to the point where we think either they actually don’t like us or they’re just useless! We’ve had 12 couple since July in various groups and not even a tinkle of “oh, you’ll have to come to ours”.

wont be a NSD here today as the stationary shop is due. Hoping to go through the house first to see what’s required though. DD is on a sewing workshop and DS and I will do what my grandpa would call the messages

PearlsPearl · 18/08/2025 08:14

Morning all! Feeling determined to have a good week financially and make good decisions. The weekend was spendy as they always are so I need to keep my weekdays in check.

@Happierwithouthim must have been stressful without electricity for so long! I went through a 'preppers' stage last year and now have solar powered chargers in the garage. I really must try them out!

needastrongoneagain · 18/08/2025 10:34

Morning All.

I think I'd be leaving it longer and longer before inviting folk back again @WhitegreeNcandle if they didn't reciprocate! As someone that entertains often, I know it can be exhausting and also wonderful when other folk do it for you!

Such a pain with no power @Happierwithouthim. I agree, food is becoming even more expensive than ever. I'm hearing how poor the crops are this year too....

I concur re Whistlefish cards. It was this thread that 'enabled' or 'recommended' me depending on viewpoint! I'm in the latter camp - they are lovely and fabulous value. Plus, I'm actually organised.

General spending only has occurred since I last posted. It's been a bog standard week in fact! Good - it needed to be.

Yesterday
£10 groceries, including tinned dog food for the Spaniel, who has an upset tummy, but seems to be able to at least keep half of the softer stuff down. He's very slightly built (only 14.5kg), so I need to keep his timber (the little he has) on him.

Today will be a NSD.

Menu plan
Chilli and rice from a batch cook.
Cauliflower, potato and chick pea curry.
Salmon with a salad of some description.
Thai prawn curry.
Something vegetarian to be decided.

Have a great week people!

Good morning everyone 😊
Going out for lunch with my friend, she's paying this month so no cost and l think I am not going to spend anything today hopefully ☺️
@WhitegreeNcandle they must like you or they wouldn't come but not fair on you, them not reciprocating.

Rainbow1901 · 18/08/2025 11:59

Need to menu plan for this week although I made a Lasagne for tea yesterday and then went out to Bingo with a friend where I had a very unhealthy Hot Dog and chips - but it tasted good!! Bingo was profitable too and shared with my friend. 😀 DH used up some bacon and did himself a fry up! But back on the menu planning - we seem to have a glut of homegrown tomatoes so will make a base tomato sauce for freezing to use for chilli and pasta. The Lasagne is big enough to do two meals when served with salad and garlic bread and it doesn't bother us if we have the same meal two days on the bounce.
Heard from my BB supplier that a friend has signed up so a £50 Voucher is due to be heading my way in a few weeks time.
The car is loaded up with a few charity shop bits - so decluttering is still making slow progress. Sold another item on Vinted too yesterday so sent that off pronto.
DH has finished messing around with the kitchen door so that is now ready to paint while we have a GC free day. Hopefully he'll get on with the doors in the porch today but he got into watching The Hundred on Prime and ended up staying up all night!! He's already had a snooze in the chair this morning but needs to keep active and awake or he'll sleep all day. I have to say it is very good series but I'll catch up some other time.
Hoping for a LSD - have to buy wrapping paper/bag/cards for some family birthdays that are coming up so they can be delivered by DD who will be away for a few days with GCs seeing her DDad and other family. Need some more mail bags in readiness for hopeful Vinted sales - so hopefully no major outlay.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 18/08/2025 18:43

£23 on nothing much at all in Morrisons
£6 on lunch because I didn't go shopping yesterday for food dieting is bloody expensive.

Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2025 18:58

You know we talk about clothes getting darked on and what spiders do to your clothes overnight? Well mine have been hanging in shed for 2.5 weeks, there were actually cobwebs joining the pegs together! BlushGrin

they’re slightly damp so I’m going to run them through one of those outdoor driers for 15 mins this eve. My dryer went at end of June I haven’t replaced yet.

Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2025 19:07

€70 on electrician today as I discovered I’d no water this morning and the surge protector socket in pump house was blown so it worked & saved my water pump. He came during the day today so I’m delighted with that.

Pearls I’ve a few rechargeable lamps from camping & we’re only back so everything has been put in a basket in press in lobby for convenience so I was sorted, unfortunately phone power bank was dead but it got charged while I was walking yesterday so I’d have been ok if power didn’t come back last night and no children here meant fridge & freezer were left firmly closed and all food was saved.

ate a 50% off yellow sticker massaman curry today for lunch from dunnes it was nice but the yellow sticker high protein curry I had last week from Lidl was much nicer.
for winter Tues will be curry day for lunch as exercise class at 7pm so dinner for lunch.

need probably means food is going to increase even more then.

I mentioned what I’d spent though at work today and my colleague had spent almost €300 for 2 adults 2 children (11&13) and other colleague approx €70 for her & dh and they were away for weekend.

Happierwithouthim · 18/08/2025 19:10

White wow out of 12 couples that’s shocking, unless you really enjoy their company or entertaining I wouldn’t be inviting again.

frugal ds has a Motorola g8 plus, bought from cex for €90 it’s lovely and perfect for him. I love iPhones BlushBlush mine is no longer supported and I may need to replace this year.

chimichangaz · 18/08/2025 19:21

Met a couple of friends for coffee and cake - I was treated this time so my turn next time. My friend was driving and wanted to call in at a local small jewellers on the way home - I ended up buying a ring….it is beautiful, just the sort I always look at and very reasonably priced.
Tomorrow will be low spend as I have a waxing appointment in the afternoon.

Finishing off my complaint letter tonight to my previous pension company about the shocking delay in it reaching my new provider. I’ve calculated how much I lost out on and it’s a significant amount. If they are a decent company they should reimburse me so let’s wait and see (absolutely not expecting them to).

Alwayslearning25 · 19/08/2025 08:47

Yesterday, I was guilty of impulse spending. I haven't been to Lidl at the moment. Went to get bananas and oat milk but spent £40 on junk food and midl of Lidl. Then bought a bulk of Lego from marketplace for £60, but I'm very excited about it, and might be able to sort clean and sell it for a profit. So today nsd. Meals are all sorted and I'm at work.

Rainbow1901 · 19/08/2025 09:11

A hoped for LSD yesterday - wasn't!! Sainsburys had a TU sale on - so I picked up some reduced clothing for the GCs - 50% off loads of items - can't complain at £1.50 for T-shirts etc, got DH some jeans too. As is typical - nothing I liked for me. Ah well!! 😆

needastrongoneagain · 19/08/2025 12:08

Afternoon.

Good for you @chimichangaz, re the complaint.

Hope the Lego turns out to be profitable @Alwayslearning25

So yesterday was indeed a NSD. Today, less so

£12 Oat Milk Amazon.
£12 coop on milk, chicken, cheese, grapes (chicken for poorly dog).
£90 Vets - poorly sick dog wasn't getting any better and was very lethargic so he's been diagnosed by the vet with a gastrointestinal bug (common in these parts at present, apparently), and he's had some form of anti sickness jab, some probiotics and canine equivalent of Tums! He's now back to begging for food and following me round the house. The chicken was for the dog. I love him to pieces but our other dog has cost me approximately 45p in 12 years, and this one about a billion quid 🤣

NSD for me today yay! Oh no l forgot a pr of trousers and some football socks in the Tu sale for DH £15 😁

Frugal25 · 19/08/2025 16:30

Your poor dog @needastrongoneagain always the way isn't it. One costs nothing and the other makes up for it!
Was going to be a NSD today. Pre paid for swimming session and then went to brothers house for a natter whilst DD played with their cats and cousins. But. Mortgage advisor needed paying so £199 on credit card. Fuming that it's added to my debt and worked out that the debt will take 11 months not 6 as I won't get the lump sum I thought I was getting but I still have a plan. It's just longer is all. I'll keep going
How gorgeous is today. Just beautiful weather.
Ooohhhh Tu sale. I never go and always want to. I may convince OH to have DD for half hour and have a nose for Christmas gifts ....

MaryGreenhill · 19/08/2025 17:10

That's what l went in there for @Frugal25 🤣
