Refugees

Am I wrong to feel the people of this country are using the "Cost of Living" narrative to justify not helping migrants and refugees who seek refuge for themselves? Neglecting our British values, passing the buck to Rwanda and European countries. The attitude towards those fleeing war zones and risking everything to come to this country on harsh waters is outrageous!

I was in the corner shop today and over heard a couple of women making digs about foreigners. To make unjustified claims such as "it makes us unsafe", "we don't have jobs" or my personal favourite - "they don't integrate into society." What on earth has happened to our British values? To make others feel welcome and to help others in need of help!

Every human has a right to safety, affordable housing, food, water, education and a healthcare system. Those are all things our wonderful country can provide and quite frankly has a moral obligation to provide for those coming from other parts of the world that aren't as fortunate as us.

NObody will ever answer this question. I've tried to ask it many times of many people. Why do people from non-Western countries desperately try to move to Western countries? It can't be wealth, as some of the wealthiest countries are in the MIddle East and Asia.

Why does it matter?

Come on, OP - I've been waiting ages for you to link information about the supportive, inclusive and liberal refugee policies of Saudi Arabia and Dubai......

LadyJaneEarlGreyTea · 04/02/2024 10:33

What’s stopping them?

That’s not an answer to my question.

why would give away what we as a family has earned and built? I said I would “help” not give away anything.

You want people to give away their spare rooms? You want money taken from a lot of budgets and ploughed into one huge budget to ensure everyone (Not English people) get everything they want and need. I don’t actually know if you are left or right. You are doing the right a massive favour though!!

@marshmallowburn - it's a liberal democracy and very tolerant of others' values.

@hattie43 You're right, the majority of Muslims do not integrate. Many dislike English people. I strongly advice everyone to go andnlook at Sparkbrook/sparkhill in Birmingham. It's only for Muslim residents. I had to work there for a few months, and it was shocking how I was treated by muslim people. They were rude to me, and stared at me tutting. My Muslim Coworker explained it was because of my sleeveless top and skirts, on a hot summer day. I cannot believe that they come here, and expect us to dress like them?! I left that job. It was very specialised and they struggled getting someone to fill it.

marshmallowburn · 04/02/2024 10:35

Totally

Bululu · 04/02/2024 10:35

Tell us which Europeans countries? I know communities in Spain, France and Italy are very unhappy with this situation. Germany not sure but it is a country that does not interest me so never visit or have people there.

Do you think we do not know? 🤣🤣🤣

She certainly is. That's why the Far Right has been growing in Europe. It's frightening.

Refugee crisis: Why aren't Gulf states taking them in? | CNN

While Europe and other nations take in hundreds of thousands of refugees, Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have not offered settlement plans.

Why not expand your idea that everyone should have a refugee in there Spare room to children are expected to double up , you should turn your living room / office / dining room / garage any space you have into a living space for a refugee.

You won't compromise your living arrangement but expect others to .

We have 6 living in our 3 bed so you seem very under occupied.

You want people to open their doors and disrupt their lives but oh no you can't make room .

The far right is growing but Muslims have 10 times the number of babies and are voting on immense numbers in EU countries for equality and rights!

Yep. I have no idea what Angela Merkel was thinking. A million people!! They could have all been the nicest people in the world, bbut it is too much too fast. The infrastructure, the assimilation. It was never going to cope. Madness.

The far right has being growing because our useless governments are doing nothing to stop this tide of those from another culture .
There's a difference between absorbing people and being swamped by them .
It's fear that increases the far right vote .

The welfare state, NHS and free education are incompatible with mass immigration. We have finite resources and they simply cannot stretch to fund housing, dentistry, etc for people who haven’t contributed to the system. Of course the UK is the preferred destination for thousands of economic immigrants. As evidenced by Ezedi, even with a criminal conviction the chances of you being returned to your home country are nonexistent.
