Making a new thread!

Please check in regular posters and welcome new people.

This is a super friendly thread to contribute to. We are all wanting to be as efficient as possible re spending but all have different budgets and priorities. No judgement here.

Rainbow1901 · 05/06/2025 21:53

Hello!! Not a NSD today - had a meal out with the girls £26! But nice to catch up. Nice new shiny thread @needastrongoneagain Ta!! 😊

SockHop · 05/06/2025 22:29

Thanks for the new thread @needastrongoneagain
LSD for me today. Just £7 at the local shop for milk, washing up liquid, a pack of biscuits (I had a friend over for coffee) and a pack of crisps for dd.

£26 isn’t that much for a nice catch up meal @Rainbow1901 . I hope you had a lovely time.

chimichangaz · 05/06/2025 23:01

Thank you @needastrongoneagain for the new thread!!

Today was almost very nearly a NSD but I ended up buying some safety glasses and a book on Amazon (will use my ‘free’ £25 from Chip for this) and two books from eBay (I have £39 eBay balance they will come out from).

Mochi1fudge · 05/06/2025 23:05

Thanks @needastrongoneagain for the new thread.

M&S Summer Beauty Bag £35 for £211 worth of products. Saw it on the Martin Lewis email. Will use some, will save some for gifts.

Farmfoods £13.46
Eyebrow tint and wax £10

WearyAuldWumman · 05/06/2025 23:07

This possibly doesn't count, but I took out membership of the local leisure centre last year. £28 a month. I'm making sure that I use the facilities at least 4 times a week - two classes and at least two gym sessions - and I use the showers.

ememem84 · 06/06/2025 07:03

@needastrongoneagain thanks dude!

@WearyAuldWumman thats an amazing deal! And you’ve been getting your moneys worth!

yesterday was a low spend for me. £7 parking for work for 9-2 😱 and a free coffee. Went to the cafe and the guy behind the counter said it was on him. Win.

Imperfectpolly · 06/06/2025 07:34

Thanks for the new thread.

LSD for me yesterday. Just had to get one thing for the carpenter who is coming to do a few jobs for us next week.

Happy Friday all.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/06/2025 09:02

Thanks need

Frugal25 · 06/06/2025 09:55

Yay a new thread!!! Thank you @needastrongoneagain

A spendy day yesterday. £95 in Lidl (way over budget but I did buy a Christmas present) and DD chucked a few things in (I took out half!)

£6 in Tesco on flowers for DM as she bought her new house and has helped me lots recently.

£3.50 on sending a parcel to a friend for her birthday.

£54 on a dinner last night with best friend for her belated birthday.

Oh. And £10.50 for swimming session for DD.

Urgh. Today best be a NSD.

@WearyAuldWumman that sounds so lovely. I hope.youre enjoying too.

@Mochi1fudge that beauty bag seems an amazing deal well done.

Happy Friday all! Homemade pizzas tonight. 5pm can't come soon enough.

@SockHop It's the girls from the Moving on Group (MOGS) - we started meeting at the local hospice when we were all going through various cancer treatments nine years ago. They kicked us out after a year so we started meeting up for afternoon teas or a meal out every other month. Last night was a Chinese Buffet that we decided to try out. It was surprisingly good and really good value for money. So a win all round 😋

OrangeCrushes · 06/06/2025 11:37

I'm looking to be more frugal! Will be nice to have this thread for accountability 😊

ChipshopPickledEgg · 06/06/2025 11:47

Hello all, so glad to find a new thread. Was thinking of starting one but couldn't think of a title!

We're in Norwich this weekend so I'm sure it'll be on the spendier side but it's my husband's friends reunion weekend so hopefully he will cover most of it 😆.

Have a good weekend ladies.

MaryGreenhill · 06/06/2025 14:22

£38 in Aldi's which includes flowers/wine/lagers/dog treats for my friend and her son and dogs, who are having a bt of a time of it ATM bless them . Also 2 potted roses for my Dad's grave for his birthday on Sunday .

MaryGreenhill · 06/06/2025 14:46

@Rainbow1901oh that is lovely that you are all still meeting up every month that's such a support network for you all bless you 😊

PearlsPearl · 06/06/2025 16:43

Hello everyone. I had to delete my cookies and in the process lost all my passwords, including MN! So I have a shiny new account. I won't say my old username as I don't want my accounts linked anyway, but it's me in my little corner of Scotland with my dogs and wife :)

The weight loss injection I agonised over buying has been well worth it as I've lost 6lb and saved about a million pound on food this past two weeks! I'm just not hungry and buying nothing at work anymore except a daily 50p banana. I'm amazed at the change in myself and other than our usual Gousto dinners and a corned beef roll for breakfast I'm not eating anything else whatsoever.

chimichangaz · 06/06/2025 20:15

Welcome to new members - it’s a lovely welcoming place!
Very slow start to the day for me as I fell back to sleep after turning the alarm off. Visited my son this afternoon then stopped for petrol on the way home (£50 - hopefully will do me for the month) and £10 on wine and snacks (all counted on my WW app!) for this evening.

Imperfectpolly · 06/06/2025 22:04

Lsd today for me, bought some bread and potatoes to get us through the day. I'll do the big food shop tomorrow.

Frugal25 · 06/06/2025 22:21

Welcome newbies!
NSD for me at long last, yippee!
Hoping for another tomorrow too.
So glad you went for the weight loss jabs @PearlsPearl and that they are working. I'm struggling to lose weight at the mo and they are tempting I have to say. If I stick to just lettuce, I lose weight. If I eat anything else it goes back on. Argh!
Meal plan this week was
Tonight, home made pizzas
Saturday, picky bits (I was out Thursday)
Sunday, pasta and homemade tomato sauce
Monday, caeser salad
Tuesday, potato and leek soup
Wednesday, I actually can't remember....! Hope I remember by Wednesday ha ha ha

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/06/2025 07:28

Welcome lots of new people
spent lots here but will recoup the savings
its a 0 birthday for me so was always going to happen

needastrongoneagain · 07/06/2025 07:58

Happy 60th @lifelongfrugaleer 🤣🤣

Pleasure re starting the new thread, it's a long time since I did. Welcome to the new folk. All are welcome, it's a kind and friendly place.

That's a really lovely group to be part of @Rainbow1901

Very organised re buying a Christmas present @Frugal25!

Interesting stuff re the weight loss jabs. I listen to a lot of health and longevity podcasts, they feature a lot at the minute.

Roses are a lovely gesture @MaryGreenhill

Our spends have been minimal
£150 Ocado shop (including a present)
£15 birthday mug for DD (money pot for this)
£75 dog grooming (pot again)
£15 Morrisons on cereal, cordial, and a few bits.

These are all standard and budgeted spends. The only ad hoc ones have been £25 to go to the cinema (how much???!!!). And £12 coffees and sweets (which had I known we were going to get I'd have brought from home). The cinema trip was an experiment to see if I could get DH there by myself and he'd enjoy it but it worked well. We saw The Salt Path, which I thought was a lovely film

Menu plan.

Pizza tonight (from supermarket) as we are at the local sports club this afternoon.
Mexican chicken
Monkfish, tomato and bean stew (got the fish super cheap from a fishmonger)
Easy tea (everyone's 'busy' night), like breaded fish and over chips. If I've time I'll cook a homemade tomato sauce.
Veggie curry of some description.
Vegetable and white bean soup to use up all the odds and sods in the fridge.

needastrongoneagain · 07/06/2025 08:16

Oh - and sold £20 worth of bits on Vinted.

Good morning everyone.
Happy Birthday @lifelongfrugaleer !

Another NSD yesterday. I wasn’t feeling well at all and went to bed as soon as I got back from work. My mum popped over and brought in some dinner for DD who was delighted to get pizza rather than veggie sausage and beans Grin
Today is a quiet day. I have a friend coming over later but I have everything I’ll need for that already. I do need to stock up on a few painkillers and over counter remedies though so that will likely be my spends for today.

Imperfectpolly · 07/06/2025 09:40

Happy birthday @lifelongfrugaleer

Hope you're feeling better today @SockHop , your mum sounds lovely.

I've woken feeling worse for wear today. I had a migraine going to bed last night, luckily my prescription meds clears the worst of it but I've woken up with pain through my left eye this morning.

I have to pop to tk maxx today for a flower pot. I also need to do my food shopping. My meals will probably be similar to last week, I rejoined slimming world and lost 3 and a half pounds in the first 5 days, so I'll try to stick to the same meals as last week:

Fresh hake in white breadcrumbs with homemade chips and mushy peas
Homemade beef burger with chips
Healthy takeaway (Asian last week)
Lasagne and salad
Steak, baby potatoes and mushrooms
Mince & gravy, mash and mushy peas
Homemade turkey burger and chips.

Will try to get more veg in this week, I forgot to buy the frozen veg last week.
