Refugees

Am I wrong to feel the people of this country are using the "Cost of Living" narrative to justify not helping migrants and refugees who seek refuge for themselves? Neglecting our British values, passing the buck to Rwanda and European countries. The attitude towards those fleeing war zones and risking everything to come to this country on harsh waters is outrageous!

I was in the corner shop today and over heard a couple of women making digs about foreigners. To make unjustified claims such as "it makes us unsafe", "we don't have jobs" or my personal favourite - "they don't integrate into society." What on earth has happened to our British values? To make others feel welcome and to help others in need of help!

Every human has a right to safety, affordable housing, food, water, education and a healthcare system. Those are all things our wonderful country can provide and quite frankly has a moral obligation to provide for those coming from other parts of the world that aren't as fortunate as us.

I think we are all trying to argue and rationalise with an OP who is clearly not intellectually capable of this.

soupfiend · 04/02/2024 09:02

There isnt a lack of housing in this country, there is a lack of affordable housing.

We have space, plenty.

So you do have space.......

@InayaWoo

You just want to argue with people don't you? Nice and warm in your 4 bedroom house feeling all smug.

No I don’t. I’m sick of turning on the news to see those in need turned away and treated like dirt!

Plenty of single people in the U.K that can take refugees into a spare room.

When you turn on the TV the people you watch have much less

PaulCostinRIP · 04/02/2024 09:07

How would you like to address the problem of men arriving here in dinghies who have ditched their ID's before arriving here so we don't know their ages or if they have criminal backgrounds and are from a culture that does not recognise an age of consent or rape as being a crime?

Think as you please, my opinion differs form yours so you make ridiculous comments.

Funny how you didn't reply to my other post about British born and bred not having safe adequate housing etc.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 04/02/2024 09:08

You and your partner share one room, 2 kids share one room, 2 more kids share another. Bam! You have a spare room now.

You’re casting aspersions. They arrive for help and we should help them. We shouldn’t entertain the delusions of some British people who incredibly biased.

Think of your home as a metaphor for the UK, OP. You think it's "rammed". Others would argue that your children could share a room to make space for a refugee. A room in your busy house would be a real luxury for a young man arriving with literally nothing. Think about it.

A house is different from a country, Indian has a billion! China has a billion! We have less than 70 million and we could help others .

How utterly naive of you, we can't provide this for our own citizens let alone thousands of others.

What about the ones already here who live in cramped overcrowded homes?
The ones who work but still need to go to food banks because they don't get paid enough.

Spectre8 · 04/02/2024 09:13

And in those countries majority of them don't live in a 4bed house.they live onto of each other or multiple people in one room anyway you agreed to my post where I said you were delusional so I'll leave you to it

I’m talking about refugees. Britons have access to the help they need because they’re citizens.

I said a metaphor....
I often wonder why Saudi Arabia doesn't take more, it's such a huge, wealthy nation. Or Dubai with all those empty hotel rooms.
