Morning all. Saturday turned out not to be a NSD after all as I succumbed to a bottle of wine and snacks on Saturday night. Yesterday however, WAS a NSD and I counted up coins from a money box I’d forgotten about and there was £27 in there in £1/£2, 50p and 20p. That’s gone into my ‘household slush fund’ (window cleaner etc) and the remaining coins will go to the Coinstar machine this week.

I also spent AGES putting some stuff on Vinted and eBay and overnight have sold two items.

I also updated my finances so YNAB is up to date and I know what I have left in various categories. Oh and I checked tyre prices as I need three after my MOT and found them for £64 instead of the £120 the garage quoted me…..

Meeting someone for coffee today, hoping for a LSD. Planning to sort out and declutter my office later on.

Frugal25 · 07/07/2025 12:51

A NSD here. Well, I spent £43 in Holland and Barrett on hair dye and vitamin pills for family but that's on a card that's already funded from wages so I've already "lost" it anyway so not counting it again.
And that deodorant refill I snuck into OH shopping trolley. Well karma hit didn't it. It's the wrong brand. I had that brand, chucked it out on Friday, as I use another one now. Tempted to dig through the stinky bin to retrieve the shell and shove through dishwasher so I don't have to get yet another refill.

needastrongoneagain · 07/07/2025 14:42

Afternoon.

£12 spent over the weekend. Pleased with that.

Today has been the bi-weekly veg box delivery (mainly summer fruit which is a bit of an indulgence but we all love it) and an Ocado delivery later.

Pea and ham soup with some crusty bread rolls for dinner. There doesn't look to be loads now I've made it so some rather random duck spring rolls have been extracted from the freezer and defrosted too. Saves spending!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather 😁

Don’t use cointstar they take a commission. Use them in the self checkout and pay yourself a note back next time you are at the bank

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/07/2025 17:56

I would so get the refil from the bin.

spendy today but an expense lots of it

Oops

chimichangaz · 07/07/2025 19:13

That was a good idea @lifelongfrugaleer but too late as I already used coinstar this afternoon. It saved me a fiver off my shopping so I only paid £4.
Also paid £7.70 for drinks and parking this morning, and then a cheeky little Next sale purchase of £22 this afternoon. Got some lovely Birkenstock type sandals and new slippers. Took a faulty facial wash back to Boots and bought some much needed hair products £15.

Good news this afternoon as my pension transfer edges closer, and the company have upheld my complaint and offered me a refund of their charges of £350 plus some compo.

Sold another couple of bits on Vinted too.

Is there an echo in here? 😉
A spendy day today Lidl £59.63, Home Bargains £25.71 and Iceland £12.00 - tomorrow won't be NSD either as I have a hairdressers appointment - on the practical side I have some things to return so will get some payments back also have a gift voucher to spend so will have a wander round the sales. Also had a few vinted sales last week so some small amounts to come in from them.

Hello! Spenny weekend for me, roughly £130 spent on taking daughter out one evening for a meal and drinks, the husband for lunch on sunday.
Monday popped to booths for picnic lunch and bought some meat. 1 chicken, mince and some chilli chicken for £15. So tesco shop was £55 today, which I'm happy with.
Dinner last night was a roast chicken, whilst I was roasting it i also roasted some new potatoes (there were just a handful left), which i will use for potato salad. I chucked some broccoli and sliced courgette in the roasting tin with lemon and garlic. At the end of roasting I added some cooked orzo and finished with parmesan. A perfect summer roast to use up last weeks veg. And plenty of chicken for another meal or 2.

In another tin I roasted some tomatoes, peppers, onions, carrots and garlic, which I wizzed up for pasta sauce. Tonight we had the sauce with added peas and sweetcorn.

Love it when I manage to make some good food from fridge scraps.

In non food related spends, I've just placed an order at h & m. £60 for £165 worth of clothes from the sale. Does anyone else prefer to buy a few items at once? Makes me feel like I've added a whole new wardrobe. I'm pretty boring with colours, always buy in the same colour palette so I know everything new will work with my old stuff too.

Gosh, I'll shut up now.

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/07/2025 05:45

No need to shut up.

if I see a few I buy it.

in my defence I was on the train last night and it didn’t tell
me it has posted

ememem84 · 08/07/2025 06:40

Spends yesterday £56 pedicure. I usually get one a summer.

returned a pair of sandals to next yeaterday. The straps werent long enough to go round my ankles and also do up. Annoying.

whilst there I had a swish through the sale. I found the gold metallic ankle cowboy boots I’ve been lusting after for a while. In the sale. In my size.

exchanged faulty sandals for boots. Win.

SockHop · 08/07/2025 07:19

Yesterday was a NSD.
…today won’t be!

I’m having my hair cut which is £65. Not had one in a while so all good. I also won £75 on premium bonds this month and the money conveniently appeared in my account this morning. (I’m also booked in for a massage next Tuesday which will mainly be paid for out of a £50 gift voucher I was given for my birthday, but I’ll have to pay £10 myself - so that is where the rest of my winnings will go. I’m taking them as a self-care fund this month!)

We have an appointment at the school uniform fitters to buy dd’s secondary school uniform this afternoon. I think it’ll be £110 to get all of the branded items (including 4 compulsory style shirts) which actually isn’t too bad compared to some other local schools. Good news is though that the school happen to be having a 2nd hand uniform sale this afternoon so we will head there first and see what we can pick up cheaper.

I had a few sets of keys cut last week, but the double lock ones don’t work properly. Will take those back this morning and if he can’t fix them I’ll get £60 back.

I like the sound of the boots @ememem84

Have a lovely day everyone.

ememem84 · 08/07/2025 08:00

Oh god school uniform. Cripples us each year.

At least now though they’ve relented and we only have to have one branded item. So for the dc it’ll be jumpers/cardigans and pe jackets.

ds will wear plain polos. Dd open neck shirts.

dd is currently having to wear shorts under her summer dress as it’s becoming short on her. I am not buying new now because she will grow over the summer. Same as shoes. I’ve had to glue the straps on her shoes.

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/07/2025 08:49

It’s too late to be buying for this year.
the branded stuff is ££££ here too but dds lasted her the whole 5 years. I had to replace 1 blazer & 1 skirt so not bad after all

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/07/2025 08:49

Photo of boots please em?

chimichangaz · 08/07/2025 09:43

Loving your cooking creations @Seaside3 - I too love it when you make a good meal out of fridge leftovers.

@ememem84 I think I saw those boots when I was in Next yesterday- a woman picked them up and they caught my eye!! Loved the look of them but I knew there was little chance of me wearing them, sadly. I was so happy when I found the sandals I bought yesterday- lovely leopard print and in my size - and more comfy than the £34 pair I’d been considering. Have tried to add a pic in case anyone interested.

@SockHop investing in self care is a good decision!!

Glad I’m well out of the school uniform years, although ours weren’t too bad and I shared the cost with DS’ dad.

Significant Summer Saving, significantly less spending, super (non) splurging. Frugal folk continue being frugal here. All welcome.
Seaside3 · 08/07/2025 09:51

Thanks @chimichangaz

@ememem84 I have gold cowboy boots. Wear them as often as possible and everyone loves them. I have an ankle injury which means my foot sweets and i find heels or strappy shoes look ugly. So boots are my saviour as I love love love shoes.

Hoping for a nsd today folks, first in a week... wish me luck.
