Good morning everyone ☀️
Beautiful day here , been to Marks for food and a look at the sales . I only bought food though £44. Got their curry meal for £15 for the weekend.
Been to Aldi for the rest of the shopping. £65 .
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend 😀

MaryGreenhill · 25/07/2025 14:10

Ah @Frugal25 bless you sweetheart hope you are feeling ok now 💐

MaryGreenhill · 25/07/2025 14:16

Ah thank you @Mochi1fudge@lifelongfrugaleer 😁 it's a perfect dress for my Mum, especially with the pockets for her sweeties and hankies 😊
@SockHopa big unmumsnetty hug sweetheart, bless you and your DD 💐

Frugal25 · 25/07/2025 19:08

Gorgeous dress @MaryGreenhill ! You always buy beautiful things. I bet your mum adores it.
@SockHop sending you love and hugs. I hope you and your DD had a lovely time and enjoyed.

A spendy day today as OH has paid pretty much 99% for everything all holiday so thought I'd use my card.
£10 for tickets into butterfly world.
£5 parking to a national park
£17 on lunch for all.

Going home tomorrow (sadly) so will buy a new phone when I get back. Found one for £90 in Argos. I'm not that techy so a basic Android is perfect for me.
This place im staying in is up for sale. £1.5 million. To say I'm tempted.... OH is VERY tempted. A pool. Tennis courts. Stables. Surrounded by fields. 3 acres of land. Just perfect. One day frugal. One day.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 25/07/2025 19:11

A huge day of donations here today. I went through a lot of my DD clothes and took a lot to charity, I was hoarding things that really had no sentimental need.

Payday here today no spend day too.

Tomorrow I am going to get a few bits for my daughter's new size that she 'needs' and she was such a good girl I've promised her some new hair bits.

Have a great weekend all.

MaryGreenhill · 25/07/2025 19:45

Ah thank you @Frugal25thats so kind of you to say that .
I do take a lot of trouble to make sure she looks good, it gives me a lot of comfort. To me it's so important to keep your self esteem and dignity when you get older .
Sounds like you have had the most lovely time today .
I have only just bought a Motorola G05 this Tuesday and it's excellent. Forest green in colour and the audio/camera is so good 👍
Well done on the charity donation @ChipshopPickledEgg just think of all the good work it will help pay for 😊

Glad you had a lovely day with friends @lifelongfrugaleer.
Lucky you 😁

March2027 · 26/07/2025 06:18

Lovely dress though for some reason the photo has a sensitive content warning. Wondered what you had posted😁

Mochi1fudge · 26/07/2025 06:59

Yesterday was spendy but could have been worse
£19.80 Asda
£44.60 Lidl
£6 B&M
£15 eyebrow tint and wax
Ate out with a group of old work friends. Was only £6 plus £2.50 for a drink as we shared takeaway pizzas on a club terrace, not a pub meal like normal.

SockHop · 26/07/2025 07:33

Thanks everyone. We are generally doing well and it’s only been 5 months since he died so it’s all expected and part of the process. The things relating to dd are particularly hard though.

@Frugal25 I hope you’re ok! What a frustrating day. I’m glad you’ve found replacement phone you’re happy with.
I love a bit of fantasy holiday home shopping. Maybe we could club together and have a time share?!

lovely dress @MaryGreenhill. And a bargain too. I can picture your mum wearing it.

I had a LSD yesterday. I bought a gift from Amazon (left it super late) for yet another party DD is going to this weekend. That came out of the allotted pot and other than that no spends. The party is tomorrow and I’ve found a route there that only involves an uber for the last leg of it so that should keep costs down.

I had a bit of a frustrating end to my day yesterday too. My flat pack wardrobe arrived on Thursday and is currently taking up space in my (very narrow) hall. I quite like putting up furniture so decided I’d get started yesterday. I’m home alone as dd was at a sleepover. The first frame was easy to put up so I decide to do the next (slightly larger) one. Not a good idea! It was definitely a 2 man job just due to the size. The room didn’t really have enough space to construct it in either and it all went a bit wrong. One of the boards got damaged but I’m hoping it’s still usable. Worst case scenario is having to buy that part again (£35) so thank god it’s modular! Honestly I’m so impatient sometimes. I wish I’d just waited.

Im going out this evening to a local event with a friend. They paid for tickets so I’ll get food and drinks. I’ve £40 budgeted but I guess it could be more.

Pay day in on Thursday. It should just about be doable! I’m going to have to start writing every purchase down again. I didn’t this month and although I’ve just managed to stay in budget I have noticed I’ve made a few more unnecessary and spontaneous purchases than in previous months. I must keep myself more accountable. I think one of my problems this month has been needing to make so many purchases from my longer term pots (uniform, stationary, presents, dog costs etc). They’ve all been planned and sensible so no real problem there, but it has triggered the spendaholic in me somewhat!

Have a lovely Saturday everyone.

PearlsPearl · 26/07/2025 16:16

Hello everyone. I'm still feeling miserable about the state of our finances.

I'm really not enjoying my job, it's been 5 months now and I am desperate to leave- it's just not worked out as I hoped and I accept that and just want to move on. But it was so hard to find a job that was flexible around my disability. I’m job hunting rapidly though because my mental health has been hard won and I don't want to keep having such upsetting days every time I work.

We absolutely cannot afford for me to not work now. So a new job is a priority.

PearlsPearl · 26/07/2025 16:17

@SockHop I'm sure all of the 'firsts' are exceptionately hard. Sending you and DD love.

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/07/2025 18:11

Sorry to hear that pearls. Can anything be changed in the job to make it better.

the firsts are hard sock. You are doing amazingly well
hope you fixed the cabinet

🤣🤣🤣
Ah thank you @March2027
Took it for her today and she loved it 😊

MaryGreenhill · 26/07/2025 18:33

Ah thank you @SockHop
My Mum loved the dress 😁
You have a lovely time out with your friend tonight 😊
@PearlsPearl so sorry you are not happy in your job ATM lovely . Is there anyone that you can talk to in your job ?
The trouble is when you dislike something but have to do it, the pressure feels impossible.
I hope you can feel happier soon 🤗
Well done on the Nsd @lifelongfrugaleer 😁
I joined you in a Nsd today too yay! ☺️

Mochi1fudge · 26/07/2025 19:51

Sorry to hear that @PearlsPearl hope it improves or something else turns up🤞

@SockHop ❤️ five months is nothing. Hope the flat pack is fixed.

Spendy day here:
£82.20 prescription sunglasses x 2 for me and DH. Got 40% off at Glasses Direct. DH needs varifocals hence the price.
£36 John Lewis 6 x school blouses. DD needs revere collars which supermarkets don't stock - this was the cheapest I could find, £45 in M&S!
£7.99 Amazon water shoes for DD
£46 extra case for the hold.

Alwayslearning25 · 26/07/2025 20:42

Hi,

Can I join?

I'm cutting down on a days work a week to spend more time with my kids in September. So could do with cutting down on frivolous spending.

How does it work, what do we post.

I just got £57 interest from a savings account this week so that's an unexpected bonus.

Only money I spent today was on a charity cake sale.

MaryGreenhill · 26/07/2025 20:53

That was a bargain re the sunglasses @Mochi1fudge
I tried to do Glasses direct but it defeated me so l went to Asda and Paid £90 for two prs of varifocals and l will be using them again .
Welcome @Alwayslearning25
Really speaking everyone posts what they like but mostly it's the spends out daily and the future plans and any bargains we found . At least that's what l do . Also we post things that might be upsetting us for a bit of kindness and understanding. It's a very supportive and lovely space in MN 😊

Alwayslearning25 · 26/07/2025 20:56

This week I ordered school uniform from Tesco's as it's 25% off with clubcard until tomorrow.

MaryGreenhill · 26/07/2025 21:19

That's excellent @Alwayslearning25 thank you 😊

Frugal25 · 26/07/2025 22:21

Welcome @Alwayslearning25 !
I've never heard of glasses direct. Will check them out. I put off buying glasses etc as they are hundreds normally in boots.
£18 here today in ridiculously overpriced sandwiches at a service station on the way home from holiday. I admit I cried on the owners shoulder as we left. I hate coming home. Absolutely fine now I'm back though.
Need to stop spending now that I'm back. :)

MaryGreenhill · 26/07/2025 22:38

Wow that's a terrible price for sarnies @Frugal25
Ah bless you being upset at coming home but it must be a wonderful place 🤗

Mochi1fudge · 26/07/2025 23:47

Glasses Direct nearly defeated me today @MaryGreenhill asked me to upload the prescriptions and also use an app to measure pupillary distance! All done though, the thought of being able to read in the sun spurred me on! Will report back on the timeliness and the fit.

Welcome @Alwayslearning25

Ah that sounds a lovely place @Frugal25 pleased you are okay now you are home.

Vinorosso74 · 27/07/2025 08:52

We were away for 5 days so that was quite spendy, although budgeted for. The hotel had an amazing breakfast buffet which we took advantage of so weren't particularly hungry during the day which saved a few euros.
@Frugal25 that is a crazy price for sandwiches! I despaired of the overpriced food at the airport last weekend. We spent about £35 in Leon which was about half the price of some of the other places.
Hoping for a couple of much less spendy couple of weeks.
Good news is I'm getting my credit card balance down!
