Making a new thread!

Please check in regular posters and welcome new people.

This is a super friendly thread to contribute to. We are all wanting to be as efficient as possible re spending but all have different budgets and priorities. No judgement here.

Oh - we've some frozen Pizza Express pizza in for dinner but I'll probably buy a few toppings to make them more interesting, so that'll be a few quid. That's definitely it!

Mochi1fudge · 05/07/2025 07:08

Some great advice on here, thank you 🌺 🙏 have had a busy week but have been reading along.

Yesterday I did an online delivery with Asda as I didn't have time to go out. It's sometimes a bit more but when I went to pay I had £30 goodwill vouchers! No idea why so I spent them quick! Was £89 but only cost £59. No other spends.

This week has been really low spend which I am pleased abour. Today is gym class and visit to DM.

SockHop · 05/07/2025 08:24

Morning everyone. Thanks so much for the lovely comments re DHs credit card.

@PearlsPearl sorry you’re having tough time. It’s amazing how easy it is to sink into bad habits again. You’re going great for just talking about and acknowledge it. 50 months sounds like a long time but it will come and it will be so worth it. You’ve been given some good advice (which I think a lot of us reading will also benefit from. I know a lot of it applies to me!). I hope you start to feel better soon.

I’m having my own mini blip (sound like a few of us are) with wanting to do some mindless spending too. I’ve really enjoyed building my pots up - but having to spend from some of them recently has triggered something in me - I guess the same ‘all or nothing’ reaction which I know I have with food too, like @BigSkies2022 mentioned. My other trigger is definitely dd getting low and upset - which understandably happens quite frequently at the moment. I just want to fix her and throwing money at it is often the easiest way. It’s teaching her bad habits though as well as not being great for keeping myself on track. I need to make that list of free and low costs treats to do instead.

My current “surprised by life” cost is definitely ddog. I’ve been lucky so far as different friends have offered to have him at theirs most of the days I’ve been working - so I’ve only had to pay for walkers a few times. But I keep on forgetting to factor in boarding costs if I have an evening out (and to a lesser extent for times I’ve gone away). He does have his own pot - I just need to make sure I’m replenishing it in my monthly budget as it’s getting used a lot more frequently than I thought it would…

Yesterday was a NSD. Today won’t be as it’s dd summer fair. Her last one at primary. Dd has a spending limit of £20 and Im not planning on buying anything so hopefully we will stick to that there. Then I need to buy a birthday card as dd has a party tomorrow. Usually I’d just go to our local ‘naice’ gift shop which is a 5 minute walk away if that, but cards there are expensive so I’ll walk up to our local Flying Tiger whilst dd is at drama later this afternoon instead and stock up on cheap and cheerful cards from there. I’ll need quite a few over the next few weeks anyway.

ememem84 · 05/07/2025 10:04

Fell off again. It’s been manic here.

payday since last update. Hoorah. Credit card paid off as much as I could (left £500 on it as if I’d paid everything it would have left me short).

returned a bunch of stuff to next this week - so refunds will hit cc over the next few days.

it was 33 degrees here on Monday (oooof)

accepted a quote for new garage door (£1200) need to see when they can fit it!

DH in London on Thursday - he had lunch at claridges and took part in a panel discussion there for work.

and last night I was ds’ plus one at the islands scouting awards. He got his chief scout bronze award. And will be moving from beavers to cubs in September. Proud mum moment.

my regular saver matures on Tuesday so I’ll use some of that to clear the remainder of my credit card and then the rest will probably get paid into my pension pot.

MaryGreenhill · 05/07/2025 11:49

Good morning everyone 😊

chimichangaz · 05/07/2025 14:01

Yesterday was £35 on a night out and £28.50 Amazon on household stuff. NSD planned for today and hopefully a LSD tomorrow.

SockHop · 05/07/2025 15:03

We've been to the school fete and kept in budget (£10 on raffle tickets and £10 on games etc). Dd wasn't really feeling it so we didn't stay that long. We're going to have a lazy afternoon now.
I found a few birthday cards in my cupboard as well as a pack of long forgotten thank you cards, so that's saved me a trip to the shops and over £10 which is pleasing.

Pigtailsandall · 05/07/2025 15:28

£18 for dc haircut, and £11 for a v&a exhibition later this year for me. We also stopped by a cafe on way to haircut so £4.80 for a coffee and babychino.

I have ordered 3 dresses from john lewis. I got rid of almost all my summer dresses and I'd love a lightweight cotton/linen one. Hoping one of them will fit and be nice, but will count the cost once I know what to keep.

3 months of Disney+ for free though with Tesco points, and all my work expected reimbursed so that's great.

Frugal25 · 05/07/2025 16:44

Love finding things you need but already have @SockHop . I did the same yesterday, went to buy a friend's DD a card but found one from last year that I hadn't posted. I did do a little happy dance. Didn't even have to write it.

NSD here. I was a bit cheeky. When OH was doing a shop, I chucked in a deodorant refill that I needed..... He paid ... Ahem.
Moving on. Had a mooch round the shops but I didn't look. If I don't look I'm not tempted.

northender · 05/07/2025 16:57

Got back to Plymouth from France on Thursday having had the best time. A couple of days with dh's family and then the drive home tonight. Ds has joined us here so it's been good to have a bit of time with him too.
So, the holiday has come in on budget and was worth every penny. But now need to review our budget for the rest of the year to make sure all the pots are looking good & adjust some as needed.
We're planning a farewell get together for dd before she heads off to Germany in September so need to start planning and budgeting for that now. We brought 2 big boxes of wine back from France for that & fizz for Christmas.
Both back to work on Monday so tomorrow will be getting ready for that and meal planning & grocery shopping.
Just to add into the mix, we accepted an offer for mum & dad's house on Friday so are now hunting in earnest for a bungalow. Good news!

MaryGreenhill · 05/07/2025 17:16

Glad you had a lovely time @northender 😁👍

Mochi1fudge · 05/07/2025 20:17

Asda was £55 slightly less than I thought with a missing item
Lidl £45
Will need a small top up shop by mid week.
Haven't spent anything else today 👍

SunnieShine · 05/07/2025 20:21

NSD for me. Will see how long I can keep it up 😀

SockHop · 05/07/2025 22:32

Yes it’s definitely pleasing isn’t it @Frugal25. And very annoying when it happens the other way round and you end up finding you already owned something you’ve just bought.

I added another £4 to today’s total as I’d run out of kitchen towels and also needed a few extra bits for dds dinner.

Tomorrow is going to be a NSD…

Frugal25 · 06/07/2025 13:36

A chilled day here. Went to the park for DD and then OH treated us to lunch at the cafe.
NSD for me and sold another item on vinted so that's £5.

Mochi1fudge · 06/07/2025 15:38

£65.70 meal for three of us as it's our anniversary.
£12.78 Shein for 4 rechargeable fans to take on holiday (looks like it's warm again this week at home too)
£5.68 Amazon for hair colour

Meals planned this week:
Katsu chicken stir fry and noodles
Chicken Tikka curry and rice
Sausages and mash in giant Yorkshire puddings with mash and veg. That's planned for Friday as DH off work but it's forecast to be 28° so may put the sausages on the BBQ!

Rainbow1901 · 06/07/2025 16:47

Don't think I've had many NSDs this week. Seems to have been something everyday but not huge amounts - won't be today either as I'm off out with a friend this evening!! There's always next week!!🙄

MaryGreenhill · 06/07/2025 18:40

Takeaway tonight £40
Watched the F1 brilliant result .
Hope everyone is ok 🙏
Happy Anniversary to you both @Mochi😊❤️🍾🔔🥂💒💍💐

pistachiosanscream · 06/07/2025 22:42

Hi all, just checking back in again. Had a very intense work trip abroad so couldn’t keep up with the thread but will catch up tomorrow. I will also do my expenses and see how much of the costs I can get back.

March2027 · 07/07/2025 06:41

Just a food shop today

ememem84 · 07/07/2025 06:51

£56 yesterday at coop on a shop for the week. I audited the cupboards and worked out we have enough stuff to not need food until Saturday.

today I’m getting a pedicure.

SockHop · 07/07/2025 07:51

Small spend yesterday of £9 on food. But I was able to remove £5 of items from my Sainsbury’s order due on Thursday because of it.

Today should be a NSD. I’ve not had enough of those recently! Although I’m not spending a huge amount I’m very conscious that the summer holidays are coming up and it’s harder to have NSDs with Dd at home - especially if trying to limit screen time so I need to try and get as many as I can in now.
